Elvis Live August 3, 1969 Dinner Show

- This is Elvis' return to stage performances after 9 years absence, at The International, Las Vegas, 1969.
This audio is the earliest recording we have of Elvis' come back. It is the dinner show of August 3rd, 1969.
Elvis made his comeback 3 days earlier on July 31st.
Unlike later performances in this season, Elvis sounds refreshingly young and still nervous performing live here for the sixth time in front of an audience. He delivers all the songs with a real interest and edge. There is a sincerity and freshness here that is lost in his later performances, as he became more familiar and confident with his set and the Vegas audience.
Elvis never sounded better than his 1969 run at Vegas.
This recording, undoubtedly, proves this.
Enjoy.

How much joy has Elvis brought to the WORLD?!
Immense!
There are no words ❤❤❤
The unfortunate people that needed his help I am sure has opened the gates to heaven for this man. No one is perfect, his heart was.
I am 54 and just realized how amazing Elvis was. Now I'm binging. The band was top shelf and the singers even better. What a treat.
welcome to the fold. your life will never be the same.
Elvis had honed his voice into a fine instrument by this period, top of his game.
One thing I love about listening to Elvis is no matter how many times I hear him sing It always is as exciting as the first time I ever heard him.
Absolutely true
He sounds fantastic! It makes me feel so sad though. In 1969 Elvis was on top of the world, done with the movies he hated, back on stage where he wanted to be - he looked beautiful, he sounded great, what could possibly go wrong? It's the saddest story.....
It has been 44 years since Elvis has passed away and I'm still listening. I don't know any other entertainers that can say they have a fan base as loyal as Elvis fan base also the amount of new young people listening that makes him the king
These powerful passionate voice when his health in GOOD CONDITION
I am 46, born in Sept 1975. When he passed, I wasn't nearly old enough to even be aware of him. But when I turned 17, I became a DJ, and explored all types of music (my parents were in a band together so I'm sure that helped). Elvis is SUCH an influence on me, even in 2022. I'm going to Vegas the first week of April 2022 for a marketing conference, but you best believe I'm hitting up EVERY BIT of Elvis-ness while I'm there. Unfortunately, so many Elvis exhibits and museums have closed since my last visit in 2018, but I'm bound and determined to pay tribute to E while I'm in Vegas next month!
Elvis is a Real Thing!! I saw him perform in San Diego back in 1970 I was 14 Greatest show ever!! Love his music till this day. RIP Elvis you are still alive in my life.
Prevedi na hrvatski.
Those arrangements - My God!! Full orchestra, rythm section, The Imperials and Sweet Inspirations... and it all fits like crazy well!!
Just love these albums, I just wish they had filmed it, how amazing would that have been 😊
It’s criminal that all these early Vegas shows weren’t filmed, this is historic, our greatest entertainer at the height of his powers. This is better than than ttwis. just can’t believe someone didn’t make sure all these shows were filmed. This isn’t the Elvis of the seventies going through the motions. This is other worldly, such a shame there isn’t more video.
Criminal, indeed. Talk about dropping the ball! Some of *The King's* best performances were missed out on being recorded and preserved for future (and present) generations of Elvis fans thirsty for his phenomenal performances.

Youre so right…what a shame. What were they thinking !
Estoy de acuerdo, no entiendo porque no se grabaron, el Coronel tenía miedo de que no fuese un éxito la vuelta de Elvis. Es mi época favorita , Elvis en todos los sentidos ❤
No point, why film it if only to show it on tv, Elvis wanted people to pay to see him perform, hence why interviews were very rare.
Hence why he was so highly paid, he certainly didn't want at the time anyone filming it, and it ending up on cheap picture house showings.
It really was a case of you wanna see him then pay.
@@sopala3952Elvis would have gone crazy he wanted people to pay to see him, not have some cheap asses going to a cheap picture house and paying ten cents to see him on a big screen.
Its a money driven industry, very early shows were recorded purely for promotional purposes.
Later ones were because of the possibility then of releasing on video.
There's some rare home movie recordings that also weren't allowed, Elvis had his hench men out looking for anyone in the audience that had a cine camera.
You don't buy half a dozen caddys or Harvey's for your friends like the rest of us buy a round of drinks by letting people have something for free.
You give something for free infront of the media so everyone knows, no promotion when nobody knows .
It's all done for money, if people aren't paying they aren't earning..
The reason he never gave a free show in the army was for a similar reason, he'd do the show for free the military would film it and automatically own the copyright being government.
Therefore they'd be able to show it so people could see him but not pay him.
So no deal, I'll do my time, uncle sam ain't getting anything from me for free, i didn't choose to join, i had no god damn choice..
This may be his best live concert & I have heard them all. In the Ghetto & Suspicious Minds are outstanding. The band & chorus are not overkilling his vocals like during his later concerts. The fact this was not recorded is one of the greatest musical tragedies ever. His Pearl Harbor Performance as well can be included in this. Live in Hawaii got him at the beginning of the end. Long live the G.O.A.T ( Greatest Of All Time) and The King!👍🏻🙏🏻💗
You got that right. It is beyond my comprehension that Parker didn't record that '61 Pearl Harbor concert to raise funds and bring awareness to needing the monument built. Elvis did it and the money started pouring in with a Grant also from President Kennedy. That concert is so phenomenal...and not recorded. And these Vegas shows of '69 were out of this world brilliant. I was there in August at a midnight show. This should be on tape. Parker was a dope. Missed chances for history. And pure enjoyment.
The Best of The Best, and only The Best! 🙌👏 The One and Only King
This is literally therapy for me
Hard to imagine ppl would be eating dinner while Elvis is up on stage performing!! I would not be able concentrate on food for sure!!!
Well...at this point in his life, I'm pretty sure nobody was worried that he'd be gone within the following decade.
Didn’t they have dinner just before the show?
😅⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️sure
They didn’t eat dinner while Elvis was on! They had a opening act for the dinner time! They had a comedian thst was on white they are dinner! Then when all the dishes were cleared away abd drinks only were served while Elvis was on! They just called it dinner show which was at 8 pm!

Then came the midnight shows.
This was a cherished performance of our Elvis ; The King of Music.❤️💕❤️💕
I saw him at the Hilton in December of 1973. He was just great. He got some kind of karate award on stage. He looked great and sounded great. I've never seen a better performer in Las Vegas.
The Greatest Ever. Changed the world forever.God bless him.
It's just so sad that Elvis Presley was only 42 when he died, but I will say that he was one of the greatest performers who ever lived.
I have to correct you, he was THE GREATEST, like Ali!!
And the most generous human being with the most giving heart. The list of people he helped in his lifetime is almost unbelievable!
@@kevinmckenna4847Ali loved Elvis! Great story of the friendship between these two.

C'est un Elvis au top de sa forme ! Là nous sommes en face du plus grand phénomène de tous les temps .... Elvis , le King ! De la chanson et du show et pas seulement du Rock'n roll ... Merci à toi Elvis .
There'll never be another one like him, the best without a doubt.
You are totally correct in your comment on that their will be another singer or performer like Elvis Presley not even in the next thousand years , as he was the best performer of the 20th century. He had the greatest voice even right up to his last concert his singing was still great , we , I mean the world lost the King of Rock n Roll at the age of only 42 years old , imagine all the music we could have got from him if you lived to say 70 years old , what a loss of all those greats records he could have made in that time.
This is lovely to hear elvis sounds nervous. But to hear his own words how he started is so good he talked a lot lovely thank you for sharing
Elvis at his absolute best! I love this period, he seemed to have so much fun. And the music was brilliant. Pure gold!
I'm speechless......does anyone have a time machine handy so that I can travel back to this show.....please????😟
Yep Elvis was a showman and entertainer and not a money wulf , so every one can buy tickets not only the rich 🕺🕺🕺🕺
In addition to Elvis sounding like a God - so does James Burton. The lead guitar work is fantastic - LOVE the solo on Blue Suede Shoes, for example - on fire right from the get-go!!! The whole rhythm section tight as an effing drum - backup vocals perfect, and Elvis's voice raw and sensational.
Hello Greg Winston , I would like to know how James Burton learned to play lead guitar the way he does...WOW...he is great !!
I was actually born the night of his August 2, 1969 performance here....that explains alot to me about how crazy I am about Elvis...lol...I had the chance to stand on the actual stage he stood on just two weeks ago....it was an anniversary present to me from my husband to take me to the very hotel that Elvis helped to build...The International Hilton, now known as the Westgate Resort & Casino, and I took the tour of his hotel suite on the 30th floor...I will never ever forget it and the feeling I felt standing there on the stage, alone with just two employees who actually allowed me in, they were not allowed to but they knew how much it would mean to me as a huge Elvis Fan......they told me that many people wont go down to the stage at night, that things have happened there, and the employees get spooked, and some have seen shadows and things....when I walked in there, my hair on the back of my neck stood on end, and I had shivers all over my body...the place was electric.....in the dead of night....we had just arrived to the hotel....and my husband and I were being nosy and went to the door and opened it....thats when the employees were surprised by my presence....they took me on the tour.....and I will never forget it.....love you Elvis Presley....you were such a gift to us.
@Kimberly & David R. Maracle That was a wonderful gift...I never thought of that but when this COVID crap is gone, Going to that hotel will be on my bucketlist as well as Graceland. I was 5 when he did this show but i was already so in love with him then,, He will always be my # one! No one is like Elvis nor will ever be..How i wish i couldve met him..

I love hearing Blue Suede Shoes in its entirety instead of as part of a medley.
He was absolutely spectacular .
Just incredible.
Exactly!!! UNIQUE and unforgettable 💝💝💝💝💝
Did you go to any of his concerts? How was he like?
GREAT VOICE AND DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE; NO DOUBT, THE KING.
Unfreakingbelievable. A genius unleashed.
You can still hear a touch of the 68 TV special.
Yes this is the first we have of 69'.... His voice is pristine. Doing this twice a night for a month is beyond belief. Literally, this is where Elvis grabs them by the throat saying I'm back!... And how stunningly beautiful he was at this time my God!! Thank You for posting this mate.
Actually, this is not the "first".
Fabulous no one can compare.
Wow!!!
Elvis presley.
To be able to travel back in time.
I live in Queensland, Australia and in the 1990's my American boss she went to one of his last concerts and was about 16 years old and she said that was the greatest concert she had ever seen , how lucky she was to see him live and it was a shame he didn't tour the world , I would have loved to seen him live on stage .
brilliant to hear him talk 🚬🚬🚬
Eventhough there are plenty enough soundboard recordings of the August 1969 area i prefer to hear this sparkling recording. It has so much energy and I agree that this performance is also a lot better than the later ones.
The sound is good. I hear the acoustics of the showroom!
Absolutely amazing!
Vocally he had it all. My goodness he's singing Ray Charles and the Beatles as if the songs where written for him.
Really enjoyed this concert. Pure Gold. Nothing was rushed and vocally he can't be even touched by his let say piers of the time. Well actually any era.
love it when he talks to the audience he sounds great as always love the southern drawl he's the best saw him at Madison square garden he was Fantastic
What night at MSG? My friend was there the opening Friday night! Must have been fantastic, he just owned the crowd!
No one could sing abetter version of I got a woman, not even Elvis himself, after this one. And the ending is totally awesome...
It's great to hear him enjoying this show so much despite being nervous. Pity we couldn't see video as he is quite a comic when he gets started and so human with it.
Elvis sounded different in 1969 from all the other years, Elvis sang yesterday multiple times in 1969 but this version is the best. Wish we had him back
I just Adore this man! Hes just everything, I could listen to him laugh all day!!!!I loveyou Elvis......
That violin played during Are You Lonesome Tonight is absolutely beautiful
such enchanting voice
I was there. $15 for dinner show, $10 for midnight show. Overheard one lady say, "I would love to see him, but I'm not paying that much to see anybody." Me...I went five nights in a row. Went to Vietnam, came back in 1970 and saw him again...three nights in a row.
That's awesome! :)
Michael J Johnson Good for you wish I was there
Her loss.
sounds so cheap compared to today! And absolutely worth it. Lucky you.
Damn... Today that kind of events would cost at least 150-200$ if not even more!
He was soooo hot!!!
The total package.
Soul depth and diversity personified.
An iconic artist, the likes of which may never be seen again.
IR-RELACEABLE!!! UN=COMPARABLE!!! UN-BEATABLE!!!! Forever The KING!!!

Que cantor !!!!! Isso é que era cantor , nunca mais existirá outro igual , esse cara deixou muitas saudades , 💕💕💕💕💕
It is very impressive! This time of Elvis ! He was really amazing singer ! Brilliant performance of King !!
Rare to hear Memories, beautiful song he should have done more often!!!! I think this is a great concert. His voice is good and strong here but he always gave us all he had to give!!! I love 💗 him talking and laughing and having a good time with his audience. I wish we had more time with him and his voice and music, he had so much more to contribute to the music world I believe! It’s a shame he had so many medical issues and the pain he lived with in silence!!!💕💜☮️🔝✝️😪😍🎼🎹🧡💛✡️💚🤩
Live long the KING of music, R.I.P Elvis.P
You are so right Kyle! Elvis is always referred to as the "KING OF ROCK AND ROLL." He really should be referred to as "THE KING OF ALL MUSIC!!!"
King of Kings...
When I want to remember Elvis, this the Elvis I choose to remember. I 10 years old when this was recorded and it was the movie That's The Way It Is when I became a fan. I remember seeing some of his movies on T.V. before that, but The Way It Is I saw in the theater when it first came out and I believe it was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. Forty seven years later I raised 4 children ,started a business and sold my business ect. After selling my business I spent the last 6 months studying Elvis. Thanks to You Tube I have been been able to watching and listening everything avalable on Elvis. I been able to go as far back as 1955 and listen to Elvis sing and do interviews. Without a doubt Elvis is the most influential entertainer and one of the top ten men of the 20th century and beyond. His influence is present today in Bruno Mars and other and who knows how many high profile people have learned from his mistakes.
I wanted to see Elvis in person, but soon I came an America August 1,1977 Elvis Presley he passed away August 16, 1977 I was sad 😭 I miss you and love you forever Elvis R.I.P. 🙏☝️🤴🎤🎵🎵🎵🎵❤️😘

I saw him at the Hilton in December of 1973. He was getting some karate award on stage. He was the best performer I ever saw in Las Vegas.
Me too was there in February, 1973. Elvis was 30th floor and I stayed on 29th floor. I was 27 back then.

Hello Biff Johnson....I was at the Hilton too, went to the Elvis show back in the 1970's I forgot which year...John from North Carolina.
When Elvis sings Memories it takes my breath away.....

mikey8317 HELL YES!!!!!!
No doubt, he is THE KING!

28:52 This is brilliant hearing him talk about these events that partly shaped his myth, from the man himself. Not some documentary or third party source.
Elvis cared so much what his fans thought of him. And In my opinion it was the tell all book that killed Elvis
Yes, it broke his heart he was betrayed by his closest friends. They would argue they were trying to snap him out of his destructive cycle of prescription drug abuse.

Amazing !we love you elvis?we miss you so much.
I'm retired now and a day doesn't go by that I don't spend a couple hours on my iPad listening to him. Sometimes I spend a whole day! I love watching his live performances and reading about him! The only pleasure I have since my husband passed! He's my guilty pleasure! I get so angry when I think how Parker pushed him to the brink of despair. He was so talented and could've been a great actor! Parker just saw him as a cash cow and robbed him blind! Not only taking 50% of his earnings but also making other money off Elvis that Elvis didn't get. He also wouldn't let Elvis take songs written by anybody unless they turned over the rights. Can you imagine how many more great songs he could have had? No wonder he was depressed! I think if his mom had lived even 10 years longer, things might've been different for him! His daddy was just seeing dollar signs and not looking out for his son?
Yes and I get all of that, but Elvis wasn't a victim. So sick of him being portrayed that way,. Yes Parker was a monster and there is no excuse for his greed, but let's also keep in mind without the Colonel would we have ever heard of Elvis? Not saying Parker wasn't a complete asshole, but Elvis was a man and he wasn't stupid.
I 100% agree
(With Sandra)…the new Elvis movie portrays it perfectly, I have over 35 years of studying Elvis, have over 50 books on him with over 10 perspectives and all say the same, he was financially abused as revealed in court several years after his death , I am 57 years old, have been to Graceland and going again this year, I even sang Hound Dog in 1979 with my guitar and dog, in front of a huge audience winning an under 18 talent show, my mother was a huge fan, one of the most sought after classical pianists of her time, and saw him on the Hayride. Elvis WAS a victim of the “Colonel Parker’s” greed and unpaid gambling debts, an illegal immigrant “….Elvis was a victim, you can be a “man” and still be a victim…. you cannot see everything always, Elvis hired a manager thinking he could trust him to take care of his finances so he could focus on his job, like anyone would hire a CPA. Tom may have opened a door to spark a quick flame but Elvis’ voice and self
was the key to his longtime success and popularity. He could have easily made it without that leech. He basically stole from Elvis and it was too late before it all surfaced. I believe Elvis died prematurely because of Mr. Parker’s selfish slave driving ways to pay off his gambling debts and allow him to continue to gamble. Elvis trusted an animal who betrayed him
He ruined ELVIS 🙁I PLAY ELVIS every day man, even being a hippie these times.still send chill's down spine.rock on ELVIS 🙏🕊️

The greatest STAR .
For histories sake, this should've been filmed.
josh10177 I agree with you, Elvis' talent was largely wasted... it may sound like an exaggeration, but when I think of all those years spent making questionable movies and avoiding live performances... when he did the Comeback Special he looked like a beast freed from a cage, which he was.
I agree... Don't know why they didn't... Maybe he was trying to figure out his act before putting out a televised show... Remember, he wasn't 19, he was 33, and hadn't performed for an audience in several yrs... Maybe he wanted to figure out for himself what he could still do and what he couldn't... We all would like to be agile like we were at 19, lol...
@@MysteryTrain yes he did.. and it was Awesome.. but the audience was everyone who worked on the special and maybe their families...(A safe crowd " which I don't think he needed")... A little different than an actual concert before the general public with people who pay to get in...
it was! but will we ever see it?
100% this should have been filmed, Elvis never looked better than he did in 1969.

In 1969 I'd gotten out of the Navy a year before and was planning to quit my job and attend the University of Arizona on the GI Bill. I heard Elvis was going to make his big comeback in Vegas at the International so being as I grew up on his music in the 50's I decided to just take a break and go to Vegas and see him live for the first time. Well I spent about two week there and probably went to a dozen of his shows during that time. It was great and he was even better than I realized. What a voice and what a performer. I agree, he was at his best during this time before the non-stop touring and unhealthy lifestyle took it's toll.
+swisher777 Shit! Incredible. I bet it must've been amazing being those crowds.

The dinner show was 15.00 per person, thats right, a steak, with trimmings and the show. WOW
Those fuckwits in power today ruined everything for their greed
Artists today are so freakin ridiculously overpaid, tickets should not be so high, & don’t you love it when Ticketmaster has disclaimers like, prices may vary based on demand or something like that. This is why I rarely go to a concert anymore, I only go if it’s someone I really really want to see.
I thought it was $40.00 a show, which is still low. That may have been a few years later, not sure.
