The delight in your face when you talk about the gore is a vibe lol....this looks like a fun watch!
Favorite movie of the year. The pure AWE i felt in the middle portion of this film really is indescribable. Its not perfect but the things we love never are.
I have the popcorn 🍿 & cherry 🍒 coke 🥤 ready for this Emma 😊 ! Thanks for the in depth review.
Geez, I'm seriously hyped just hearing how much effort was poured into this. Like the sound of it. 🤔🥺
I love Dev Patel. He is such an attractive man and sweetheart. Can't wait to support him
Went to the same screening as you!! 🙏🏽 I do agree! The film does have its issues but the final act was brutally good!! Definitely ended on a high note! Not the perfect movie but Devs passion truly shows in this movie. 7.5/10
Oh amazing! Cool to see you here also then!
I too have loved Dev forever and was very excited to support this film! I actually got to see it on (its opening) Saturday and it was SO good! I loved it. Had fever dreams about it(which is a positive from me, my favorite movies give me that) I totally know what you mean about the middle, for me it worked because I wanted the exposition by that point. But that is not something I think most people will jive with as well as I did. I LOVED the action and gore! If a movie can make me say “ow” and wince, it’s good in my book. Especially if it has a good story going with it! The action was just technically so good the short of him in the alley after his “panic attack” was just chefs kiss!
I love the passion you have for movies and the incredible community you've built on youtube. Wishing for your continuous success in everything you do..❤❤
Thank you so much
Definitely watching this in Dubai next week insha'Allah
i love violent martial arts movies! and yeah, i hate the the constant John Wick comparisons to anything action as well.
Id highly recommend The Raid 1&2, they got me into action. beautiful and brutal, and some gnarly injuries and kills. and 2 could straight up get a dead meat kill count wth how gory it gets, its pure kino
The Night Comes For Us is another gem
@@adamstrachn that movie is an edgy gorefest and i love it. and its so cool to see Iko as an antagonist. gotta get a bootleg bluray sometime
Thank you for another in depth review. I had been keeping my eyes on this since I first heard that Jordan Peele picked it up. I'm glad to hear it's not just "another John Wick movie". There are plenty of ways to film action choreography outside of that particular style. Sound good enough for me. I'll be giving it a watch :)
I wasn't expecting a review from you for this movie so thanks a huge bunch for sharing your experience with us. I dig your honest reviews. You rock!
I apreciated the back story to how this film was made so I kinda wanted to like the movie. Dave Patel is also a likeable person. Cool fighting! 7.7 Stars! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
You rock! Thanks from Colorado for your great reviews!!
Emma am going to watch monkey man in theater imax 3D tonight
G'day Emma, it's actually rated MA15+ not R18+, sorry to comment this but had to be sure.
If Dev Patel is involved I’m in! And I too enjoy sooo much your love of gore 😂
I think we're going to see this on the big screen.
I didn’t like how the camera was like always zoomed in
I mentioned the same thing in my review as well.
I was super excited to see this after the trailer. Definitely had some hiccups like you said about flow and he could have cut 10-15 minutes but the action scenes were brutally impressive and I enjoyed the risks taken.
I loved this movie sm, my fave of 2024 so far. When love lies bleeding finally reaches the uk it will probably be topped tho
can't wait to watch it!
Good review and cool video Emma!👉🙂👈
Great review 😊
I remember going to a Hoyts cinema when I lived in Sydney............ahhh memories☺☺, looking forward to seeing this film .
I trust you that this is definitely a cinema watch, gonna use my self care day off to watch it! Thank you as always !
I'm so excited for this movie
I think I felt the same, really enjoyed it, thought it sagged a little in the middle. I also thought he might have picked up a few cinematography tips from shooting Slumdog Millionaire because it had that Danny Boyle style to the filming. I was surprised how overtly political it was. There's a nice article from The Warp that looks at the presumed reasons why Netflix had to drop the film before Peele picked it up and why they had to change the colour of the fictional political party from orange to red... I thought it would be more subtextual but it's like... the actual plot 😆
I love Monkey Man. It's my favourite film
I won't give it away by naming this individual, although they might be shown in the trailer or mentioned as part of the press hype, but there's a certain cameo appearance that comes in during a crucial transitional sequence in the film which really energized me & made an otherwise decent movie experience all the more special and rewarding. Probably not immediately recognizable or necessarily known to everyone, but I think alot of musicians & specifically drummers will be really moved and excited to see/hear this sequence. Much of the musical choices & editing are a huge part of what solidifies the tone and pace which ultimately creates something unique.
you put a smile on my face when you talk about the gore lmao it was such a mood
This movie was not on my radar but after your review I can't wait to see it.
I'm so excited for this
could it be compared to The Northman in being "not quite" a revenge movie until it's a revenge movie?
so ready for this movieeeeeee
I can't wait to check this out.......,
So looking forward to seeing this
It's only MA here though?
I was split on the "shaky cam", I liked the idea of having a stuntman following with a camera, but I don't feel like it's something that can be fully utilised if the stunt person still has to hold the camera while trying to move. I loved the rest of the movie though.
10:00 👀
Saw an early access screening a little while ago, and I enjoyed it overall. It was gory, action-packed, and breathtaking. But, I found the way the story was told to be very sloppy, things were not revealed as quickly as it should’ve and was just a bit hard to follow at times. I went in completely blind, not even really knowing the genre and I might've missed something so let me know if i am, but the first action scene I was so confused because his motivations wasn't established yet and it felt weird not knowing exactly who to root for, and I chalk that up to the writing not being very good at times (more of the writers not really knowing when to establish things at the right time). Other than that, it was a great action movie that also had a lot to analyze. I just wish that the plot was written/executed in a different way than it was.
I enjoyed this movie but it needed to be tightened up a bit. Maybe cut 15 to 20 minutes at least. I don't think we needed quite as many memory/flashbacks.
I heard this movie didn't really have a lot of action in it, but I'll give it a try.
Ooh a 7. I have to agree. I would say if you are doing the, for an action movie… then I would give it an 8 but against all movies I think 7 is right.
Is the gore practical or cgi?
Its sad that Monkey Man won't be allowed to release in India because of the movie's subtle criticisms of ruling government.
🐒🧍♂️
I didn't enjoy this one. I imagine it would be hard to come up with an original action/revenge film, but this felt like it didn't even try. 3/10 originality at best.
Dev certainly put the work in and looked the part though, and his passion for the project definitely came through.
This movie was shockingly underwhelming
Kind of like your face triple chin
Sorry you didn’t like it, totally valid to share your opinion. I’m sorry others are taking it so personally
For a first time director, Dev Patel did a good job as action star and producer. It is not great cinema, but it wasn’t terrible.
It's just such a bad title.
"A revenge story about vengeance" 🥹
Sorry not my best moment but the definitions of them are slightly different in my defence. 🫠
This movie was boring Every movie wants to be John Wick nothing new that I haven't seen before🥱
John wick is a very modern reference for a revenge story that’s been around for decades
