Back when music was an escape from the hell in your life. Nowadays they seek to bring more hell into your life.
💯👍
Yup, that's what became of the "music industry" lol
Well put!
True
That's the great Jimmy Beaumont on vocals and the great Janet Vogel on soprano. The great days of vocalists long past.
That poor lady didn't get to enjoy life and fame She committed suicide thanks to her abusive husband
@@michelecabrol2149 I was just reading about that. How sad that really is. She was already battling depression, but to have a husband like that is just worse than awful!
I used to play pool with Jimmy at at bar in McKeesport pa where we're from.
@@mattkudla2510 Sweet
@@michelecabrol2149 Never heard that story. The one I heard for years, it was breast cancer.
This era of music had no rage , no political stance, no edge just pure music and talent displayed.
Every woman that I've been in a relationship heard this song and loved it, My nephew hated Put Your Head On My Shoulder, his girlfriend whom wasn't even thought of came over. My Nephew said she would not like the song, she was a head banger. She came over and I placed the 45 record on the turntable, She moved the coffee table asking to dance with me to the song. My nephew's jaw dropped. She asked me to play it again and danced again with me, nothing between us, she just loved the song!!! These songs sometimes could tell the person you are seeing words you can't think of. My nephew had to pay me the $50.00 dollars he bet on!!!
It's pure gold...most people wouldn't realize that. I'm glad you did.........
One of the greatest doo-wop songs of all-time.
Thank You for doing this one,,,you got a winner, a 1950's, that touches the very heart and soul of us older folks, this is why this 70 year old man subscribed to you.
For another favorite of mine that was released the same year (1959) you might like to try The Flamingos - "I Only Have Eyes For You" 🦩😍 It's dreamy.
Also done by The Platters
I was a sophomore in HS in 1959, harmonizing in the boy's room and failing algebra. The story with what you said about the sound's perfection is that before you got into a recording studio you had to practice your vocals until the song was thoroughly polished -- no missed notes, no coming in on the wrong note, breath control, striving for a good harmonic blend, being in sync with one another and focusing on your voice. It wasn't the anti-music rap crap you have today. It was REAL music and hitting the right notes. If you were a singer you were your own musical instrument.
The Skyliners were one of the very best doo-wop groups of the era, 1954-64. There was nothing cheap about them. They had great harmony and a great lead singer. The songs back then were love songs; found love or lost love. Teenagers craved REAL SONGS. But not anymore. Well, you can have it and good luck. I'm glad I lived it and grew up with the sweetness of melody and harmony as the soundtrack of my youth. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
If you like this then try Little Anthony and the Imperials "Tears on my pillow". Best wishes from an old wrinkly!
Also "Goin' Out of My Head", "Hurts So Bad" and "Take Me Back"
@@vcole7611 And Two People In the World.
@@TG-ix9id The flip of tears on my pillow
"I think I'm going out of my head" by Little Anthony is an awesome song.
The Skyliners had a great sound.Their harmonies were fantastic.
Many groups in the DooWop era and the 60s really could sing.Acapella or with minium instrumentals was the way it was then.
Chod, you are a treasure! For a young man like you to show such respect to the artists from two generations ago really shows your class! No matter what you think of the individual songs the artists and groups put out you have to remember they did not have any of the modern tools that today's artists have. Whatever else you think you have to acknowledge that these people had TALENT! I can see the others who have commented already have left you more suggestions so I won't pile on, I will just say thank you - respect!!
Your beautiful tribute to the late, great Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners is very much appreciated.
I always liked this song I was about 10 when it came out, just after Transistor Radios.
This is my favorite doo-wop oldies of all time. I teared up hearing this after not hearing it for so long
Only Jack Taylor (bass vocalist and guitar player) stands as the only original as of January 1st, 2021. Janet Vogel (Soprano), Jimmy Beaumont (Lead Tenor), Wally Lester (Tenor), and Joe Verscharen (Baritone) have all now passed away.
I remember this song from the soundtrack of the 1973 classic American Graffiti. That was a great movie! Here's three songs about losing someone - Oh Girl by The Chi-Lites, The Worst That Could Happen by Brooklyn Bridge and Silhouettes On the Shade by The Rays.
That song was just 14 years old when American Grafifti came out.
Along the same vein as the Skyliners with great vocals....The Walker Brothers - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore, The Brooklyn Bridge - The Worst That Could Happen, The Happenings - See You In September and Jay and the Americans - Waling In the Rain. These are classics of American Rock and Roll with great talent shining through. Enjoy!
Tremeloes Silence is golden.
I agree with Dave O'Farrell, Little Anthony and the Imperials are terrific. My favorite of their's is Going Out of My Head. And for great vocals, you need to hear the song Over You by Gary Puckett and the Union Gap.
"Going Out of my Head" Little Anthony and the Imperials, "Can't Take my Eyes Off You" Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons.
This song came out the year I was born -1959. Here we are, 60 plus years later and still groovin to this. It nice to see young folks appreciate the music of my day. Thank you WILBURN REACTIONS for your respect for good music, no matter when or where it came from.
Spring of '59-------------I was in late 7th grade-----------& this classic is for all-time. ------------------------MJL 74 y/o
Wow. check out Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by The Platters
Yes. I remember that song being used for the movie Always.
Also The Great Pretender and Only You
the Music Artistry in these old songs are off the chain. I LOVE those String Arrangements.
the DooWop era is way too often overlooked any more. such a shame. beautiful music....melody, harmony...great vocal arrangements. IT was just a tad before my time, but i have older siblings so i grew up listening to this stuff...but it would have been great to see these young guys n girls standing on the street corners, harmonizing. check out The Dubs, The Harptones, The Earls, The CLassics, The Drifters, Coasters. Platters, Little ANthony and the imperials, dion and the belmonts...and many more...
The 50's and 60's music was the best, pure voice and can hear the words. 👍 Thanks.
It’s a beautifully composed song that was beautifully arranged with strings and percussion and sung beautifully by the excellent lead singer and his backup singers and then topped off by the pure soprano. It’s a romantic song about lost love, from a time when love wasn’t confused with thrilling sex or lust.
It’s great to hear your appreciation of these great singers, groups and songs. You hit on a lot of great points. Another great one by them is This I Swear.
The 17 y/o Jimmy Beaumont, & 16 y/o Janet Vogel, & the other 3 guys. 1959, spring, I so remember this ! --------Recorded in NYC, with Lenny Martin's orchestra, a 24 piece orchestra. ------------MJL, 75 y/o
I love all of these old songs, I grew up with the music of the 50 and 60's.
The 50s style Doo-Whop, was practiced in the streets. Long before television became a thing. A means to occupy many people’s time away. Groups were made famous from the alleyways to the stage. There were no special audio equipment or advanced sound studios, the harmonies were genuinely real. Check out black Doo-Whop artists. They are amazing.
Exactly - especially in cities like Pittsburgh and Philly
Thank you. I used to wear this record out.
If you ever see the '73 classic " American Graffiti" , there is one tender & sweet moment in the film, with this classic playing in the background. A perfect song. --------------------MJL< 76 y/o
I was a toddler when this came out. I remember this song well, it got lots of airplay. This song is a classic 50s sound. If you want good music the 50s-70s is where its at.
I was born 21 years after this song came out, and even I've been listenin to this since I was a kid.
This is classic ,beautiful music, should never be judged or misjudged
I had this melody on the tip of my tongue for literally years until one day i put it all together and looked it up. It was such a great moment to actually hear the song again. What a classic.
My first love was rock music, apparently head banging to Status Quo at the age of 3. Still, I got into heavy metal as I grew older. I still love it. But then I came to like 50's stuff, Doo Wop, Rock and Roll, Rockabilly. Most of my life I have enjoyed it despite being born many years after. Love the cars too.
Thank you young man for appreciating this beautiful music from my generation.
17 y/o Jimmy Beaumont, & 16 y/o Janet Vogel, lead the group in that Spring of '59. I was in 7th grade, 2nd semester, 12 y/o
Recorded in NYC, with a 24 piece orchestra, under the direction of Lenny Martin.
Jimmy Beaumont was 18 y/o---------Janet Vogel was 16 y/o ---------recorded in NYC with a 27 piece orchestra. I was 12 y/o in the spring of '59, when this masterpiece came out. ------MJL
Jimmy Beaumont is my dad, so I loved hearing your honest review, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on some of his other music.
Where Have They Gone and It Happened Today are a couple of my personal favorites!
What I love about this music not just the voices but strings. Someone mentioned the Platters. They have a lot of great songs. Also Johnny Mathis with "The Twelfth of Never" and "Chances Are". Another one is "Sea of Love" by Phil Phillips and The Twilights, which Robert Plant covered when he was in the Honey Drippers. Both versions are great.
The vocal phrasing sounds so much like saxophone lines. So unique. Art doesn't have to reflect life. The ugliness and turmoil of the sixties was fertile ground for artists to present an alternative to what was happening in the world at that time. Artists don't have to hold a mirror up to all the misery.
There was no "turmoil of the sixties" in 1959.
@@Steve52344 I was talking about 'art in general' and how some artists (in any time period) use the excuse that their creations are ALWAYS ugly, disturbing, dark...because those are the times we are living through.
@@allenvoice8092 They use the "excuse" that their creations are "always ugly"??? Huh? So, if art reflects reality, which is often "dark," the artist uses an "excuse" to reflect that truth? Good grief!
Your thoughts were enlightening on the video. A family member played the heck out of this record when the record ended he'd put it on again. Then he'd play " image of a girl" The Skyliners.
In my top 3 fave early love songs!
The other two are:
I Only Have Eyes For You - The Flamingos AND by Art Garfunkel
Since I Don’t Have You - Lenny Welch
IMO, The Flamingo’s is the best version.
@@bobconklin7159 That’s really hard for me since I grew up on the Flamingos, but I was in HS when Art’s came out 🤷🏻♀️
@@angier5775 we must be about the same age. I remember when Art G recorded it however, I’m a Doo Wop guy.
Good suggestions but Lenny Welch is Since I Fell for You
@@dunismith3045 Sah he only had one other minor hit with his version of "Ebb Tide".
Unbelievably beautiful song! This is as good as it gets
Oh yea, here we go! Classic Doo Wop!! Saw them a couple of years ago, crows went nuts!!
You hit the mark !!!!!!!! This piece is fabulous and forever.
Wilburn, your comments about this song is everything that I would of wanted to say and I really like that you didn't stop this song till it was done and then gave it your comments. Jimmy Beaumont and the Skyliners were amazing and her we have another great song from the past. 😊👍👍
Imma boomer & this song is several years before my time but, imo, is straight 🔥. Original Spanish-language version of "La Bamba" & this song were made around 1957. 1957, I see u!
One of my all time favorites. I'll be 74 in February and you nailed the description on the head. Because of your description and reactions you got a thumbs up and a subscription from me. Thanks
What neighborhood did your dad grow up in Pgh.👍
the mid 1950s. Absolutely wonderful music. Same time as Nat King Cole was big on the music scene.
Sir ---------in those days, you needed an arranger ------possibly an orchestra , a producer & studio engineer. Most recordings were on 4-track mixers, & they were all done on 2" tape, which captured sound so much more fully than the computer ever will. There is depth to the sound .---------and yes, the record companies spent millions, developing talent. This group were all 17 y/o, except for janet Vogel, who was all of 16 y/o. ---------Lead vocal, Jimmy Beaumont , the Skyliners were from Pittsburg, PA.
You have to hear the group called The tymes songs So much in love and Somewhere.
Wilburn ----Listen to their classic song " This I Swear " a great song for sure its from 1959
More 50's Groups:
McGuire Sisters: Sincerely
Penguins: Earth Angel
Platters: Only You, The Great Pretender
Everly Brothers: All I Have to Do is Dream
Dell-Vikings: Come Go With Me
Crests: 16 Candles
I wish Jimmy Beaumont (lead singer) & Joe Rock (lyricist & manager) were alive to hear their art being appreciated nowadays. They were a phenomenal group.
Great reaction Wilbur, just Love this song.🎼🎹👍😎
I hope a lot of the pause ever 10 seconds reactors were listening. The world didn't end because you did not pause the video like they would have you believe, thank you.
You said it. Even though I'm now closing in on 42, I've still yet to truly fall in love with someone. And if that time ever comes (likely not... Lol), this would definitely be THE song that I would personally choose to play on our wedding day over any other.
Wilburn.....everything you said.......and no auto-tune.
This was music from the Great Doo Wop Generation when people sang from the heart
I lived in Oklahoma City, Ok. back in the late 50's and early 60's. Listened to phenomenal groups like the Skyliners on radio KOMA 1520 AM. Thanks for the review, it brought back good memories during that time!
I am 75 this came out when I was 12. Music back then was great 😃
I was preschool.
But my older siblings would listen to it.
when you start more into the 50's anything from the platters {my prayer especially} little richard rip it up...j.p richardson {the big bopper white lightening} buddy holly
the browns... so many great groups and singers from the very early days of rock and pop
I was in Jr High at a sock hop slow danceing in 1960
In Northern Calif … sweet sounds
Buck Ram was their manager, the group along with Buck wrote this song!!!! This is wonderful music!!!
Timeless perfection. Simply beautiful music .
I think the Disco and Heavy Metal Eras made so much money that the record companies went down those roads. It became more about sound than talent.
Amen, brother. You nailed it. The really high voice at the end was the female singer, Janet Vogel.
I used to love skating to this song. We used to have tent skating rinkes.
Great reaction, Great songs are great songs and are timeless and this is a great example of it.
What else can you say? Music with words!!!
Give "On Broadway" by the Drifters a try!
I was a young teenager when this song came out I believe in 1959. What an honor it was to listen to this kind of doo-wop music at the beginning of rock and roll. Don't get me wrong there were plenty of bad songs also but the gems like this one were what kept us listening to the radio. So many great songs and artists came out of this era, I don't know if it will ever happen again. I believe "the day the music died" was the day big business took it over and the artists looks became more important than the music.
You said all there is to say Chod! your comments were perfection👍
Fleetwoods: "Mr. Blue", "Come Softly"
Glad you enjoyed it Wilburn. We got plenty more where that came from. Try Shrine of St. Cecelia by the Harptones for starters.
This is your answer we had sincerity back then it's something that the young kids don't have now what's in you comes out in many ways including music if it's not in you it won't come out you would fit in because I sent you have sincerity I will tell them how to get it turn to the light
I was 12 years old when this song came out on I’m 75 years old now and I still love this music thanks for posting!
The late Jimmy Beaumont had a outstanding voice and the session studio musicians were excellent reading and playing their designated musical arrangement to perfection, true professionals.
The FLAMINGOS ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU
Lovely song. You ate so correct about our times. We need more love! 💕
Romantic times 50's and 60's❤
They're from Pittsburgh.
Great track/reaction brother👏🏼 I didn’t even realize you did this song fantastic..Jimmy Beaumont was an amazing vocalist and as great as this song is I’ve always thought “this I swear” by the them was even better..if you get some time one day to react to it I’d appreciate it i’m curious to hear what your thoughts would be on that especially your first reaction..thank you and keep up the good work my friend channel sounds great👍🏼🙏🏼
Pure talent. Check out "Since I fell for you" by Lenny Welch. Beautiful
In the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's, you had to be perfect or you wouldn't make it, they've lowered standards like they usually do so more people can make it in the entertainment business, that's usually how it works in all things. In many ways, they've made it too easy then technology entered.
SIR---------------17 Y/O JIMMY BEAUMONT------------16 Y/O JANET VOGEL HITTING THOSE " HIGH C'S " -----------------SPRING OF '59, I WAS IN 7TH GRADE, 2ND SEMESTER, & THIS WAS A SURE-FIRE SLOW DANCE NUMBER. -----------------------WolfSky9, 74 y/o
Sock hops, slow dancing.....I’d give anything to go back.
Nobody's Fault But Mine- Led Zeppelin
If you want to hear more perfection on singing from the same era, please check out "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" by the Platters....I guarantee you will be impressed........
One more keller vocal from days gone by, Hooked on a Feeling By B. J. Thomas. Killer vocals!
An early Phil Spector production. The orchestration was all him.
His voice is killer
