Conservatives blast Liberals for “ArriveSCAM” app after scathing AG report

- Speaking during question period on Monday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and other Conservative MPs accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of spending “over $60 million on an ArriveSCAM app that we didn't need [and] didn't work.” Poilievre’s comments came after the release of an Auditor General report on the controversial ArriveCAN app, which was introduced in April 2020 as a way to manage travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc responded by saying that “The moment there were allegations around cost overruns or inappropriate contracting practices, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) immediately began an internal audit and made the appropriate referrals to the appropriate authorities. We take the obligation to manage taxpayers' money very seriously.”
Minister of Public Services Jean-Yves Duclos added that some of the report's recommendations have already been or will soon be implemented, and that the federal government is “fully committed to continuing to ensure that contracts are deliver in a fair, efficient and transparent manner.”
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also criticized the development of the ArriveCAN app, accusing the Liberal government of making “garbage decisions” on an app that “no one uses” while “Canadians are struggling with their groceries and their rent.”

Even incredibly poor project management would have flagged issues once the spending hit $1.0mm. Yet nothing came to light until the price tag ballooned into the stratosphere. This is incompetence at the Gold Medal level. Had this travestry occurred in the private sector, the CEO and several other executives would be on the streets. Perhaps this is why Mr. Trudeau avoided the private sector as he couldn't deal with the accountability.
This entire bid and tender process is already in place and has been for years. They circumvented the system and committed fraud. They should be charged and assets should be seized. We want our money back.

Here’s a radical idea. If a product doesn’t work why not return it for a refund? The refund can go to Canadians in the form of a cheque.

I don’t know about anyone else in the comments section but if I set aside $1000 dollars to get a water heater or $15 000 to get new windows or even $15 for a Big Mac combo the second it comes in $1 over I’m asking questions .
I worked in government contracts when I 20 years old as in house movers/cubicle builders. My boss made a bid for the contract but this contract was slightly different that a construction bid.
Every year around February would be our busiest time . Every division from Public Works , CRA , passports , Canada customs etc in the building would need complete remodels of as much as their budget would allow and purposely go over budget so they could justify not only the amount of their budget but prove they needed an increase the next year.
It doesn’t matter who is “in power” every side of the political spectrum has only one goal ……

We should all refuse to pay taxes. That is the first step. I never understood. Our income gets maximum taxation every pay period. Whatever is left is still taxed on every other expense. Yet we file our taxes and most times don't get back anything. They will let you know you actually owe the CRA. It just keeps getting worse.
