  • Thinking about a Tacoma?! In today's video, I discuss why I think (based off of what I've seen/know so far about the all-new Toyota Tacoma), why 2024 might just be the year to wait for! Let me know what you think in the comments section down below.
    Thank you to Toyota for hosting me at SEMA 2023 this year! The Tacoma line-up was quite impressive, and I was excited to be present at the show!

    If there is anything my 2016 gen 3 taught me, it is to wait for Toyota to dial it in. Traded the 16 in for a 21 in 21. I love how Toyota quickly responds to and resolves issues but I learned to have let the early adopters provide the data. Patience is key for enthusiasts on a budget. 😊

    Thank's for a great video Chloe! I'm glad Toyota has listened to it's customers and made trucks that have more of what enthusiast what in their trucks and the fact that they offer some aftermarket support direct from Toyota. I like the x runner concept and haven't understood why Toyota stopped the mini truck segment from their lineup! pretty much all manufactures stopped making street/mini trucks when the scene was still growing with the likes of fast and furious movies. I think the TRD sport should have been this x runner all along, even making a track AWD setup would be awesome.

      if toyota "listened to their customers" they would not have dropped the v6.

    • @manm4096
      @manm4096 Před 5 měsíci

      @@billw8476I agree that Toyota shouldn’t have dropped the V6. I don’t think the 4cyl turbo is gonna have the torque needed for climbing heavy terrain and the towing capacity is gonna suffer too. Toyota should’ve put the V6 in the TRD platforms and above trim levels, left the 4cyl as a optional engine. But the EPA keeps putting these ridiculous standards on new vehicles while trying to ban all ICE vehicles by mid 2030’s manufacturers are just doing what they’re forced to do! That’s why I’m glad to have bought my 2021 offroad out of my lease.

    I bought a 2023 TRD Pro a week ago because I don't want anything to do with a 4 cylinder engine. And a new model year is going to be full of bugs with all the changes. For the sake of the truck they should have put a small V8 in it with 300hp. But I understand they are bending over backwards to comply with the government mpg and emission requirements. Sucks for the consumer to not have an option. With a V8, a trans that shifts correctly, and some useable bed tie down points, the Tacoma would be the perfect truck.

    • @ScreamsPenguin
      @ScreamsPenguin Před 7 měsíci

      Why'd you buy a Tacoma with a V6 if a V8 is that important to you?

    • @donm2255
      @donm2255 Před 7 měsíci

      @@ScreamsPenguin The Tacoma fits in my garage. The Tundra no longer has a V8 option. Even a F150 only has one V8--and it is not the highest HP option. It's getting hard to find full size trucks with a V8. I can't buy what doesn't exist. I decided to replace my '00 Durango with a mid size truck and was disappointed that nothing in the category still had a V8. When I bought the Durango, most everything in that class had a V8 in it with a V6 being the cheap option if price was a concern. I hate this trend of more complicated smaller engines.

    I’m a lube tech at a Toyota dealer. I’m glad I bought my 2022 Tacoma when I started here. I wouldn’t buy a 2024 since they discontinued the 6 cylinder engine in the production models. I wish they still had leaf springs on more than just the base model. I don’t like hybrids either. The high voltage battery is a ticking time bomb in that when it fails, it costs so much to replace it that insurance usually totals the vehicle. If I DID buy a 4th gen, I’d Coyote swap it as soon as the warranty expired.

    This year I purchased my first brand new truck! A 2023 Lunar Rock double cab, 6 speed manual of course. The Taco loves off-roading with super low gear ratio with the manual and it’s probably the most reliable truck you can buy right now. But I’ve got my Toyota dealer trying to get me a Trail Hunter 😅 The way I see it, if I can have Toyota factory warranty all the upgrades I would do anyways and I don’t have to spend hours building it, that’s just more time I’m not worrying about break downs on my dime, and more time using my truck for work in the patch or getting out into that sweet Alberta / BC backcountry ⛰️
    But then many will say “ But sir that thing will break down immediately just like a Ford” Ya cool story man I just don’t think Toyota would put this turbo I4 in a Land Cruiser if it meant tarnishing, the reputation that it’s had for having legendary reliability, longevity and off-road cred…

    Cross-shopping all midsize trucks and some base 1/2 ton trucks for purchase at the end of 2024. The Tacoma will be at the top of my list. Ideally, I would like a 6’ bed with the hybrid engine, so probably a TRD Sport. I do like the the AWD system on the Limited, but I don’t like so much chrome. We tow a small camper and haul camping gear. Our camper only weighs 2900 lbs loaded, so tow capacity is not really an issue (5,000 lb tow capacity or greater is just fine). Payload is the more important number. The previous gen Taco was weak with real world payload. If payload has been addressed, it will come down to price. I have NEVER paid MSRP or above on any new vehicle, including a Toyota.

      If Ford and Chrysler(Fiat) have been doing it for a while successfully, Toyota will kill it. My dad has a JL Wrangler Rubicon 2.0T and the power comes on fast at the low RPM's and the vehicle moves effortlessly. Motors designed to handle turbos, especially at the low factory boost settings will be reliable.
      As an owner of the old "TRD" supercharged setup on a 4.0 V6 Tacoma, I have faith in these new engines lasting a while (200-300k easy as Ford and Chrysler have already done). The 465lb/ft of torque is a must especially when adding weight to the truck for these "overland" builds. I have around 380lb/ft torque (crank estimate for comparison) and it is just enough to easily keep up with traffic once you add over 500lbs of mods to the truck.

      @slowfiveoh4986 Based on physics. When you introduce a turbo, you are increasing the internal forces on the engine, and you are increasing the heat on the engine. The turbo runs incredibly hot, and the oil running through it can burn if you don't let it cool before before shutting off the engine. You are also introducing more fail points.

    2024s are nice looking but I’m not sure about losing the non-turbo charged V6.

    Toyota still needs to improve the the head space and leg space in the back. Plus, the seats need to be better for angling comfort. Also, Toyota needs to rustproof their structual body frame that is a problem for the past Tacomas.

      @MisterDogg it's so weird how many trucks have 4 cy turbos. I was actually going to get a single can chevy with a v8 ...... bwhahahaha, everything I saw available had 4 cy turbo in a full size truck. That's kinda un-American 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

    • @MisterDogg
      @MisterDogg Před 7 měsíci +1

      @richardbrown986 It is weird. Every manufacturer is trying to get more MPG's out of their trucks so I guess it sorta makes sense. Not sure if the gov is putting out new regulations ect. or if its just a trend? I don't know how they expect to get 200k plus miles without having the replace the turbo though... I need long term dependability.

    Access cab models (with doors) discontinued replaced by back to the past "extra cab" with no doors. And even that option does not extend to higher 4x4 trim levels (Sport or OR). Oh well. Maybe Toyota will come to their senses in 2025.

    I think they look great. Love the seat with suspension on it.
    I just hope the prices are t too crazy
    I am looking at the TRD pro if the price isn’t out of hand
    I am also wanting to see what the MPGs will be like with the hybrid in there.
    Thanks for the video.

  • @BigOsTaco

    I think it will hard for many to get one of these here are the reasons why
    1. Prices will be really high (I hope I am wrong here)
    2. Interest rates are really high. This is going to cause really large auto loan payments and a the auto insurance getting out of hand; it will really kill some sales
    3. I do t think there will be too much inventory on hand specially for the PRO causing limited inventory and therefor shooting prices thru the roof. I hope I am wrong here
    If the price is reasonable I am shooting for a TRD PRO.
    Here hoping for a decent priced without market adjustments or dealers being greedy. Un yeah that’s not going to happen. Lol. Wish we could buy them directly from Toyota instead of greedy dealers!!

    Anticipated, probably. Better than a 2023, highly unlikely. Give the gen4 a few years would be my advice. Paying more to provide R&D while your truck is waiting for parts is not my thing.

    Toyota has finally figured out how to charge for replacement seat shock absorbers!
    Seriously, the new Tacomas look good but with any total redesign, I'll wait a few years for Toyotas to work the bugs out....as they always do. But especially based on the mew Tundra plethora of issues....

    Electronic ebrake, don't get me wrong I love turbo it's fun but not for longevity. I own 2 turbocharged Subaru's 17 sti and 10 forester xt. And just picked up a 23 toco. I wanted NA to last me a life time
