      There are *so many* well animated characters in SF6. The highlight for me is actually JP. They are doing everything in their power to sell you on the kind of villain JP is, and how different he is than someone like Urien, Bison, Seth, Akuma or Nicalli. He's a villain to whom appearances and good PR are the real battleground, where it isn't enough to win the fight, he has to come out the other side *looking* like the good guy, so he puts a lot of effort in keeping his metaphorical hands clean...
      Which is why the fact that the only time he will put his *literal* hands on someone is when he's backed into a corner (AKA: His level 3 super). Not a single one of his strikes, not even his throw will lay a single gloved finger on his opponent. A great bit of storytelling in animation, and that's not to mention his world tour cutscenes and his walk-off animation where he is given the opportunity to do the typical Street Fighter villain win pose of "the frame before they kill you" in favor of him having the opportunity and letting it go.

    There were tons of fantastic games last year, but I wanna mention one game that blew me away in both its visual style and gameplay. Roboquest is an FPS roguelite that released late last year, and it's easily one of the funnest FPS games I've played in a long time. It is incredibly comic book styled, like Hi-Fi Rush, but its environments and characters go for a more natural, rounded look. When you use your weapon, you'll get little onomatopoeia floating around it like "bang!", "zap!" and "pow!". Each enemy robot was designed to let you know what they'll do at a glance. Small grounded robots will move forward and shoot, flying drones will get in your face, taller robots can punch you if you get too close, and in a game where there are at least 8 robots in a room and there's a ton of bullets flying by and explosions happening, having that sort of visual clarity is very helpful. I'd love to see it get more attention, it's absolutely fantastic.

      It can shake hands with No Straight Roads which released a few years earlier. First debut game by its respective studio, has its ups and downs and differs from HFR from being more boss-centric and quite a bit shorter, but in terms of the genre and love for music and style, they could be like cousins in a way.

      @bronze1557 Před 5 měsíci

      I really really love Who's Lila, but I'd say it has an amazing visual style rather than amazing animation, the character's model movements are clunky and the facial rigs always animate linearly, not to say it looks bad of course, but it's not remarkable imo

    I haven’t really played visual novels before, cause I didn’t think I could get invested in a bunch of static images. Goodbye Volcano High was probably my first one, and I loved it. The voice acting and the slight animation for talking and expressions really elevated the immersion I got that I don’t think I would get for just static images and just reading.

      If you're curious about it and like RPGs, I'd recommend Disco Elysium :D
      That game may ooze beautiful stylistic artstyle, have good mechanics and decent animation, but in reality all of that is a disguise. It's actually a pullitzer-level novel and story/world :D

    • @danielgrezda3339

    Honestly, I think Armored Core 6 deserved a mention here. Cuz even with how stiff and solid the animations are for most of the mechs, it makes sense for the war machines you're piloting and fighting. Sure, your AC barely animates, but then you look at stuff like IBIS-CEL-240 and it's just going absolutely NUTS the entire fight, really emphasising how outclassed you are in this fight but making that dance with it feel absolutely incredible when you nail its moveset and rip it to pieces.
    Or hell, IBIS-SOL, which appears in two of the endings and you can feel the either regret or the pure and utter malice and HATRED coming from whose piloting it just based on the small movements of this giant, chunky mech

Keep doing what you're doing, you continue to impress.

    • @SatansBestBuddy1
      @SatansBestBuddy1 Před 5 měsíci +3

      yeah no kidding, I was watching some Tekken 8 graphics deep dive and while the models in that game look fantastic, the way they move is so weirdly stiff, some of the more exaggerated poses make it really obvious they're just polygons. Street Fighter 6 is wild for almost never doing that.

    • @MomoWax1000
      @MomoWax1000 Před 5 měsíci

      @@SatansBestBuddy1That's true but, to be fair, the sheer number of moves to animate in tekken 8 is magnitudes larger than street fighter 6; plus the fact that tekken 8 has customisable characters and is a 3d fighter vs a 2d game. It's no wonder that tekken animations are much jankier than street fighter, i think that just comes with the territory.

    i mean this in the absolute best way possible... this channel's... well everything, but especially the writing and delivery feels so unique, even though it isn't doing anything particularly special or new technique wise. it isn't rolling on the floor funny, or super deep, or full of metaphors and fantastic quotable analogies. but it also isn't trying to be any of those things. what it does have, and oh boy does it ooze this out of every corner and crevice, is charm. every small joke, while i don't feel like i want to laugh at them particular hard, lands in a "oh that was a good one" kind of way, and in the best way. every line read is expertly paced, and i cannot imagine how many takes you must do for some of them. a favorite bit is the introduction to resident evil 4, such a clever yet endlessly relatable comparison to make.
    as someone who wishes to improve my ability to narrate and do voiceovers like these, this is a shining performance to strive towards.

  • @Ariamaki
    @Ariamaki Před 5 měsíci +1

    I'm going to make an unorthodox play and praise a game for how LITTLE animation it contains, yet how well it uses what it has.
    The latest game from South Korean studio Project Moon, 'Limbus Company', uses a really streamlined paperdoll-style 2D animation system to get its hundreds of different characters, creatures, and alternative-identities-OF-characters moving in a timely manner. This pretty simple Flash-esque method is brought to life through the use of strong VFX and particle animations layered on and mixed in to create some very beautiful moments in and out of battle.
    A recent trailer for the near-future update (at time of this writing) 'Yield My Flesh To Claim Their Bones' is absolutely stunning in how it uses clean snappy individual frames that are almost entirely tweened through simple motion and visual trail effects.
