I agree with you on wanting to explore idol groups. I don’t get that mentality of just sticking with one group either. I think it’s a thing that the fans have made up that sometimes helps them to create fan wars (obviously I’m generalising here and I know not all fans are like this and many older fans are usually respectful) with one another when groups themselves wouldn’t want that. Groups listen to a lot of music - both western and idol groups, so why can’t fans? I find it a little strange tbh, but that’s why I’ve become a multi-Stan. BTS is still my ultimate group but Enhypen is coming by close second and I’m sure I’ll start to love even more once I get to know more of them.

I personally don’t understand people who don’t think BTS is Kpop. I understand they want to differentiate that BTS is “beyond” but it’s like saying Queen isn’t rock music. Where they more and experimental? Yes! But they were also a rock band and came from that culture and music and benefited from their predecessors. BTS is still Kpop...which for me is wonderful! Part of why I love and appreciate them so much is because they introduced me to Kpop which I now love so much!
BTS is probably only 1/10 of what I listen to with other Kpop or Korean artists filling out the vast majority. I have so many bands and solo artists I love and support. BTS is something special and magical, but honestly I can’t even say they are the best in any aspect other than lyrics. There are so many groups that are on par with them or even can outshine them in certain areas. It’s so sad to me that some people write off listening to all that Kpop has to offer.
Thanks so much for checking this out! I was kind of a history nerd my whole life so when I got into Kpop I dove DEEP and eat this stuff up

Haha, I have a degree in History ~ so I love this stuff too. I'm glad you enjoyed!
On your point, I don't understand why people separate BTS from Kpop either, but overall I just think the word "Kpop" "Jpop" etc. is outdated. That's just personally for me, and I get why others may really value that diction but I just wish everything was categorized by genre overall "pop" "rock" and broken down further rather than specific to a place. Like, we don't have "UK Pop" etc. We have "classic rock" which pertains to an era but not a place, and has a certain connotation to it. When you hear the words "classic rock" immediately a certain style comes to mind, but when you hear "Kpop" either you can't place exactly what sound that would be or you think of Gangnam Style or maybe even early KPop girl groups, and I don't think the word Kpop allows the genre to evolve from an outsiders perspective. Idk if that makes sense but 😂 of course, this is a Western perspective and I'd totally understand if it was important overall for Koreans to have that separation from the Western world

@@Rennari I think people use the term kpop wrong. It’s not a genre it’s an industry. I’ll use hollywood as an example. Hollywood is an industry that has many different genres of movies. They make their movies in english but not all english movies are hollywood movies. A movie becomes a hollywood movie if it’s made in hollywood or made by hollywood production companies and directors. Kpop is something similar. It’s a music industry that has many genres of music. They make songs mostly in korean but not all korean music is kpop. A kpop artist is someone who comes from a kpop company and has gone through the kpop trainee system. So bts is kpop but for example trot singers are not.

Yeah, it's just that most people aren't sticking to BTS because they have such diverse music - they're sticking to BTS just because they're BTS (their hardships, their meaning, their popularity, etc.) and sometimes don't even try to listen to other groups music because they don't want other groups getting as popular/successful/winning awards, etc. At least that's what I've noticed with some ARMY's (obviously not all).
I agree that when I just want to listen to music I usually go to BTS because of the different styles, it never gets boring, but I've never wanted other groups to be less successful or not get the same consideration BTS has. Sorry that was long LOL!

Funnily my mum was a big kpop stan, she loved rain(which u saw in the video) and I've done taekwondo since I was 4(where i learned korean), so I grew up hearing a lot of kpop. It's been pretty interesting seeing it grow. From my primary school days, I remember hearing a lot of girls generation, tvxq, shinee, kara, teen top, exo, big bang, boa, and f(x). I honestly don't remember hearing of bts till I need u, cuz i think that's their first song that actually started to gain more traction. I do like some of their songs and their lyrics are pretty deep, but ultimately they're not really my type of music. The groups I listen to now only really consist of twice, nct, and day6, then solo artists like IU, Dean, Crush, Loco, Sik-k, DPR Live, punchnello, and Yerin Baek. I haven't really listened to much 4th gen things since with the oversaturation of the industry, its been kinda overwhelming to find new artists and actually like more than 1 of their songs. I would definitely recommend you checking out day6, twice(their newer songs tho cuz their older songs are more cutesy which I love but u probably don't like), DPR live, IU, and nct, ad well as older artists like tvxq, kara, and f(x).

Part of the reason I love BTS is BECAUSE they introduced me to KPop. Like I love so many groups and artists and BTS helped me find them. I also really love a lot of older of older Kpop and it’s so cool diving into their history and seeing how if it weren’t them what BTS have achieved wouldn’t have been possible. Does that negate BTS hard work and efforts? Of course not! But I do find the idea of “BTS is more than Kpop!” used more often to belittle Kpop than to elevate BTS.
It’s like if you listen to Queen’s music they were way more than just a rock group but it was the world they came from and highly influenced who they were so they are still always going to be remembered as a rock group. Legends are legends because they either define or stretch the definition of a genre.

I can to Kpop via Krock. I started as a huge fan of Lee Hongki of the rock group FT Island fandom Primadonna. Through them I got into music from other groups but love the k rock groups the most because their sound just sounded less formula. Some of the solo artists like Rain and groups like Shinee and Super Junior. became my favorites again mostly because of the talent of the vocals and the fact that the sound was not so bubble gum. It's the original sound, talent and creatively that draws me to BTS and now also Enhypen. One of the big draws to Kpop is the excellent fan service that Kpop builds. Being part of a fandom can allow you to meet and be friends with people all over the world. That is true of BTS and Army and now also Enhypen and Engene. This is a long way of saying that being apart of the Kpop community is more then the music is also about the community. I can truly say that through some of the fandoms I have built friendships all over the world.

majority of armys DID try to give other kpop artists a chance (and some still do) but as you may or may not come to see depends on your music taste. bts has it all that everyone else kpop or western pop becomes boring and repetitive. aside from a select few i can personally think of or a hit song here and there everyone sounds the same to me and to many other armys.
i watched many of the award shows mostly cause bts was there but also to check out other artists and literally 7 boy groups performed back to back and they all sounded the same with different clothes, dances and obv members. theres no diversity in the music anymore.
meanwhile bts never misses when they release something.
anyways another reason it comes down to it is the way the companys and fandoms treat bts and armys. some armys got tired of all the media play and hateful fandoms and just decided they wont check artists out to get back at the companys.
a lot is a combination of the first point and this point tho i havent met anyone who just does it out of spite it may be a reason but not the only reason.
anyways please react to this video itll explain some more stuff "the mistreatment of bts by affectaed"
groups i listen to besides bts are txt, kard, mamamoo and recently twice with their two latest songs.
solo artists lee hi, iu, chung ha, mamamoos members solo works. k hip hop : epik high, mfbty, tiger jk
(btw namjoon is like the unofficial god child of tiger jk and they collabed twice. mfbty and epik high were like some of the only people to believe in bts from the industry as a whole not just kpop but korean hip hop etc besides bang pd and people at bighit. theyre all still close now. check out mfbty ft rm bucku bucku & tiger jk ft rm timeless)
twice is the example of a hit song cause before cant stop me and cry for me i didnt like twices music so it all comes down to preference and what armys think is interesting. with the way bts is with so much depth to everything many dont find the need to check new music out often. thats my take on it. also armys dont like multis but not bc we dont want ppl listening to other music we honestly dont care but its when multis involve themselves in fanwars and then defend their other faves OVER bts or completely ignore what their co fandoms do to bts and armys thats when we dont like multis. but if youre just listening to other music and minding your own business we dont mind that at all.

Don't worry, I've seen every video out there on the mistreatment of BTS, their hardships, etc. One of them is on my channel but I was an ARMY before starting the channel and watched a lot of content about it.
I've also said that about people checking out other groups because I have found in some ARMY groups I am in (so from personal experience as well as seeing things on the internet), that people just don't want to give other groups a chance because they feel like they're "cheating" on BTS which I find ridiculous.
Obviously, there are other music tastes, Obviously, there may be a lack of diversity out there (I'm not sure, as I only listen to Blackpink, BTS, Enhypen & TXT). But to not give someone a chance just because they aren't BTS is the silliest thing to me!
Also personally to me, I think there needs to be a better way at going after toxic fandoms and toxic companies than not listening to the artists. In 99% of cases, it's not the artists fault - for instance, the whole BTS vs Blackpink thing, or BTS vs. NCT thing. It sucks when you just want to enjoy all the music out there, and BTS has insanely great music, but there's just so much you could be exploring and chose not to because of a bad company or a bad fan group. I get why they boycott the music, but I just wish there was a better way 😑
LOL sorry this was long, I like these discussions and seeing different perspectives on it. Thank you!

It's odd that the video didn't mention Wonder Girls. They were well on their way to becoming the nation's girl group in the 2nd generation until they (meaning JYP) tried getting into the American market by promoting exclusively in the US for about a year. While they were gone, SNSD released "Gee," and the rest is history. Wonder Girls returned to Korea and were still successful (to be fair, every group put out by the big 3 will be sucessful), but they never reclaimed their status from SNSD. Instead, there was T-ara, which was getting close to being a rival until a BS bullying scandal (the claims of bullying were not true, but T-ara's company mismanaged the PR) forced them from the scene and become huge in China until the truth of the "bullying" came out years later.

Even if you wish to be a multi-stan, the commitment that BTS shares with ARMY and vulnerability are unmatched. Constant comparison with other groups which is unavoidable, their achievements are always rendered as worthless.

But here we see all of them supporting one act. Obviously these same people did give BTS a listening chance so I don’t think the problem is them not “trying”, but either they did and were not interested like me, or they just don’t bother to which is fine(I seriously don’t know why you feel triggered about someone‘s music preference)

I think this also comes about because of how diverse BTS discography is, they’re always churning out new songs and so much content that most of their fans don’t feel the need to go out of their comfort zone if their faves keep them entertained. I admit it’s a good strategy on BTS part to keep the fandom here. As an army myself I have too many things to catch up on that checking up on other groups will be such a chore for others. From my own personal opinion of someone who actually checked out some groups, I still see BTS discography to be a lot better and fresher than other kpop acts, even some western acts. And it is hard to appreciate other acts when your standards have been made that high. I don’t see any kpop group pulling a Black Swan orchestra version or having such good story telling in their discography. Their albums have such high critical acclaim from both Korean and western critics. I’m yet to see anything like Mots7 in kpop. But that’s just a food for thoughts and my personal opinion. Don’t take it to heart 💜
I also like this act called Lauren Daigle. She is very talented. I just recommend her to others to check her out. If they don’t want to, I don’t get upset. It’s not like you are going to throw a tantrum about everyone on earth who don’t check out kpop. So I really don’t see the need to single out armys when there are millions of people who don’t do the same. Policing people will just turn them off. Which a lot of kpop stans seem to do with lots of ARMYs on Twitter. I do see some good ones genuinely just dropping a link to their faves and moving on, and that’s how it should be. If they do end up checking them out, good for you. If they don’t, don’t get upset and police them. That just turns them off more.

No, no, I totally agree with you! I definitely didn't just decide to stan BTS haha. I am also a hard metal fan 😄 I'm not triggered my someone's music preference, I just wish more people who like me, came from other genres or whatever gave other K-Pop artists a chance (even just one song, to see what it's about) because the K-Pop industry is more than just BTS and there are tons of things you can find and enjoy if you go looking, or as you've said maybe they don't enjoy it after they look for it. But as an overall music lover, I think everything should be tried once 😄
I'm not upset if they don't check it out. Like in reality, if I suggest something and they're like no it's not for me, I move on. I just wish, preferably, they did give it a shot because they don't know what they could be missing until they try, you know what I mean? Same applies to rock music for me. If someone says they don't like rock music, but has never actually heard it, I would love for them to extend their horizons and gather an opinion past "I've heard bad things about it" or "I heard screamo once and don't like it" because they could be missing out on something else! I think we're saying the same thing here at least 😊

I was actually just thinking about this the other day! Because I always sing "Oh I'm in trouble" whenever something happens at home lol. But I haven't heard the song since NYEL...
Thank you for the other suggestions! They're definitely high on the list to get around to ❤ hope you have a great day as well! 😃

I am a blink and an ARMY, and was not pushing BTS - I actually made it very clear in this video that I hate that people (ARMY or just K-pop fans in general) only focus on BTS and don't even try to explore other artists once they find BTS :)

Okay - when you watch content do you multitask? Because, if you haven't noticed, I am human and not some employee that has to live up to certain standards. I do this for fun. This video is from January of this year, a few months into reacting. And I am ABSOLUTELY going to talk over videos like this when I have something to say that isn't longer than a few seconds - if I paused for everytime I said "oh cool" or something small, this reaction would be long af. If you don't like that way of doing it, then you can leave there is no reason to call it a "bad reaction" because it's not your preference 🤷‍♀️

@@rainbows5232 I'm glad you understand. I was on my phone for 3 seconds while still listening while nothing interesting was actually happening on screen, and I stopped to pause and talk a LOT in this (although in more recent videos, my audio has gotten better so when I do talk over videos it is clearer). I didn't see it as an attack, but it was just a shitty comment?
