Poilievre slams Trudeau government for "woke hypocrisy"

- Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault passionately argued for a price on pollution during question period in the House of Commons on Thursday, saying that “If woke means standing up for the future of my children and grandchildren so that they have access to clean air and clean water - then so be it.”
“He’s woke and so Canadians are broke,” replied Opposition leader Pierre Poilievre. “I’ll tell you what woke means in practice: His government approved dumping millions of litres of raw sewage into the St. Lawrence River, that’s what woke means. Woke means charging a single mom higher costs to drive to work and feed her kids while the prime minister jets around using Canadian tax dollars to pump emissions into our atmosphere - that is the woke hypocrisy across the way,” Poilievre continued.
Conservatives and Liberals also clashed over the new design of the new Canadian passport, which was revealed on Wednesday. Conservative MP John Nator asked why images of Terry Fox, Vimy Ridge and Nellie McClung, which were all in the previous iteration of the passport, were removed by the new design. “Why is this Liberal government so intent on erasing Canadian history from our passport?" Nator asked.
Karina Gould, the minister for families, replied to Nator saying “This is emblematic of how the Conservatives acted when they were in government - they spent more time on symbols than on action,” Gould said. She also added that “When the Terry Fox statue was desecrated, what did [the Conservatives] do? They cheered on the convoy,” she argued.

Maybe read up on Sweden's experience with them since 1991. That and other emissions reducing protocols they've worked with over the years. To the point where they are a couple years away from being a 'zero emissions' country. Thank goodness Mr. PP is happy to tell you what to think! But again, thats a PROVINCIAL tax. The feds only said we have to price carbon. A cap and trade system is what handled acid rain and every province was free to do that. The liberals in ontario had it, Doug Ford killed it and taxed consumers instead and got MORE votes the next time.
Quebec has a cap and trade and so the carbon tax is frozen at four percent.
The big issue is that EVERY country now prices carbon. Which means when Pollievre cancels it and claims 'technology' will be used instead, then all our trading partners are going to likely have something to say about it.

Steve, our largest trading partner doesn't have a Federal Carbon Tax but that being said because Canada's emissions are so miniscule (1'2% of world emissions) that strangling Canadians with tyrannical levels of carbon taxes will have miniscule results it probably makes more sense to do other things like invest in technologies that along with LNG could be exported to countries where noticeable differences could be achieved.
@@jeffspicolli593 The US has a much higher PRICE on carbon than we do by investing heavily in green infrastructure. And right now they are investing SO heavily that it counts as a tax much higher than our carbon tax.
As for options, there is no such thing as 'technology', that doesn't even make sense. What you are suggesting is that WE should pay through our taxes..wait, what....for oil companies upgrades.
So whats the difference between Pollievre giving billions to oil companies for them to buy new technology and a carbon tax. The difference is that right now poor canadians get a rebate, or did before our province stole it.
What makes more sense of course is a cap and trade program, which ALL provinces were free to take, and only one province did.
Want to know who elses emissions are tiny? Lichtenstein. But they still price carbon. How about Jordan. Virtually NO emissions but they have a carbon market that makes us look like the third world.
There is only ONE taxpayer. So Pollievres 'we should invest in technology' is first of all what the carbon tax is all about.
And for point of reference, we shouldn'te ven TALK about Canada, becaues the ONLY province where emissions haven't gone down in the past twenty years is Alberta.
So if anything ONLY Alberta should be payign the tax, which would be the most fair, because thats a province that refuses to even have a provincial sales tax. Despite having gotten more federal money for the past three years than ANY other province, including Quebec.

So, Your first problem would be implementing some kind of safe online voting model that could not be abuse-able absent a government, How would you even know whom had a vote without some kind of government structure. What would they be voting on?
Then a problem would be internet connect-ability. There are as of March of this year still 1.4 million homes in Canada without access to internet, and this is worse in rural area's. and without government regulations... There would likely be a lot more people unable to pay for internet.
Then there is stuff the government does... like checking your food and water is safe, or a lot of people would die. Money would become pretty much worthless without the National bank. Making those that had hoarded it very unhappy. Laws, personal rights, property... pretty much all gone, and even if by some extremely unlikely chance it actually works. American's (and other foreign interests) looking to exploit Canada for their own benefit.
Democracy is really not compatible with anarchy in any permeable way. Then again Capitalism is not really compatible either when you think about it, as those with wealth have a much greater say than their singular vote would have otherwise done.
