Mines on pre-order. I'll watch this over again once it's finally here. I find your explanations a breeze to follow. A natural teacher. Thank you, Jason!👍👍👍
Finally - a beginners guide to the A7CII by someone who is very knowledgeable in his field. Thanks Jay
Thanks Joe I really appreciate the kind words and I can't wait to get the silver version I pre-ordered so I can make a few more videos with it. It's the perfect camera for me right now I feel like 👍 ... Although I do still really want that 4k/120p HD/240p the A6700 and ZV-E1 have.... Thanks again for the comments and I''ll catch up with you 👊
I just had this delivered alongside a 24mm f1.4 two hours ago. This will be my first camera ever. After 2 weeks of research, countless CZcams videos and wondering between A7Cii and A7CR and A74 and ACRV I turn on this camera and all of a sudden I get a feeling of dread. I am bombarded by options and icons and flickers and even more icons popping up.
YOUR VIDEO IS A LIFESAFER JASON! This is just what I needed
PS: If anyone is a beginner like me and still watching CZcams videos wondering whether they should get this camera or something more advanced...trust me THIS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH
I appreciate so much how you describe so much of the camera without making us feel stupid or overwhelmed. This is both useful for people who know Sony cameras, and who don’t.
This video covers so much I'm so grateful. This is literally everything I've been needed to understand, all in one stop. And im only half way through.
Nicely done. Not just for beginners but for long-time Sony camera users, this is an awesome summary and detail on the many options of this camera!
Great video! Other CZcams videos on the same subject are severely lacking, but this one touches all the bases. This is my first Sony camera and it has taken some effort to find everything in the menus / controls. You answered a couple issues I couldn't find a solution for and pointed out two important features that I had missed. Direct. To the point. Very clear and with no wasted time. I'm subscribing.
Not only have you gave me insight on on my first ever camera purchase but you've also taught me so much about photography as a whole. Thanks 🙏
I’m in China and have the same problem. My Chinese is okay but I would definitely be struggling without this video!
Super Amazing Tutorial.. The Best !!! Watching while waiting for mine to arrive
Great video. You are super valuable source...very consistent, insightful and knowledgeable! THANK YOU Jay!
Excellent video. Thanks Jason
Thank you so much this video was very helpful for setting up my new Sony camera!
Thank you so much Jason fro the in depth and informative video! Very helpful! God bless and good luck!
Excellent video! No need to read the manual anymore! It also gives you a good overview of what to expect when switching to a Sony camera. Keep up the good work!
I watched this video end to end a few times as I got used to my a7cii. It is so comprehensive, i keep learning new things as I rewatch this video
These cameras have so much power!!
Thanks for all the explanations. Essential video!
This is SOOOO helpful! You nailed and solve any issues I was having while watching the video. You taught everything so well. 10/10 Jason, THANK YOU for this video!!
Thanks for the comments and you are very welcome Pat!
Epic video, so much critical info! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words!
Nice work. Appreciate your effort with this.
Hi Jason, Thank you for making this video! So helpful
Glad it was helpful and you are very welcome :)
Wonderful tutorial for people new to photography and camera like me! Thanks Jason👍👍👍
This is the best video about the camera I've seen on CZcams
Thank you so much to set up my new A7C2. Great job you made!!!
Jason, you are awesome! thank you so much for the detailed explanations on the use of the camera. You have helped beginners like me a lot. I am sure I will watch the video again to understand my new A7CII better. Once again, thank you!
thanks Jay.. was really helpful
Now I don't have to go back to our one (and only nearby pro camera shop) to bother them with 'silly' questions. Very thorough and I look forward to checking out your other videos.
Just got my A7CII today and this video helped a ton. Thanks Brother.
Thanks for sharing, helpful video. I just upgraded from my a7iii to the a7cii. What a huge upgrade tech wise.
Wonderful tutorial, thx Jason
I can't thank you enough for your kind and patient guide. I have been taking pictures for decades but this is still interesting and useful to me.
You're so good at explaining things! Thanks.
This was EXCELLENT! Much appreciated!
amazing video thank you sir.
gonna bye it,so very helpfuii
Thanks so much for this great video - great explanation and demonstration! Many greetings from Germany to New York!
Thanks for watching :)
Very good and specific video 🔥 you'll find everything you need. Thanks for making it 🙏
Thank you 🙌
Excellent video Brother. I’ve been debating between the A7iii, A7IV and A7R V… but stubbled on the new A7Vii today and I think it’s going to be the one for me.
Just bought this and the guide was helpful
Great tutorial! Thank you for doing it. Just bought my A7CII yesterday and this video answered a bunch of questions I had while trying to learn the camera on my own.
Very welcome!
Nice video. It helps a lot. Now waiting for the camera to be released here to get it into practise.
thanks for this beginners guide, super helpful and well explained! :)
You're very welcome!
It is a really good and high quality review video. Thank you!
You're very welcome!
Just ordered this camera. My last camera was a canon ae1, from back in the 1970’s.
This is going to be cool !!!
Extremely well explained and very helpful
Glad it was helpful and thank you for the very kind words :)
Such a great tutorial. The way you explain is very easy to follow. 📷
Thanks so much! 😊
Amazing video, Thanks!
You're welcome!
Excellent vid good job. The camera is on order 🙂
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the video, I feel like I just walked into a new camera brand ecosystem after going from the A7III menu to this one.
Thank you so much for an awesome tutorial.
You're very welcome!
Great video very helpful, I just get my Sony A7C ii
Glad it was helpful and good choice on cameras ;)
Greetings from the UK - I bought this as a travel camera, something light and capable. I really wanted to stick with Nikon as I'm familiar with their menus etc but I couldn't find a model which fitted the bill - did flirt with the Fuji X100VI but I preferred the spec of the Sony.
So far I'm not disappointed and have added a couple of inexpensive primes to the kit lens to keep things flight and travel friendly. Look forward to more of your content - Thanks!
I have just come from A7R-III and this small thing is totally different experience! The new menu is the most confusing for me personally, think about I have been using the menu that most people hate for 7 years and get used to that already. The new video features are so new to me as well, hope I can learn and understand it quickly.
This video is very essential, even for the guy like me. Thanks so much.
You are very welcome :) The new menu is far better once you get to know it in my opinion. Like anything though, it does take a bit of time and practice to figure it all out. I Highly recommend using the My Menu area to load up all your favorite menu settings that are not in the function menu already. This makes searching for a specific setting that you only use from time to time way easier! All the best, Jay
Gratidão o vídeo ficou muito bem explicado, me ajudou muito espero mais conteúdo da A7cii
ty for the video
Hi Jason ! Thank you for the video. Could you please have a video on the Time lapse feature. Many thanks.
Awesome video I finally found here. This camera is great but an overview like yours is crucial to begin with because it is just too high tech. Thank you so much, Jason. Wish to have one in Japanese to spread around here!
infomrative video on sony A7c mk II
Great vid my friend! 🤩
Thank you very much Ken, and I have been really enjoying your awesome photography/ videos as well 👊
Saved this video although i only plan to buy the A7cii in a few months time 😁
Great video, thank you!
“And I am serious guys!” 😁
I switched from Fujifilm x-t30ii to Sony a7c ii and I like the specs of Sony , hopefully the colors will be great too , the menu is overwhelming but since there is touch menu , everything is easier to reach. lovely camera
This video is perfect and I want to know about flash settings, also about HSS ?
Thank you very much
Mine A7CR in pre-order. I am exciting about my new Sony.
Oh yeah, good times a coming :)
Are you planning to do the set up for the A7CR?, tks Jason
Thanks!
great video! just ordered one last night. coming from a canon 7D
Hope you enjoy it as much as I am :)
What I've done with the Shutter While Power Off is to have it as a shortcut on My Menu and then only switch it on when changing lenses rather than have it going every time the camera is turned off. Only thing is I need to remember to do it.
Thank you
Big Bro, thanks a lot for this guide.
Subbed to you and rubbed to you.
Am buying the a7c ii today. 🎉
Thank you.
You're very welcome and Happy New Year :)
Absolutely fantastic, thank you so much, my A7cr arrives tomorrow
You are very welcome!
@Jason_Hermann I am coming from Canon, they are famous for the simple color coded menus. The new Sony menu is hugely improved, color coded, vertical instead of horizontal, but more complicated. It is more complicated because it has 50 more floors of depth, the customization is insane. Canon needs to wake up. They are falling behind. The Sony auto focus has lept over Canon with greater subject detection. The reason I switched is for the lens lineup and third-party options. Take care, thanks for your good work. You will teach me a lot.
Yeah the 3rd party lens situation is the biggest problem I find with Canon these days, but the RF L lenses they do make are unbelievable!! The Canon AF for wildlife like birds in flight is actually better than Sony believe it or not, but in every other situations Sony is still the king of AF for sure in my opinion.
@Jason_Hermann I have the R7 and I had the R6m2 with the RF 100-500. It was incredible, and I loved it but, I was uncomfortable traveling with $8000 in my hand. And I always drew attention as soon as I brought up the big white. I travel so size matters. I love the R7 but there are no apc s lenses for RF. L glass is too big, heavy and expensive. I sold everything. I sold that $4000 lens for $2550. I got the Tamron 150-500 for $1400 and the 28-200 for $700. FF is covered. I switched to the a6700, i loved it so much I sold it it to upgrade, I have 5 great apc s lenses. Like sigma 10-18, 18-50mm, 30 f1.4, sony 70-350, so when I travel I am set. My plan with the a7cr is to have 2 cameras in one. I have a cruise at the end of the month, we will see how it goes. Thanks
Yeah, the Tamron is a great value, but I used bot the Canon 100-500 and Tamron 150-500mm and they do not compare in optical quality on the higher end of things... Also, the Tamron weighs nearly 1 pound more than the Canon... It's really hard to go back from L glass. I totally hear your situation though and that is awesome you found what works best for you. That is what it's all about Robert 👊
I like to use the "Level" to tell me when the camera is level with the horizon. In the setup>Operation> Customize DISP there are two options Monitor and Finder. I am stymied by this, I would like to have the level displayed in both the monitor and viewfinder, but need some help with this. Thanks Denny
Excellent video, I have bookmarked this video and waiting for my A7C II coming
Fantastic video! I'm considering this camera among others, and your video tutorials have proven to be invaluable. Thank you! Two questions, please: Does this camera have Clear Image Zoom? And does it feature Dynamic Active Stability like the ZV-E1? Much appreciated!
Awesome, thank you! As to your questions, yes to the clear image zoom, and no to the dynamic active stab…
@@Jason_Hermann Thank you!
Is there an option for 4k 30fps? I can't find that in the settings. Thank you!
Subbed, Thanks!
Awesome, and thank you very much :)
This may say “Judith “ but you should get $5 from “Kathryn “ , me. Awesome instructions. Camera delivery tomorrow and will watch again & again til I get it! Been 25 yrs since last real camera experience (except cell phone of course). Thank you! ❣️❣️❣️
Thank you very much :) Super exciting camera coming you way and I just received my silver one a few days ago 👍
you know, I just bought this camera in Japan. But I forgot is that most cameras in Japan only use Japanese language, so this video really helped me. Thank You
I’m in China and have the same problem. My basic Chinese level is okay but I would definitely be struggif it weren’t for this video!
Me too. But the worst thing is that it doesn't support PAL
@@tunex_oh it should do! I have an option to switch between ntsc and pal on mine. Hope you have that option too!! Good luck!
@@tunex_ can you show me where is the option to replace pal and ntsc?
@@virhanmuhammad3089 I couldnt find it so i dont think it does
I’m curious how big files are in raw. I’m wondering how many high res raw files I can fit on a 128gb card. I’m ordering one in silver real soon.
Zv-e1 or a7cii, there should be a camera a7cs if there is one a7cr, like the 7c body, great video actually you have so great way to explain thanks,
A7C II for sure in my opinion, because the ZV-E1 overheats when recording longform videos, and the resolution is not high enough for detailed Landscape or Portrait type work. The ZV-E1 is a full frame vlogging camera, where as the A7C II is a full frame true hybrid camera I would say. The ZV-E1 is the A7Cs pretty much, except Sony did not put the thermal cooling system in the camera, so it overheats pretty fast. The FX3 is the A7S III replacement it seams like in my opinion...
Thank you so much for this! I bought my camera from Japan and as everything is in Japanese so the menu settings were super confusing for me
You're very welcome!
wew i end up pre order one of this after watching your video heheheheh
thank you so much! amazing detailed video! it helped me a lot!
Hi Jason, I have one question about cleaning the sensor, could you advise whether I should turn on the camera while cleaning the sensor or not? As I know turning on the camera will activate the IBIS and it prevents me from damaging the IBIS while I put a little pressure on cleaning the sensor. Is it correct? Thanks.
Hello,
No, you don't want the camera on when cleaning as far as I am aware... You won't damage the IBIS system unless you really push hard which you should not be doing either.... Many videos on youtube for how to clean your sensor, but I have not actually ever done it myself yet.
From an a7lll would u up grade and of u have what were the biggest trade offs and upgrades...I mainly shoot video on a7iii
Yes I would upgrade, and the major trade-offs in my opinion would be the viewfinder quality, dual card slots, and max 1/4000sec mechanical shutter... The viewfinder quality I don't really mind though personally, but a lot of people do mind for reference, and the mechanical shutter is also not much of an issue either in my opinion, because the sensor readout speed is so fast, electronic can be used for the 1/8000sec if needed no problem.
You linked to the Sony Sports Settings - Quick for the A6700 above. Are there differences worth focusing on for the A7cii? I'd also love to see a longer version diving more into the options that are available and why you're picking what you picked for sports/action. I'd like to setup an action preset on one of the 1/2/3 dials and still trying to wrap my head around it.
Very good video. Useful.
I have a question:
without figuring out how to activate the Shutter potentiometer (on Shutter Priority and Manual Exposure) with a decimal point - for example: 160.8. This adjustment is unnecessarily subtle and slow. How do I get the value back to 1/160
Thanks!
Sounds like you might have anti-flicker on? To turn that off go here: MENU → (Shooting) → [Shutter/Silent] → [Anti-flicker Set.] → desired setting item.
I realized that this variable - Shutter speed - has a different appearance given that the Anti-flicker Set is in the on position.
Yes. And this is very useful.
@@ilkogruev Yes, super useful to combat flickering lights in particular! 👍
Jason I would like to set a custom button to toggle between full frame and aps-c mode which button is best and how do I program that?
I've been using the button on the lens for that, because I tend to only use it with my more telephoto lenses that have the button... It's in the custom settings and you can assign it to whatever button works best for you. See here for more info: support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/support/tutorial/ilc/ilce-7cm2/en/16.php
Hi Jason, is it possible to transfer files quickly to an iPhone? I think it would be very important to get a backup given that it only one card slot.
Hello, The easiest and fastest way to backup your files while on the go if you don't have a laptop would be to get an SD card reader for your smartphone and just copy the files over that way. Here is one I would recommend for that purpose: geni.us/npvup
Can someone please please tell me when he explains getting shutter speeds above 1/30 in the “1,2,3” modes on the dial.
Hi Jason thanks for the info very helpful. I am trying to workout how you set up IR remote control for the A7c2? My other sony cameras gave this option in the menu. Do you know if this can be done?
Hello Tao, IR Remotes no longer work as the new cameras use Bluetooth. The Sony RMT-P1BT Wireless Remote Commander is the new remote: geni.us/M42Z
Thanks Jason I don't know how many times I went through the menus to look for IR remote. Much appreciated your time and answer.
I had the same problem a few years ago when I wanted to use my IR remote... haha
I am not a beginner at all, but I enjoyed the entire video.
Awesome video! I noticed that the panoramic option is no longer available. Is it located somewhere in the menu now, or was it completely removed from this model?
It's gone completely unfortunately.... I don't understand why Sony would not include that feature, but it seams the more expensive cameras get less easy to use beginner oriented features for lack of a better explanation. I loved that feature and used it often!
thanks for the introduction. when you format the sd card, will you lose your setup?
No!
Just purchased one, however I'm photo-centric and wish there are two guides. I'm especially interested in the video side.
Thanks for the video👍🏻 quick question on my A7cii with 40mm 2.5 Sony I have the noticed the focus doesn't always match the green focus point. This is in continuous focus. I have tried release and balanced emphasis. Thanks any help would be appreciated.
Hmmm I'm not really sure what is going on here.... What kind of shutter speeds are you using? How fast is your subject moving? Can you try this with a non moving subject to clarify?
@@Jason_Hermann all sorts to be honest. I have just done a complete reset. Thanks for the reply
Hi I'd like to know how to turn off the tutorials voice? I left it on as it tells you what your in and what certain buttons . Now I'm I'm a little familiar with the camera ,I can't seem to find what the tutorials voice are in, in the menu system. Hope someone can help. Thanks!
I would like to keep touch to track while taking pictures but is there a way I can get rid of the icons on the sides of the screen while keeping touch track enabled?
Yes if you press the display button on the top of the rear control wheel, you can cycle thru different LCD screens that have less icons...
Thanks for the guide! As I was setting up, even playing with the features for 5 minutes, I could feel the camera is a little warm. There has been no lens attached. Is that normal for these Sony cameras? Thanks!
You're very welcome and yes that is normal...
@@Jason_Hermann Thank you Jason. Enjoying your content, the way you present is great!
Hey, can someone that owns the A7Cii tell me what MB size ranges the 3 Lossless Compressed sizes are when it comes to brackets?
Could someone fire a quick test? Shoot 3 brackets 2 stops apart with the Lossless Compressed L, M, and S and tell me those numbers?
