  • After 6000 Miles of On and Off-Road driving I share my experience with the Falken Wildpeak AT4W tires. I have experience with the previous Wildpeak AT3Ws, the BFG KO2s, and the Toyo Open Country AT3s. Everyone has different needs so I hope you find this review helpful in your search for the best all terrain tires that suit your needs!

I have the AT3W and the harder compound of the 4 turns me away. Couple that with trying some Mickey Thompson Baja Boss ATs, and I will be switching to the Baja Boss. Great info in the vid. The snow review has really solidified my decision.

Thanks for the honest review and double thanks for talking about sidewall ply, which no one does… especially channels that are actually selling the tires. I think a lot of people see reviews about indestructible sidewalls and have no idea that the tire they’re gonna buy, in the size they’re gonna buy it, doesn’t have that and nobody along the way gives them the information they’d need to know it… especially not BFG. Falken, on the other hand, does a great job and provides a downloadable pdf for all of their tire sizes… and the 285/70/17 is C rated with duraspec sidewalls, which I’m pretty sure means they have the extra plys that wrap from the tread around the shoulder and part way down the single ply sidewall(also available in E rating at the same weight?)
Between watching the video and typing this, rapidly lengthening, comment I finally put my waffling to bed and ordered a set(E1), to be installed on Thursday! It was the wet weather on very western Washington looking roads footage and feedback that did it… and the indestructible sidewalls;)

Great Review.. I LOVE the AT4w tires. I had the 3w on a 2020 Tacoma ACab 4×4 & now I have 2023 Tacoma 4dr (heavier truck) I put the 4w's on & they are perfect. Went up from 265/65/17 to 265/70/17 so 1inch taller tire. They mounted/balanced better then the 3w. Ride better. Excellent in rain (NorthEast/NE). Not loud. I might have lost 1/2-1 mpg compare to the STOCK Toyo Open Road tire on the new truck from factory. About 6000 miles on them now & they still look new with no wear (will purchase gauge soon)... I did have 3w's on 2020 Tacoma & with only 20,000 miles they were worn more then I wanted to see & they didn't ride as good imo... NOTE : I do not use these wheels/tires in snow (I have steelies with studded tires for NE snow season) so I can not comment on driving in snow... One would think harder compound will roll easier & if the tire is heavier it would balance out if factoring MPG. Im getting 23/24 MPG with a 2023 Tacoma with 500lbs of tools & gear PLUS my 200lbs body. No complaints. Great tire. Will return here at 20,000 miles & update my findings

That nose dive on the wet brake test is a bit much. Some heavier springs and a heavier slow compression rate would make things safer. The AT4Ws have big shoes to fill, but it looks like they are doing it, great info thx!

Do you have the LT tires and what tire pressures do you run?

What are your thoughts on the Duratrak RT's vs these AT4W's? Are you planning on doing a video on the new Duratrak RT?

Interested in these tires. Question: How do well do they stay balanced, and how would you compare them to the new KO3's? My scenario; F-150 towing a travel trailer, so I'm 85% highway towing with only about 15% mild off-road driving on forest roads and trails while exploring from campgrounds. I've had Ridge Grapplers (better for off-road) and Toyo AT3's (good wet performance but hard to keep balanced, for some reason). Summary: AT4W or KO3 is what I've narrowed down to comparing. The one that is solid with staying balanced and always providing a smooth ride without having to go back to get re-balanced is the winner, for me. Thank you for your input. Cheers! For me about .25 mpg better mileage on a 480 mile trip (I’m in a 3/4 ton). So basically the same as my Tremor Wranglers.
