I couldn't click fast enough - love your reviews and channel! Definitely like that Maverick too - perfect size for most truck buyer's needs.
Hear! Hear!
Same. I’m digging all this real tire testing and helping me with some ideas before purchase
Review? Lol i thought this was a commercial.
The taller tires & new wheels really make the Maverick look sharp! Nice video, and it does seem like the perfect all around truck for most folks! Hopefully you're planning a 6 mos 'review' of it down the line.
No interest in lifting the Maverick as is? I guess it's good enough for what you'd use it for.
Definitely my favorite new car of the year. Just wish there was an AWD hybrid.
I'm pretty sure all that is out right now in the aftermarket lift world is basically just spacers to lift the body away from the suspension which is definitely not the ideal way you want to lift a vehicle. I would wait for a proper real suspension lift to put on instead of the spacers
@@Mr.Thermistor7228 3K lift on a 20K vehicle? 🤣
Spacers will do just fine.
My thoughts exactly, there's an AWD hybrid escape, why not the Mav? Price maybe?
@@misohoney4656 Having seen both done on the Jeep Liberty, I can say with confidence that a full coil over replacement kit is going to be significantly superior to spacers. And it doesn't have to cost 3k either. 1k is normal for a mid range coil over kit. Now, if you want adjustable hydraulic shocks and all the other hard core offroad goodies then yeah, 3k. Why would you get that for a Maverick though? Upgraded Old Man Emu or Bilstein or Rancho shocks and stiffer taller springs isn't going to set you back that much and it will do a better job than "hockey puck" spacers will.
In general you should avoid ever lifting IFS unless you get a redesigned kit with new control arms etc, otherwise you're just asking for trouble if you're going to do anything that requires that full suspension. Slightly beefier tires was a good route to go, the Maverick already has pretty decent ground clearance.
I'm glad I found you. I love your thorough tests in real world conditions.
Everything you say about mud, rain, snow, slush, concrete snow, wet snow, dry snow. It's made me realize we have the exact same weather. 😁The second someone else makes tracks on snow, it is now ice, until it melts.
This makes me even more excited for my maverick. I don't plan to do any off roading outside of camping. Knowing the AWD system and good tires will handle this well is great news!
The tires performed great!.. nice to see the capability of the Maverick in muddy-snowy conditions.. I think this is my favorite set of tire choices so far!
Um, pretty sure that most would agree that a _narrower_ tire is better in snow because of increased ground pressure per square inch. Basically, narrower tires 'cut-through' the snow instead of floating on top of the snow.
Thanks for the vid, this convinced me to get a maverick for my first truck. With the proper tires, its really impressive!
Great vid as always! Going on these mountain adventures with you in the maverick has been a joy! All you needed was a big cup of Cafe Ladro for a perfect trip.
WOW! Such a beautiful area to ride in on forest roads. The Maverick will go down as one of Ford's all time hits!
A sincere THANK YOU from all Maverick owners/potential owners for making these videos to showcase this vehicle! I also like the two fold dimension of Tire and Vehicle review! Those companies owe you...they will sell a ton of that package!!
The video production quality is TOP NOTCH as usual!
Great videos. You show exactly what many people are looking for. While keeping things factual and relevant for many buyers.
Great review. I've enjoyed every single Vredestein tire I've owned thus far. The pinzas look great
If my wife would allow me I would trade tires as often as you have been :)
Really do appreciate all your tests. I live in Rural mountain Wyoming and have to drive a few hundred miles a week on dirt/gravel and snow. We ended up going with Falken AT Trails as a compromise between a HD All terrain and a snow tire. (Running on a Jeep Renegade 4x4 with manual trans).
Considering trading the Renegade for a Maverick each one of your videos is making me more interested.
Bro, an AWD manual transmission Jeep Renegade?! Aren't those unobtanium?
@@AWDfreak they are very rare but probably the best combo in a Renegade. Has the 1.4L Turbo and 6-Speed manual. Ours is a 2015 that we bought a year ago with only 10K miles on it. Sadly they discontinued the manual a few years ago :( Love everything except the space
@@flightmedic7634 It has a pretty short 1st gear, correct? I believe it has an 18.5:1 crawl ratio. It's not quite as good as the surprisingly-capable 20:1 crawl ratio as the ZF 9HP-equipped Renegade Trailhawk, but still massively-better than its sole direct-line AWD manual competition, the car I drive (a manual Subaru XV Crosstrek). Though mine has a special swap that makes its crawl ratio better than even a Renegade Trailhawk 😉
@@AWDfreak Yes first gear does pretty well. I have taken it over quite a few trails that were way above what most sane owners would attempt and it has done just fine. I was considering a manual Crosstrek as well. A gear swap? That sounds very interesting. 🙂
@@flightmedic7634 Nah, better. A dual-range 5MT swap. Probably a huge waste of money for most, but I was willing to pay for it.
I think buying a manual transmission all-wheel drive Jeep Renegade would have saved me a lot more money and trouble. Factory-optional Mopar rock rails already available, factory Trailhawk undercarriage protection can be purchased in ready supply under warranty instead of having to buy all this aftermarket protection that I did on my Subaru.
I like my Subaru vehicles, but I'm very much envious of what the Jeep crossover lineup has to offer in terms of factory-available off-road-related parts and outright out-of-the-box off-road capability.
Another excellent review, Ryan! Plenty of good and timely instruction, with the usual key spots of humor thrown in. "Ooops, it's a puddle!"
Man, the more I see regarding the Maverick, the more impressed I am with this trucklet.
Great Video! Truly appreciate all of the awesome information on the tires as well as the Maverick!!!
Love that you are doing these videos. Those new wheels and tires look amazing on this truck. Great choice!
Great video! I like the realness of the drive and scenery, down to earth and very informative! Cheers from the Dakotas!
Awesome video! So well made. Perfect test, those tires look great. Stoked on the Maverick!
Thanks for offroading your truck nice to see what it can do! Waiting for mine patiently!
Great content. Your reviews are honest and thorough.
Great video again! Your videos inspire a lot of confidence in what I aim to do with my Maverick on 245/65 Toyos!
Love the ford maverick especially this one
Great video! The Maverick is a beast. I've owned full size trucks my whole life and I ordered one of these. Same package. Can't wait!
Love the truck! Beautiful scenery too.
This thing looks great with that wheel setup
From the first time I read about this truck I like it now that it is out and I see more about it's capabilities. I like it even more. Yes a Tremor package or something like it would put in a class by itself. It kinda already is anyway. Great review.
I don't think I've heard the word "slickery" before.
3 times in 2 minutes
You haven’t. It’s terrible and makes people cringe.
😎
Ryan….you are the best! I really appreciate your reviews. I am in love with the Ford Maverick and am holding out for the AWD Hybrid and hopefully a plug in version! Keep up the videos on this vehicle! You’re the master!
Great video. Very informative. In upstate NY we call this course a driveway.
Cascade snow is called Cascade concrete... it has a lot of water, sets up as ice quickly unless extremely low temperature conditions... then it is beautiful powder, but conditions change rapidly. Been on that road during the summer months prior to the big fire...
Speaking to the snow in the PNW I was going over snowqualmie pass heading west in the spring in a 2WD dodge dakota. saw a light dusting thought 'eh its nothing' almost slid into the concrete divider as soon as I hit it. Ended up having to follow an 18 wheeler's tire tracks for traction until the other side of the pass. Not unfamiliar with snow in general having grew up in western MT but that was something else.
This brand of tires is SO GREAT. The reviews for each model they make, show it.
Used Hypertracs on an Acura TLX Type S, literal balance & ride/handling perfection.
Then did another set of their Wintertrac Pros on a BMW X5, and LOVED them for the same reason. Drove on them longer than my summer Continentals, too.
Great Pinza AT pick now too, as shown on your Maverick!
I am so in on this truck! And hell yes it’s a truck! You’ve proven that several times over that’s for sure.
The DRLs are really starting to grow on me too.
super nice tire and wheels! like the turbine wheels from the 80's!
Put Verdestein Quadtrac on our Ford Flex. Great for New England winters. P.S. Also great to see you with @TFLOffRoad.
Kirkland LS…..do my biz at this location. Great stuff and thank you. Looking at a Maverick over a Ridgeline. Never thought I would but I am and your vids help
I had a first gen Nissan 200SX 5 speed manual. I put on vredestein all season tires. I could not get the cars stuck in the snow. They were rediculously good. I actually would try to get then stuck. Was always able to get out. I did not go off-roading since it was a two wheel drive car. But they were amazing tires that as you said, provided alot of confidence.
Nice review, Thanks!
I’m really impressed with your Maverick.
Great video! I run wild peak AT3W on my half ton ram here in Western Quebec where we get a ton of snow. It's true that they aren't quite as good in the snow as when I ran a dedicated winter (firestone winterforce UV if I remember correctly). In my opinion the AT3W is far superior to the firestone in deep snow with comparable braking at lower speeds. The Firestone's blow the AT3W out of the water at high way speeds though. In my case, I rarely drive the truck on the highway so this works out fine for me.
As always, you make great content!
Those wheels are perfect for that truck makes it look more rugged 👌
Great scenery
Great video. Thank you!!! For running in normal mode for those of us considering just getting the awd with no fx4 package. Please keep testing normal vs other modes when you're in those situations!
Both the tyres and the truck performed impressively! I'm quite sad that the Maverick isn't coming to the UK, I'd buy one in an instant based on how well they're shaping up so far!
Glad you tested these. I saw them on Tire Rack & wondered. When I wear out my OE Goodyears on my new Tacoma Trd OR, I plan on buying these or Falken Wildpeak At3w tires.
Not usually an aftermarket wheel fan but those look great on that truck.
Really digging the tire testing now, good idea
Very nice review of the tires and truck! The Maverick is on my sort list along with the Ranger and Colorado.
The Pinza is the best all around AT out there. Completely. But for offroad, nothing better than the KO2, Ive had many sets over the years, of probably 40 sets of truck tires for offroading trailriding AT purposes.
I had KO2 in the 1990s, love that tire. Except it had poor braking distance on the highway. Great for dedicated offroading.
Thanks for this video. I was thinking about these tires for my 2011 Escape AWD. Guess I will be ordering these to replace the Pirellli Scorpions A/T I have now.
those wheels look great with that blue!
Getting my Maverick in 2 weeks. Got the XLT with the FX4 package, looking forward to upgrading to 245/65R17 AT tires and then getting a 2 inch lift kit later on.
Great video, Ryan! The Maverick looks so good. If it was available with a stick, I would have on in my garage. BTW: I'm running the Pinzas on my Crosstrek and love them.
I’d love them to slap a manual in it as well. I’ve never driven an auto (besides other peoples cars), I don’t enjoy it. But this little truck might be a perfect fit for my needs despite the lack of a proper gearbox.
Living in the PNW, this is a useful channel because i may encounter some of these conditions driving to work. I work in healthcare and sometimes I have to drive in soup and snow.
Been running Vredestein Quadrac Pros (also tri-peak rated) in my '17 Impreza for a couple years now here in New England, haven't felt the need to switch to dedicated snows, they just "work". Big thing about tri-peak is, sure, the snow, but also the "really cold freeze 0 or below" days where you'd want a dedicated snow with softish rubber, where an "all season" would be kind of hard and lose traction, even on dry (or, salt covered) pavement. Others have found the same when I've recommended. The price doesn't hurt either. And in the summer? still grippy. I'd definitely say they're much better in all weather than the Conti DWS or DWS 06 that I used to swear by. Practically night and day.
I love the maverick videos
Looking at getting these on my F150, and I think you convinced me.
Hi Ryan, great video as always! I wonder where did you find all the available forest trails. Just recently purchased a new soft roaster and want to test out its AWD
Great review as always. This is the best car channel on CZcams hands down.
I like these tires but there are so many other options made in the USA that I would give these a pass.
I get that. Thanks for watching!
@Matthew Putnam I feel the same way about the truck.
@@rightlanehog3151 truck is not made in USA but unfortunately nothing similar is. Sucks
@@TheCoffeeField Honda Ridgeline is 🤷🏻♂️
@@fubarmedic4222 the Ridgeline is bigger than this one. The ridgeline is a Pilot with a bed. The Maverick is much smaller
Thank you for the great review. I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on towing a 2000lbs trailer with a Maverick down BLM and forest roads. On paper it seems doable but I would love your thoughts. The trailer is made by Bean Trailer in Salt Lake. Thanks!
nice video, thanks
I never considered this tire . But now it is interesting. And the maverick in today’s market it is a very attractive car to buy .
Nice video. I had to chuckle though. In Colorado we call your snow a slight dusting.
It's all lot roughh when it's winter season;) nice off-road video man. 😎👍🌨️🏔️
I had this brand on my car(not the all terrain obviously) but they were 3 peak rated and they did fantastic in the snow. I would like run those all terrain in snow too.
Who would have thought, a FWD(FWD Biased) Truck?? We're living in some strange times, that's for sure lol
TIRES... They make ALL the difference in the world.. Your Ko2 opinion is spot on.. My opinion as well. This is the reason why I only use, General Grabber ATX/AT2(Predecessor).
Aereal shots were awesome!!! Great Video(As always) Ryan..
Fwd unibody gets alot of hate, but higher mpg and more rear seat space (more than the ranger) these will outsell the ranger. I know alot of people that are planning to down size their full size trucks with gas prices today or upgrade from their suv and this will grab them. The maverick has more rear seat leg room and better mpg and around the same power as a tacoma and its half the price. Crazy
I've been looking at the cooper at4s tires as a nice all weather off road tire. Might be a good alternative here too.
Those new rims especially in that color actually look better than the stock Ford ones.
Best channel.
Waiting for the 42mpg Maverick. Built it several times. $22,800 out the door with sunroof, rear window and bed liner. Don't need AWD in Appalachia, Subaru Forrester is for that. And yes, we do get snow and muck at elevation as well.
Looks like a promising new choice!
I had a set put on my F150 Crew Cab today. I'm coming from BFG TKOs, which don't have the best road manners. Soon it's going to get snowy here by the Great Lakes, so I'll see how the Pinzas perform.
I'd be very interested in an update how you like the Pinza AT, (it's been a year since your reply)
Another nice video! It's a pity that so many SUV have 19 or 20" wheels. It's almost impossible to find All Terrain tires for a lot of cars.
(I love those mountains! I guess I would take some spray or handgun, I have some memories of some "nice" encounters even close to urban areas... 🐻😰😁)
20:33 nothing beats the sound of a nice V8 💓
Great review!!!
Great video as always!. It seems like Ford has delivered a "Do it all" (Mildly at least) little truck. I am more and more convinced I need one in exchange for my Escape.
Yea they really nailed it with this one I think. I think this is going to sell unbelievably well. I'd put money on it out selling the ranger with no problem at all
i have a CRV and considering the same ting
Thought it was ugly when Ford first unveiled it. But seeing yours, I like it more and more. Actually quite handsome. You and the truck ;)
Sweet truck and tires! The wheels really make it stand out. I bet a bunch of us still want to see nick's gx do the trails. Please? For fun?!
Love this channel and your reviews. I have a question, would a set of tires 265/65R17 all terrain fit the Maverick ?
Great video.. enjoy maverick
Those Vredesteins are the best from what I have seen in testing. The company is new in the American market and if more retail outlets( America’s tire I’m looking at you) they would not be able to keep them in stock. And, if more car manufacturers offered them as OEM, that would be huge.
Love the maverick series! Please keep it up.
What are the wheel specs including offset?
Appreciate your videos, have a friend picking up a Maverick and it's neat to see how it performs on the exact roads we've spent tons of time exploring! Looks like it'll be a pretty dang capable little adventure/overland rig that's also a good daily for him.
One note to those curious about the trees: Up on top it's nothing but dead tress, but the brilliant orange fir trees you see all over are Larches, and they're deciduous conifers (meaning they lose their needles every year). Get out and see them while you can, they're slowly dying off in Washington state due to climate change.
Good video. I like this guy.
So we saw the air down thing, cool, but it would have been nice to also see what he does to air back up for the trip home.
Good review. Could you put a set of the toyo at3 on your 4runner and do a mud/snow test on your off raod course for us? Thank you
I live on the oregon coast, terrain looks just like where you're at. I'd like to affirm the snow on the PNW is not like on the other side of the cascades an inch is more than enough to get you in trouble.
The new wheels look better than the originals! Nice choice.
Love the Falken Wildpeak AT3's, and the noise doesn't bother me at all.
I'd trust the pressure gauge over the TPM sensor readout
Slickery ... Word of the day
It’s “a thing” here in the PNW☺️
Is there a driving mode that you can select that keeps the awd always on(power on all 4 wheels at all times)? I think it would interesting to find out and I mean this in normal driving condition, not while off roading.
Those wheels look really nice on the Maverick, they're like M-Sport rally wheels.
How well did the wheel alignment hold up to all the off-roading?
hi, how are you able to put the LP adventure LP1 on the maverick? Last time i checked they only support 5x100 and 5x114
Curious to which tire you liked best. The Pinza AT or the Trail Terrain TA?
Watching this again it's remarkable how he predicted the Tremor in a way. "They just need to add an extra inch of lift and add that twin-clutch rear drive unit from the Bronco".
Hows the mpg with the larger tires? Any noticeable drop?
I like those rally style wheels
