Thank you so much Dunna for the very helpful and informative review of Sony A7CII, learnt a lot! God bless and good luck!
Great review!! It Answered my questions! Thank you! It’ll be my first ff digital camera soon.
Nice review. Well presented.
Thanks for this dunna, always the best
As always Bro great review and info..... I have the A7IV and picked up the A6700 to be more of a grab and run with. So for now I can't see myself upgrading anytime soon. Big fan of this channel bro please keep the cool content rolling in. 🤘
Great review mate. The best of the bunch.
Yoo the camera quality is insane and the videography that you've done is too good man
Thanks so much!
Best review yet, this has helped me make my decision and I will definitely be purchasing this camera now. Thank you!
Glad to hear it was helpful!
same here, all i'm waiting for is the new 24-50mm 2.8 to get a nice light combo
best review hands on, no nonsense, straight to the point, facts, etc. Thanks dude
I appreciate it!
It's compact, slap big lens on it😅 like i hope he recommend some decent compact lens to justify buying this over other series.
Been waiting for you review! Appreciate all the work you do. For some of us, it’s a lot of money to consider an upgrade and you do very well and allowing us to get the most information to help us decide. Thank you 🤙🏾
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate that a lot!
Thank you -- concise, infromative -- one of the best vids I've seen! The choice is all so bewildering. At a push, if you had to choose one, would you opt for this or the A74?
Great breakdown!
Thanks dude! Gonna buy one?
perfect content. thank you
Cool vid thanks! Subbed.
So. Many. Options. Super impressed by this little guy
Right?! The lineup just keeps getting bigger and bigger!
Thanks for your video. I'm always happy to see a new video coming from you. It's a tough decision to think about upgrading my A7c. What would you recommend? The 33 Mpx Sensor would be a great benefit as well as the new wheel to change S or A.
I am in the same boat but will upgrade asap. New front dial, better grip, better viewfinder, better autofocus, better IBIS, better menu system, AI chip, importing LUTS, more resolution and S-Cinetone!! Not a bad upgrade 😉
On paper the 7II seems perfect for me. Travel friendly, full featured, full frame and right size (33mb).
Thanks for a nice overview! Been really contemplating the A7IV but, with the decreased price and increased features of the A7CII thinking it may be my next purchase. One thing that confused me a bit, 7:19 you mention the screen flip, but is the B-roll of the screen flipping around from the A7CII or the A7RV?
When you're seeing my hands doing the swivel screen that's the a7cii. The shot from sony when I'm saying "we didn't get the swivel and tilt screen from the a7rv" that's the a7rv screen and NOT the a7cii. I can totally see the confusion on that one, it goes by pretty quick!
Thank you for your very good video. Why did you mention the micro hdmi port as a problem? I would be very grateful if you could explain what is the advantage of the large HDMI port over this micro port.
Great review and comments. I have the sony A7Riv and maily do wildlife and birds and what do you think in regard to trading for this verses the A7iv or even the a6700. All those new cameras seem to have better birn ect autofusus and tracking. Have you tried this on any wildife ect? thanks
currently have this camera. my goodness, ive never had so many keeper shots on sports (basketball). im using the sony 70-200 f2.8 m2 and its like you're on a cheatcode. never missed a beat.
That lens is STUPID GOOD.
Is it time for a new APC -FF comparison between the A6700 and A7CII? I would love to hear your thoughts.
What about the EVF? I'm planning to go for de 7CII from my A7III, could you compare them ?
My question is that if I buy A7Cmark 2, will I be able to rely on the view finder to the point where I would not need to use LCD screen to make changes? I have hard time reading fine print from that close. If I need to use LCD, than I rather get ZVE1.
What do I miss out on when buying the A7C vs the full big ones?
Great video. I'm a traveler and lightweight is great, for this is a good step up from my A7III. However Dunna, I don't find YT videos combining this A7cII with the recommended lightweight lenses to travel easy! Could you give us one please?
In July, I bought the OG A7C with the Sony 20-70mm lens. I knew at some point this Mark II was going to be released and wondered if I was going to have a bunch of buyers remorse for not waiting. I am happy I didn't wait. I've been so so happy with the A7C having upgraded from the A6500 that I was using since 2018. I'll wait a year or so and consider upgrading again, but I don't think this Mark II is drastic enough to make the jump or regret my choice.
Thanks!
So glad to hear you made the call and you’re happy!
Great Video!! I was gonna pick up a a7IV but I'm leaning more and more towards the a7CII because of the size. Even tough its not really that much smaller that the a7IV
Can you shoot bracketed exposures with the fully electronic shutter?
Bought it a month ago and I have to say that its incredible. Have to say that my previous camera was a Canon 5D M2.
Great review as always Dunna! Excited to get this camera to replace my A7IV. I don't do pro shoots but I love the specs of the A7IV and the A7cII is perfect for my use cases.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful for you!
Doing same. Trading IV for cii. I don’t like the fact that iv overheats and shuts off without warning. Plus I think the cii autofocus and ai features makes it a huge step up plus having the zv-e1, I love the touch screen. Overall I see it as a step up since I don’t need the double card slots
Oh yeah importing luts is huge
Thank you!!
hi may i know which lightroom version that could handle raw edit for the sony a7cii
does the sony a7cii heat up and shut down when recording at 4k60fps?
I picked up the a6700 - fabulous!
i am going to go for ac7II as i was waiting for it since 4 months ... i am shooting mainly documentary and landscape , a7cR will be too heavy for my PC , mainly i am printing up to A3+ sizes prints
I'm holding out with my a7iii still, waiting for the a7v next year hopefully. If I had to pick any camera out right now for video on a budget, it would be the ZV -E1 at the moment.
I think thats a great way to do things! And the ZV-E1 is solid!
Zv-e1 is amazing
long story short : when shooting in s&q mode 4k60p it saves the slow motion file on my card, i don't have to slow down the clip in post production?
with crop but 4k, correct?
What about the absence of dual base iso in 7cii? That matters a lot for some people
Would be pretty cool if there was auto framing for vertical 9:16 (maybe a dual-rec function or something)
This is a friggin fantastic idea!
They just need to unlock open gate
Really wondering how this would stack up against the Panasonic S5ii as a hybrid shooter. Especially regarding autofocus...
Hello, great video...I'm still hesitating between the A7IV and the A7CII. I want to become a pro but I'm new.(it's new for me).
Would of loved it if I had one. I'm still using my a6400 though! Nice video man!
What lens is used for this video? And does a7C ii support 4k 60fps HDR video?
Does anyone know if you can use user luts for photos with the a7cii (just like the fx30)
Hello if I buy the Sony a7c they have program anti-thief or if I lost it they can find it if someone has going to open it?
How would you compare this with canon r8, just for personal everyday use.
I plan on starting a youtube channel. I m torn between this and the sony zv-e1. Which one should i get?
does this have the ability to use a remote trigger that will fire off camera flashes?
I don’t think so, but is there an external recording option that would be a solution to the single card slot issue? I still think it looks like a great camera.
You could record externally via the hdmi but that’s about it.
So quality wise it's similar or even better than the A 7iv you'd say?
Hi, would you prefer this camera to the Sony ZV E1 in terms of photo and video quality?
The shutter mechanism of a7cii is same as a7c? I mean, i have seen a lot of shutter failures on a7iv so I’m worried to buy a7cii now
How di we shoot all intra on this cam? Doesn’t support cf express type a tho
Thanks Dunna!I have the a7siii as my main run and gun camera but sometimes I use my A7C as my 2nd angle on a 2 camera shoot but thinking of upgrading to this new model. Lots of improvements as well as S-Cinetone which I use a lot and you didn’t mention. I could then have the same look on both cameras using 10 bit 422 and Cinetone. I have to come up with another $800 though… (Canadian) What say you?
I think YOU just convinced ME haha. I think the a7c → a7cii upgrade is defintiely worth it!
A7cii or a6700? I mostly do video creation outdoors, but want to get into photography too.
as someone that's just getting into professional work and has the orignial A7C this makes it so hard to choose! I have never had an SD card fail on me yet and the better Autofocus etc seems more appealing that having the backup SD card. But all professionals seem to 'need' to have the back up. I've got no idea what to do!
Thats a tricky one! The extra card slot is kind of like having insurance... you don't need it until you do, but you're glad you have it at that point. As for autofocus, I would be lying if I said I didn't wish all of my personal cameras had the ai chip (FX3, A1, A7IV) but the autofocus on all of those cameras is also still pretty great.
Thanks @@dunnadidit I apprecaite your reply, essentially I know I'll love either camera which in a way makes it harder haha!
When I'm shooting weddings and stuff I am really used to have 2 cards but actually never happened anything bad so I might not need the second slot- but anyway I have more options with it. The main issue I would have with this cam is the viewfinder and yes although the autofocus might be better for me right now my A7III is alright and for Christmas I might buy myself a A7IV.
you'll be kicking yourself when you're shooting a wedding and have a card failure and lose everything. There's a reason all the pros use dual cards for redundancy. I would never use this cam in a professional setting, but for personal photography, travel, etc I think it's perfect!!
If it's missing the focus joystick, do you have to use the touch screen to move the focus point around then? I was heavily considering this camera up until that one thing. I almost exclusively use the EVF to shoot, and having to take the camera away to adjust focus points will be a pain
A bit late to maybe tell you this, but you can set up the screen as a touch pad and use your thumb to move the focus point whilst still keeping your eye up to the viewfinder. Always been my preferred method of moving the focus point on a number of cameras where available, in fact I wouldn't buy a camera where this wasn't an option.
Great video...debating on selling my a74 to get this just for the form factor. Not a pro so dont need the dual card slots or the other things you mentioned. Thanks for the video. 👍
My pleasure! I'm glad the video was helpful!
What are your thoughts between the A7IV and A7CII? I currently have an A7IV and need a second camera. I love the compactness of the A7CII for travel and everyday shooting, but I worry about the single card slot and possible overheating when compared to the A7IV. Please let me know your thoughts!
Which present do you use to make dark photo to bright and detailed quality?
Which all in one lens would you recommend for this camera
Can I load false colour on this camera from the Sony app?
Gimbal with Steadyshot ON or OFF ?? Wich is the best option
I am trying to open A7C ii raw photos on the Mac. However, preview or photos app doesn't support it. Is anyone experiencing the similar issues? Thanks
I currently have an a7ii, and the a7cii seems very appealing. Seems to be the best bang for the buck as I shoot mainly photography as a hobby, and don't need the higher end features the R line offers or dual card slots. The new AI autofocus looks extremely useful above all. This plus a compact lens would be amazing for travel too!
Did you end up going for it? I have the a7ii and am mostly a photographer but doing more video. A7c ii looks great but not sure about the EVF...
@@gw2038 I actually just got it today and it is amazing so far. I paired it with the Sony 50mm f/2.5 and it’s hard to believe this is a full frame camera. The EVF not being over the lens is not a big deal to me, and it is plenty good for my needs
Please do a comparison video between the a6700 and the a7Cii pretty, pretty please!!!
J'aime tellement t'es vidéos😊
Merci beaucoup!
Est-ce que tu parles vraiment le Français? Je suis un francophone d’Edmonton mais toi aussi oui? Je sais que tu as déménager ailleurs. Vancouver??
Anyhow you are at the very top of my list of CZcamsrs with Gerald of course!! Many thanks for you awesome videos!!!
👏👏👏👏
Debating between a7c II or a7 IV
I don’t care about cII only having one sd card slot.
Which do you think would be best in the long run to grow into it (amateur skill right now) will use for photography and video
I already have the 6700, a7iv, and a rx100vii, but am getting ready for an Italy trip and want to travel light, but use the FF g prime 24mm and 40mm lenses. I got this to travel with those and will keep to rx100 ready for other shots. Can't wait to try it out and get some great shots.
Great review, although I'm not sure I'd call a center EVF "more professional." SOME of us (LOL) are old enough to have shot real film on Leicas and other rangefinder cameras, and not having to squash your nose against the back of the camera can be a plus, not a minus. Still trying to decide whether I want the CII or the CR, though.
Haha thats a great point. My wording was a little wonky there that made it seem like the center evf was what I was referring to being professional... what I meant was that the more professional sony bodies typically have center evf's... gotta edit my scripts a bit closer next time haha.
A7C II all day
@@JesusChristSaves.why ACii ? I am trying to decide . Video not important for me
@Chris-13 Honestly theirs some drawbacks from the A7CR if you look into it on youtube, and the A7CII has a great 33mp sensor, with blazing fast autofocus, a great system with a new chip in it, that takes amazing photos, even the JPEGs strait outta the camera are wonderful! PLUS - if you need to use video, even at some point, you have that perfect hybrid of a camera. I am more of a photographer than I am videographer, and I would still lean towards the A7C II all day and I've rented the A7CR - and don't get me wrong, it's not horrible, but if I had to choose which one, it would definitely be the A7C II. It's great, fast, smart, reliable, great sensor, wonderful photos, even JPegs. And is the overall better camera. Don't let the (more megapixels the better) thing trip you up. That's not necessarily true, not to mention if you take 500 RAW photos with the A7C II - and take 500 RAW photos with the A7C R - your file sizes are gonna be way bigger to work with compared to just getting the A7C II with the 33mp sensor (and AI as well as other great features that you can mess with the highlights, shadows, sharpness, and everything you would do in post, in the camera) PLUS you have that option of the video, which is still gonna be a lot better than the A7C R, especially in low light cause of the less megapixels. Trust me man, you won't be disappointed
@@JesusChristSaves. thank you for the detailed reply . I think I agree with you . I don’t really need or want the 60mp files .
The attraction was to be able to use it as a single lens camera and crop in rather than carrying lenses as a holiday / every day type of thing ? 🙏🙏
Can false colour settings be installed on this camera?
Which of the Sony lineup is best for photography over video? I don't see myself using video as much would like something that is more centered towards photography.
The a7cr, a7rv and a1 are more photo centric cameras.
How's the buffer ?
going from a Canon 750D to either Sony A7CII or A7IV , hard choice, doing mostly wildlife photos , what should i go for ?
Nothing more nothing less. Still covered everything. Appreciated ❤
Might be a little bit of a rookie question here, but how do you move the focus point with no joystick? Is it all touch/auto focus? Or can you change the dial on the back of the camera to move the focus points?
Coming in my video next week! But you can use the touchscreen as a joystick while using the evf! There’s just a setting you need to enable! (Of course at this moment I can’t remember exactly what it’s called)
does a7cii have sensor cover ...??
Don't understand the cripple hammer on view finder and lcd resolution 😢
Does the 4K60fps cropped mode on the A7cII reduces and affects its lowlight capabilities or is it just a frame crop? Cause im still battling between getting the a6700 (coming from a ZVE10) or getting the a7Cii to move to full frame and make it worthy the extra money. But if the 4k60fps of the a7cii is gonna perform the same as the 4k60fps of the a6700 in terms of low light no point in putting the extra cash for the a7cii.
It's just a frame crop! It doesn't affect the light transmission at all.
@@dunnadidit, to add to you.
I think the FF crops the FOV (field of view) by 1.5, but the EFL (effective focal length) is still 1.0. Hence why you don’t lose one stop of light as you would with APSC cams.
In the stabilization better than the original a7c?
I'm surprised you didn't mention the viewfinder... I hope it's better than the barely usable one in the A7C!
Sony A7cii having any kind of heating issues?
Because of, sony a7M4 is generating more heat.
For Wedding Photography and videography purpose..
Can't believe Sony didn't do Focus stacking IN camera. Come on Sony the processing power should be well sufficient to do post focus bracket shots while idle.
In my place, center EFV and dual card slot is not a thing to look like a professional 😅 what matters is especially in video it can perform slog in high resolution without overheating and has 33MP for photos. Everything then can be work on post. Great review though 👍
Loved that seal that was looking at you!
Haha yeah they were eyeing me up!
I upgraded from the original A7c. Color grading the 8 bit images was not my favorite thins, and the image stabilization were the clinchers for me. I am a hobbiest, not a professional.
Hey Dunna! As a hybrid creator, how much storage for memory card would you use for the A7Cii since it only has one card slot?
It kind of depends on what video codecs you want to shoot and how long you go between dumping footage/photos. I generally seem to like either 128 or 256gb and I never have a problem. And since I use my dual cards as simultaneous, I don’t actually have any more storage than just one slot
@@dunnadidit thank you so much! I really do appreciate how you answer questions in the comment section. Definitely top Canadian CZcamsr!
I think they missed the modes "Granny under candle light", "Mushroom in the mist", "Fire crackers", "Sailing boat" , "Car race" and many more ! How can we do without these ????
Well, the only problem I have with this one is deciding if should I go for a silver or a black one. 😅
Context is a great theme here. Mine is an affordable fourth studio camera angle for a two person podcast and potential livestream with apparently less overheating risk than the ZV E1 plus the option to do some outside vlogging paired up with the 20mm 1.8 G. That’s my definition of hybrid unless someone teaches me photography 😂
This vs the a6700 please
A7C II with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 for 4K60 and the Tamron 17-50mm f4.0 (rumored) or Sony 20-70 f4.0 for photos when travelling 🙃
😤😤😤
The new tech is tempting but a full size EVF and dual card slots are a requirement for my style of shooting. For now I’ll stick with the a7IV & a7III but if they release an a7V with the new AI chip plus uncropped 4K60 I’m a buyer.
I hear you there! I love the small form factor for certain things but I think I prefer the few trade offs to get the more pro features myself.
This maybe a dumb question but does this camera also shoot 4K photos? I’m seeing it does 4K video but I’m not hearing much for photos besides that it’s high quality.
Hey! Great question! Photos aren’t typically thought of in that way, but it is much more resolution than 4k in the end. To shoot 4k, you need about 12 megapixels. This camera has 30 megapixels so you’ve got a lot more than what you would need to make a 4k image.
For a more clear number, 4k is 3840x2160. The max resolution of the a7iv for photos is 7008 x 4672.
@@dunnadidit got it!! That actually helps a lot!! Thank you!
great video sample, what lens?
Mostly the Tamron 35-150
So I have the A7CII but thought maybe should have went for the A7CR..but people keep telling me video is not as good on the CR 🤔
They’re not wrong! There are a few things that can cause issues with higher megapixel cameras for video. First of all, to get 4k or 1080, there are processes that downscale the resolution, the more pixels you have and have to downscale, the more possibility for problems and artifacts. Sony does a really good job with this but it is still there. Secondly, when you have high megapixel readouts like that, the sensor can read out slower, causing some rolling shutter issues. Not sure specifically how the cr does in that category but that COULD be something to consider.
@dunnadidit thank you for the reply .. I have the A7CII...just curious if it was worth an exchange for the CR...seems to be a give and take between them lol
Honestly, if you're happy with what you're getting from the CII, I'd save the money. The only real reason to go for the CR is for the extra resolution in photos, but for most people 30MP is more than enough.
I did a skeptic review prior to the cameras being announced and I too, recommended the A7IV for more pro-features. Glad to see you did the same! Also, I love Sony, but I'm a little annoyed with all the releases - if anything, I feel it confuses the casual/beginner photographers + videographers. They should slow it down a bit.
I’ll trade the iv for this. This is a step up
9:00 is there a way to change those buttons?
Unfortunately, I don't still have the camera, but I don't think there was a way to change it.
@@dunnadidit aww, that's such a Sony move. same with the "For EVF" display page. wasted potential
