Poilievre demands Trudeau expel Chinese diplomat involved in alleged threats to Tory MP's family

- Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre demanded that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expel a Chinese diplomat who was involved, according to reporting by The Globe and Mail, in an alleged plan to target Conservative MP Michael Chong and his family.
The Globe and Mail cited a top-secret document and an anonymous national security source in its report that China’s intelligence service sought to target the MP and his family and that a Chinese diplomat who remains in Canada was involved.
Chong, a former cabinet minister who currently serves as the Tories’ foreign affairs critic, voted in favour of a motion that condemned as genocide China’s treatment of its minority Uyghur population.
Trudeau said it was “absolutely unacceptable” for a Canadian to “threatened by a foreign power” and said he had asked officials to follow up on the reports and to reach out to Chong.
“Members of Parliament can’t vote in the interest of Canada while their family members are threatened as consequence of those votes,” Poilievre said, adding that Trudeau’s government had produced a briefing note two years ago on the threats Chong and his family faced.
“The same diplomat that orchestrated these threats against the MPs family still works in the Toronto consulate of Beijing… will he expel him today?” he asked.
Chong has said that he and his family were never briefed by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and that he believes Trudeau’s government never authorized such a warning.

China is a huge trading partner with Canada. The last time Trudeau attacked them head on, they stopped buying our agricultural products and that hurt many industries here at home. Voters don’t seem to recognize that Pierre clearly has a Canada based goal whereas Trudeau and Singh are eyeing their seats on some world governing organizations. Canada is their springboard whereas PP, love him or hate him, sees a better Canada as his personal endgame. Politicians will always have selfish motivation. It’s your duty as a Canadian to pick the one who’s self-interested goal aligns with what’s best for the country. There is zero debate about who in the House of Commons represents that goal. It’s PP. And to be honest I don’t think he can do half of what he talks about. But he can stop at least some of the bleeding and reel in our currently reprehensible government.
I am a card carrying Liberal. Not the biggest fan of Trudeau. Never have been. I don't agree with the majority of Conservative policies. However, with that being said, Trudeau's lack of strong leadership on this issue (Chinese foreign interference) as well as the return of ISIS fighters will be his undoing.
I also believe that the Conservatives have found a leader who "looks" and contorts himself in the mold of a Prime Minister. If they keep the social conservative wing of their party quiet (which Harper always did), this could be a Conservative landslide.
I can honestly say, I am torn. I have never been a single issue voter. But goddamn if I'm going to let my fellow citizens be bullied or their families threatened. Especially an MP! If we don't stand up for our leaders safety then we expose our weakness.
