Wonder why journalists are not asking tough questions to Dulat.
    1. In 1990, there was significant reports that the kidnapping of Rubiya Sayed was stagemanaged. The incident was used by Mufti to release many hardened terrorists who later executed the ISI policy to cleanse the valley of Kashmiri Pundits. Dulat plays the Mehbooba song of blaming Jagmohan but does not even mention the trigger.
    2. He mentions Robin Raphael but not the question of her being an ISI agent in Washington. Apparently, she needed a Presidential pardon to stop investigation into her assets and their finances as much was preliminarily traced to ISI.
    3. Dulat comes across as a Musharaff admirer. Musharaff only kept traping Indian governments into giving unilateral concessions while continuing to support terrorism. He was finally forced out by the Americans funding his removal protests due to his policy of clandestinely supporting terror while accepting American funds to fight terror.

Absolutely agree. He hides all blunders, communalization of valley society, Kashmiri civil society's romance with terrorism, shameful horrible collaboration with terrorist in ethnic cleansing of KPs. He gives clean chit to muftis and infatuated with Abdullas. He also gives clean chit to ISI for its role in KP driving out of valley. The sheer ungrateful nature of Kashmiri valley who quietly loot excessive Central help and are always alienated and biting theb hand that fed them. J&K contribution to national income but received maximum aid and still hate Indians. The Danda given by NSA Dival was badly needed to drill sanity in this society.

for people at the highest and secretive positions, there are no favorites. they will observe and learn from everyone - mushraff, the americans, etc. mushraff won his game against india even if they didnt win too much territory - they took lives and once more exposed the stupidity of the indian intelligentsia largely stifled by spineless politicians and inadequate resources in a world env. that was hostile to india - it was the 80's and 90's , before the sw boom and liberalization that got in intl biz into the country. and yes - the indian crab mentality never goes away AND his own admission of being 'operational incompetent'!

We really don't know what you mean by stellar career. Mr Dulat was IB's man in Kashmir when exodus of kashmiri pandits happened. He was IB's special director and incharge of Pak desk when kargil happened. He was R&AW chief when kandhar hijacking happened. And he was in PMO when parliament attack happened. Don't you feel there is too much of coincidence.

    1. AD is mking a serious point that our counter intelligence may be not up to the mark now. We have so many foreign funded anti national initiatives going on with the help of 'jaichands' in our country and somehow IB or RAW or military intelligence is clue less. 2. AD is no doubt Abdullah 'chmacha' and one wonders he himself was a security risk!! Pravin asks him questions phrased very politely but the point is the same- he was favoring secessionists rather than hard action. He was chasing chimera that Pakistan will mend its ways and secessionist Kashmiris will give up anti India feelings. 3. Pravin bowls a google to Dulat when he asks him if he would write a book on what he did in Kashmir!! Perhaps that itself could be a spook played on us.

Currently i am reading the book of AS Dulat
As much as I appreciate him on his detailing on the major issues of the 80s and 90s especially how India lost control over kathmandu due to the negligence of Indian government, I think he has a rather soft corner for pakistan. As much as I have respect for him but his way of whitewashing pakistan's image is kinda pissing me off.
He also criticized the rather hadline approach by the current government's way of controlling militancy in kashmir. According to him militants and terrorists should be used for gathering intelligence and not executed, but we have to understand this firm policy of the previous government's was a major setback which eventually resulted in increase of militancy.
We haven't heard of any major militancy in kashmir valley since many years and I appreciate the current government's approach towards that.
And I also thank AS Dulat for his point of views as well it helped me to understand what were actually the issues that caused the insurgencies on that time
