  • Have you heard that without PLAB, you won't get GMC registration? In order to work as a doctor in the UK, international medical graduates (IMGs) have many options available to them. One of the least known routes is via the medical training initiative (MTI).
Dr. Ibreez takes you through how to apply, where to apply, what MTI means, what certificate it gives you, and more.

    Hi Doctor,
I am looking to persue Psychiatry in the UK. I completed my MBBS in 2021 along with my internship of 1 year in India. I'm registered and working as a Junior Resident Doctor since then. (2 years)
I want to persue Psychiatry. PLAB isnt an option because I have to wait for exam slots to open till 2025.
What would be the best way for me to get a GMC registeration done quickly? I want to take the MRCPsych paper A too and persue Psychiatry in UK. Even Become a sub- specialist in Forensic Psychiatry.
What route should I take? The sponsorship or MTI?
I have all relevant documents and an IELTS score of 7.5
Please please please respond, I really need your help. 🙏

It comes with its requirements: from what I've heard, you should have no employment gaps, you must pass the first part of the relevant royal college exam in the first attempt, your country's government may play a role to release you for this training if they deem it as an area of need......I don't know how strict these rules may be... I've read on your website that for MTI You must have been in clinical practice for 3 out of the last 5 years including the 12 months prior to GMC registration having being granted.
I'm little confused about this, if I was in practice for 2yrs, then have a gap of 1yr for maternity reasons then resume work for another 1yr while I write the mrcp1 and later go on to apply for the MTI, will I still be eligible?
