There are so many golden nuggets of wisdom and other "tips" for lack of a better word, in this vid. Thank you so much Flitetest!
These videos are top notch... seriously.
Josh, you do a great job.
this swappable idea is awesome! i was pondering on the idea to somehow swap a power system between planes to save a bunch of money but you actually did it! bravo! this is definitely a huge step forward for our beloved hobby!
It took me 7 or 8 hours to build this, now I just need the electronics. Thanks for the great video, Keep up the nice work!!
WE built the Bloody wonder and it flys great! Thanks for the plans..... Steve
That was an awesome catch at the end!!!!!!
Great info and video production! I'll definitely be referring to this video when I start doing custom scratch builds.
My First build was a Bloody Wonder, could not have done it without this video.
Hey Josh, these are EXCELLENT Tutorials. Thanks a lot you share this know how in the channel...
awesome!!!
Will probably be my first scratch-build... it looks really awesome!
You, Josh, are the absolute best.....thanks.
Great job guys!
Great build, i shall try it.
I LOVE ur builder's cutting mat, i always waited to get one in order to avoid having a company name flashing in my face everytime i'm at my work desk, but having FliteTest
is quite cool. i need one.
The quality of your videos is off the charts. You will be millionaires. Congrats.
Amazing build instruction on the form plane. The only thing missing is a parts list. Beginners like me would need it.
Nice plane as allways! I love you guys!
Josh Bixler you are the man of scratch builds!!
Thanks lots in doing these videos they help us get into new and inexpensive models that fly very well thanks from down under brisvagas
You fella's make great videos. Please keep it up!
Great idea hope they do it
Tip... Bend a V shape in the middle of the control linkage so you can just separate or squeeze together the V to adjust your control surfaces.
IT'S ABOUT BLOODY TIME... :) I've been waiting for the moduler version of the Funbat... You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this THANK YOU GUYS!!!! yeah good day today! lol
best build yet!
very nice build. I like the zip tie trick (I use coffee stirrers as guides). I'd coat it all with shipping tape...
That was really great cheers
Bob Ross of RC builds.
"You can hide a nice happy little spar here. Don't worry the wing will fold over it so no one will see it. Just be our little secret right there..."
you the man. talk about budget, dirt cheap fun. even a cheap 4ch radio and you good.
been watching aha. you got me in but ive chose quads. but this is like a fun throw away deal. I like that, poor kids can do it. :)
Simply Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to make one of these right now
Damn it I wish we had Adams foam board here in the UK !!
I wonder if I could use my sheets of EPP to do this? That solves the waterproofing problem-I'm always nervous about water on the papered part of the foam board. EPP should be lighter too.
Thank you for these economical planes that are so great flying when the economy is so bad. You are doing a great service to your fellow modelers!
God Bless,
Ron
finaly thanx guys for this vid =D
i use depron and yes it can be abit weak but if you dont mind abit of weight try covering it with self adhesive vinyl and then you have a almost indestructable plane. its abit heavy but probally no heavier than foam board. you can get it in clear and different colour. i stick it to the depron and then use a hair dryer to activate the adhesive. one cooled it sticks great
This will be my new exercise the dogs plane. I currently am using my little champ. But it's full of teeth now and doesn't like the wind. Dragging a streamer just off the ground should be a great time for the dogs as well as me.
Looks like an Xacto blade. They're quite expensive compared to a standard utility knife blade. Also, cutting through foamboard dulls the fine edge knives quickly because the material (polyfoam) is resistant to heat transfer. If you cut across with quick strokes, heat builds up in the blade and takes the edge down. Cutting through slower will make the blades last longer.
Would you be able to do an fpv project on the Bloody Wonder?
Excellent video, very thorough and educational with all the little tips and pointers. I hope this video is pinned somewhere!
Thank you for a short Intro, Thumbs up from me. Agree anyone???
Set up a company and start exporting these foam boards to europe, and you could for sure make great money! I received a large 1/1 car radiator today, shipped from the USA to Norway, I can't imagine it would be hard to ship these foam boards.
I have searched for months here in Norway and the only thing I find is depron, and with my flying that would be one flight per build :) haha
@Ron Gibson without the paper the dollar tree foam board warps where it shouldn't. You can only remove 1 side of the paper without bad issues, even then not more than a small portion to avoidv warpage,
i CHALLENGE you (and Josh too lol) to land this plane in the vertical take-off position!
How many centimeters from the leading edge is the CG. THANK YOU👍🏻
This was just a super build video... thanks. Is it possible to use an Experimental Airlines type fold at the leading edge of the wing (where you simply strip the paper on the inside of the upper surface of the wing to allow for the proper curvature but still use the doubled foam-board spar)?
i like the tie rap trick thanks
Yea I noticed that but if you look closely when he places that piece on to the fuse to show how to glue it down, it is perfectly on the mat to see the square inch markings. Stop the video and see that it is 2.25 inches into the fuse and 5 inches flat on the tail. So the cut out is 2.25 inches long. The total length of that piece is 7.25 inches.
The blades dull from the paper and the cutting surface. I use snap blade knives like a lot of people. I use two different sized knives, a smaller 3/8 inch wide blade, and a larger 3/4 inch wide blade. These are very cheap when you buy them in bulk. The larger knife for big long cuts, and the smaller knife for detailed or curved cuts. I also remove the paper from my foam board, and use packing tape to reinforce leading edges and folds. The paper comes off too easy from moisture for me. Nice video
Crazy !!!!
driving me crazy setting up the mixing on my turnigy 9x
dohrehmee u
Great video, I just bought the kit, quick question, to fire it up you have to plug in the servo wires and the battery right?
Also to use the "pod" on other planes you have to plug in servos also right?
I found it kinda of a bit hard.
But can't wait to try another of different planes.
Thank you I'll try
Do you measure your thorough by measuring the movement of the flaps on the plane or by setting your transmitter to .50 and .75 movement?
when building the wing what is the measurements for the angles got the rest of the measurements?
I didnt notice any down right thrust for the motor on this build, did I miss it or is it not important.?
The plans download doesn't match the parts used in the build video. I didn't notice it until i built one.
Thanx Josh!
Very infurmative.....;-)
We have foam board in Latvia, its a bit closer than US :D
be nice if they would put the cg in plans
thank you
Nice guys....think I will build one with a 3000kv hextronic!
Any good prop and motor combos anyone has used on the bloody wonder...
Hello. I just built the bloody wonder. I would like to know where the center of gravity is. Thank you for your reply
great stuff!! which link shows the build of the power pod?
I have had my "Wonder" for about 6 years now, yes it is one of the originals, I power it with an Enya 15 DDL bearing, 4 channels, 9x4 prop and 15% Fuel. It will take-off vertically and has a 15-20 minute flight time. This is a Balsa Built Plane and covered with monocoat. I sure wish that you guys would fly a bit more of the fuel powered planes. I got my first C/L plane back in about 1962, first radio in 1976, been flying radio ever since. Currently, I'm flying a 12th Scale Mustang, O.S. .25, 9x6, a corplas plane 55WS x 17cord, .40bb,10x6, trigear, A Tower Trainer,59in wing, O.S.46, and finally, a SIG Trainer that I changed from a High Wing to a Low Wing, finally a Backyard "Stealth" powered by a Cox .049, 2 ch. These are just my fliers for now, couple of kits and projects that are on the bench. I'm always working on something. This hobby is just one of the most rewarding. Keep up the great work, good vids, lots of good info. I liked your segment with the 1/4 Gasser.
what measurements on CG is on the Ft bloody Wonder
I had a Sig cub cadet and two Sig kougars.
could you make a video on a way to give the bloody wonder a rudder???
Do you strongly recommend that the placement of the battery should be inside or outside
To all my fellow dollar tree users, a little FYI. Dollar Tree foam is NOT 30 inches in length. It is usually between 3/16 to 1/8 inch over the 30 inch mark. This can effect your measurements if you assume it is 30 inches in length. Happy building!
Will someone please tell me how thick depron i need? My local rc shop sells 3 and 6 mm thick depron.
3mm would be best, that's about the thickness of foam board
And send some bulk packages over to Australia too! All we have is $10 for an A1 sheet (~20*35") that's about 8 times the cost of the American stuff and its made in Aus! It should be cheaper!
please tell me in what kind of shops I can get extreame packing tape?
I was wondering if you have the tiled plans? If you do i must be blind.
Thank you,
Luis
my ft bloody wonder work with a small 4x4 prop, but at the maiden flight i crash it :/
Does removing the servos destroy the plane?
You guys should do a build with the mfb2 from the kids at mesa
if i want to made it at home . what is the magerment
HOLY CRAP........ Me and Josh Bixler use the same X-Acto knives :D!!!
kullandığınız beyaz malzemenin adı ne ve nereden bula bilirim
could I make this out of corflute with carbinfiber to reinforce it?
What's with the new quality selection thing?
Anyone building this plane should consider plastic pin hinges on the control surfaces instead of relying on paper. The paper is simply not a good enough hinge, after 8-10 flights it will begin to blister and pull away from the foam.
@flitetest can i use 12gram micro metal gear servos? Or are they too heavy? HELP!!!
What kind of glue do you use to make it stay hot/soft as long as it does?
Hi!
How string / thick is the dollartree-material you are using? 3mm? And has anybody built this with epp?
I'm starting RC and am wondering if a turnigy park 450 and 2200 mah 3s can compat with this design
Who designs all these scratch build planes?? They seem really good.
I really want to make one but there is no tiled plans :(
Alpatriod Go to Flite-test.com, they usually have the plans there. I did notice he didn't mention drawing a center line then measure 3 in either side of center for fuselage joint
Can use elevons.I have tried it.
What kind of servos are these
Why not use the armin wing method?
Отличный самолётик👍🛩
I have seen it thanks
Does landing it in a tree vertically count?
It's a Bloody Wonder this thing is flying LoL
what are those razors called
Is this going to be available as a laser cut kit in your online store anytime soon?
how do I get foam board in ireland
ive got a sig wonder, 140mph 5s electric set up
where can i get knife like the knife of josh bixler ?
Just one page but if you use adobe x you can print poster style and it prints as if tiled
