    I wonder if I could use my sheets of EPP to do this? That solves the waterproofing problem-I'm always nervous about water on the papered part of the foam board. EPP should be lighter too.
    Thank you for these economical planes that are so great flying when the economy is so bad. You are doing a great service to your fellow modelers!

    i use depron and yes it can be abit weak but if you dont mind abit of weight try covering it with self adhesive vinyl and then you have a almost indestructable plane. its abit heavy but probally no heavier than foam board. you can get it in clear and different colour. i stick it to the depron and then use a hair dryer to activate the adhesive. one cooled it sticks great

    This will be my new exercise the dogs plane. I currently am using my little champ. But it's full of teeth now and doesn't like the wind. Dragging a streamer just off the ground should be a great time for the dogs as well as me.

  • @icin4d
    @icin4d Před 11 lety

    Looks like an Xacto blade. They're quite expensive compared to a standard utility knife blade. Also, cutting through foamboard dulls the fine edge knives quickly because the material (polyfoam) is resistant to heat transfer. If you cut across with quick strokes, heat builds up in the blade and takes the edge down. Cutting through slower will make the blades last longer.

    Set up a company and start exporting these foam boards to europe, and you could for sure make great money! I received a large 1/1 car radiator today, shipped from the USA to Norway, I can't imagine it would be hard to ship these foam boards.
    I have searched for months here in Norway and the only thing I find is depron, and with my flying that would be one flight per build :) haha

  • @DoughDaddy1
    @DoughDaddy1 Před 11 lety

    @Ron Gibson without the paper the dollar tree foam board warps where it shouldn't. You can only remove 1 side of the paper without bad issues, even then not more than a small portion to avoidv warpage,

    This was just a super build video... thanks. Is it possible to use an Experimental Airlines type fold at the leading edge of the wing (where you simply strip the paper on the inside of the upper surface of the wing to allow for the proper curvature but still use the doubled foam-board spar)?

    Yea I noticed that but if you look closely when he places that piece on to the fuse to show how to glue it down, it is perfectly on the mat to see the square inch markings. Stop the video and see that it is 2.25 inches into the fuse and 5 inches flat on the tail. So the cut out is 2.25 inches long. The total length of that piece is 7.25 inches.

  • @Ace12GA
    @Ace12GA Před 11 lety

    The blades dull from the paper and the cutting surface. I use snap blade knives like a lot of people. I use two different sized knives, a smaller 3/8 inch wide blade, and a larger 3/4 inch wide blade. These are very cheap when you buy them in bulk. The larger knife for big long cuts, and the smaller knife for detailed or curved cuts. I also remove the paper from my foam board, and use packing tape to reinforce leading edges and folds. The paper comes off too easy from moisture for me. Nice video

    Great video, I just bought the kit, quick question, to fire it up you have to plug in the servo wires and the battery right?
    Also to use the "pod" on other planes you have to plug in servos also right?
    I found it kinda of a bit hard.
    But can't wait to try another of different planes.

    I have had my "Wonder" for about 6 years now, yes it is one of the originals, I power it with an Enya 15 DDL bearing, 4 channels, 9x4 prop and 15% Fuel. It will take-off vertically and has a 15-20 minute flight time. This is a Balsa Built Plane and covered with monocoat. I sure wish that you guys would fly a bit more of the fuel powered planes. I got my first C/L plane back in about 1962, first radio in 1976, been flying radio ever since. Currently, I'm flying a 12th Scale Mustang, O.S. .25, 9x6, a corplas plane 55WS x 17cord, .40bb,10x6, trigear, A Tower Trainer,59in wing, O.S.46, and finally, a SIG Trainer that I changed from a High Wing to a Low Wing, finally a Backyard "Stealth" powered by a Cox .049, 2 ch. These are just my fliers for now, couple of kits and projects that are on the bench. I'm always working on something. This hobby is just one of the most rewarding. Keep up the great work, good vids, lots of good info. I liked your segment with the 1/4 Gasser.

    To all my fellow dollar tree users, a little FYI. Dollar Tree foam is NOT 30 inches in length. It is usually between 3/16 to 1/8 inch over the 30 inch mark. This can effect your measurements if you assume it is 30 inches in length. Happy building!

    Anyone building this plane should consider plastic pin hinges on the control surfaces instead of relying on paper. The paper is simply not a good enough hinge, after 8-10 flights it will begin to blister and pull away from the foam.
