Also another interesting this is that BTS were basically the only group under bighit. That means that they took an almost bankrupt label, and put in that grind to reach stardom. Since bighit was small and didn't have much influence like the big 3(YG, JYP, and SM) BTS often couldn't get media slots and they wouldn't get invites to awards shows or be shown on broadcast. Fun fact: the first time they were invited to the Busan Music Festival, Namjoon got injured so he couldn't perform. In response, the organizers of the event cancelled their performance without telling bts, but then bts performed anyways (because Armys were waiting for them) after the show was over, the lights were off, and there was confetti already on the stage
Edit: I got it mixed up with mamas, but we could also talk about how mama didn't invite bts to their award show even though they were nominated for rookie of the year

I saw another comment recommending bby gang - I second that one too. That channel goes into the stereotypes and frankly: racism, korean musicians are treated with in western media. ''You are wrong about k-pop'' or ''bts and the coronavirus tweet''.
Western media tends to overemphazise the corporate side or scandals of korean pop, îpnoring that it's just the same as in america, generalizing all the negative things while this is never done with US-pop.
For example just because one US-pop act pissed on girls wouldn't mean that The Weeknd pissed on girls just because both are US american and make popular music. Or just because the Disney factory and Motown mistreated artists doesnt mean all US artists are mistreated etc.
Often enough this essentialist generalisation is done to koreans though. The underlying reason for that is xenophobia, protectionism and sadly, racism.

lol I was trippin when I saw gospel too lol but I gotta say. Knowing about kpop since 2005, Koreans have soul. Period. Aint no way these people came up with this music for the popularity. They put this out cuz they loved it themselves. Koreans love to sang them thangs!

Sweetie, when we say k pop is more than just BTS, we mean it...many genres, artists styles....and the k hip hop is amazing....a lot of idols are from other countries, like Canada, America, Australia, Argentina. There is one artist that sticks out in my mind that I think needs more attention...it might surprise a lot fans that I'm going to say Villian. Villain is a rapper/singer from a company called Planetarium. He is actually from Sherman Oaks California. Grew up 9n Canada and Dubai. Check out his song, "Manitto." He is an amazing rapper...check out his other project, a group called PLT. And their song "Hocus Pocus" or "Igoholic." Trust me.

Hundreds of groups debut every year, only a handful survive past a couple of years... BTS debuted in 2013 and struggled to get known in their native S. Korea, they were horribly bullied by the entertainment industry! Most S. Koreans didn't know BTS until they begin getting attention in the West. In fact, some thought BTS was an American group!

Also, I remember you saying that you liked 'pied piper' in their high notes compilation, that song has some good notes in it and talks about themselves being the pied piper if you're familiar with the tale.
