THIS THIS THIS is why BTS is so special. Beyond their talent & ethics, they inspire the hell out of their fans to rise. Incredible.
There are definitely a lot of assholes in Army, but I think overall, our fandom really is the most positive, charitable, and organized fandom (at least that I've ever seen). The sense of community you get from being a fan of BTS is really something and it makes me thankful for being in such an amazing fandom

Totally agree. I found those that are toxic or asshole are those that either follow them for their looks (so their not diving into lyrics to better themselves and won't be around for long - though they will likely spread a lot of crap) or a majority of solo stans - which again not diving into those lyrics obviously. Also I found what you put out, you're getting back - so those that keep saying Army is toxic or are assholes - I'm wondering what those ones saying it are putting out there.
I found wonderful communities full of like minded individuals - people I never thought I would meet because of geography - and it reaffirms a kindness in humanity which lately feels so lacking.
I think it's just that the fanbase is so large, the number of obsessive/crazy/disrespectful "Armys" is also bigger and because of this, more visible, lol
I disagree. It's very few people in ARMY that are mean. Most of the negative comes for fake fans. They don't have profiles. They are just trolling us. We are protective! We do stand up for the boys when people are making negative or racists comments.
There are just a lot of horrible people in general, some of them just stumble on the fandom and try to join in without knowing the core values that the artist we follow represents. But I guess the best thing to do is to surround ourselves with good people and ignore the bad ones. Jin inspired me with his words btw haha, but so far my experience with lots of ARMYs are great, if they start to sound craycray then I just start backing away slowly and disappear.

i was a whatever fan for years. lived in korea two years didnt care. freaking fast forward till rona hits, THEN i become an army. One of the symptoms of quarantine = becoming an army.

the finger thing is what's most commonly referred to as the "korean finger heart". if you put your pointer finger across your thumb, it makes a little heart. it's a quick endearing way to show you love someone or are thankful for something !!
And what I also found out by someone drawing it out (i think it's on twitter)......the finger heart is actually the most realistic of hearts - the two fingers show the valve leading in and out of the heart and the fist forms the chamber of the heart......this blew my mind

ARMY has become such a loyal and powerful fandom due to the trust they were given by BTS and the sense of responsibility instilled in them by the band. This, along with the unfair practices in the kpop industry that BTS had to endure for a long time gave ARMY this sense of entitlement to defend BTS against prejudice, mistreatment, and exploitation. Hence the aggressive defensive mechanism of some. In addition, it should be noted that at times many of the really disrespectful comments written by "ARMYs" are not necessarily made by real ARMYs. Actually, it is common in Kpop for fans of other groups infiltrating competitors' fandoms and trying to spread hate one way or another.
ARMY is aware, for example, that some exploit them for clout, and this is why they might be aggressive to reactors. While some ARMY hate reaction videos, others view them as mutual (BTS-reactor) benefit. I take the second stance.
That hand gesture is a heart. It's common in Korea to make hearts with hands and fingers in different ways, one of them is this. Another is raising both arms and putting the hands on one's head to make a heart shape. While these might seem weird and childish in the Western cultures, it is actually part of the culture of cuteness in Eastern traditions, which is for all ages and genders.

Some of the most amazing people that I met in my life are ARMY. I was never disappointed by them.
Armys can be some of the most annoying assholes ever, but I've never seen any other fandom do as much good as bts fans do, and most are actually pretty nice.
It's just that since there are so many of them you can't really avoid the bad apples, and sometimes nobody hates armys more than other armys do, but in general this is the nicest most welcoming fandom I've ever seen.
In conclusion, I hate armys but I love y'all

I love this. thank you for being so open-minded. I, myself, used to make fun of people who listened to BTS. (bad phase in my life) I never understood why ARMY was so protective and loyal to them. However, last year I gave in and watched a video. I got sucked into the wormhole that is BTS right there. I love them with my life, and they saved it as well. Thank you, again.

I've been army for 5 years. I like how positive and informative this video is. The only problem I have is that there is a real presence of toxicity among army especially on Twitter. It's not a huge percentage of army it's actually very small percentage of army that can be toxic but they tend to be keyboard warriors especially on Twitter who are very immature and have a very cancele culture mentality. The other problem is is that a common fact is that negative words have a much stronger impact than a positive word. You might get 3,000 positive comments but if you get 100 negative ones those hundred negative ones hurt more powerfully than the 3000 positive. We do have in such humongous fan base people who have prejudices, can be racist. There's some who assumed they have all the right information and are out there constantly correcting but in a very negative way. And there's some who are immature and simply put these boys on a pedestal where they're no longer considered human and everything they do is absolute perfection. These are toxic ideas. They take away the good and talent that the boys do have by insisting that they are the most perfect the most talented always without any mistake or lip syncing or anything. They're not in touch with reality especially considering the limitations of stage and TV and performance and how industries use technology and other things to help bring the best performance they can mitigating human limitations. BTS are incredible and their team at big hit are equally incredible and together with army they make incredible performances and memories. It's important for mature army to correct immature army and apologize on their behalf when wrong is done. I know for CZcamsrs especially who have started reacting to BTS and they can especially at first get jumped on by immature armies. And I just want to apologize on their behalf when they assume and get defensive and protective in a toxic way. thanks for your honesty and the way you're always yourself. It's been entertaining and has also helped me to see things from your perspective more often by watching your reactions and I've really enjoyed that journey.

you made a good point tho that made me legit bust out laughing: the music industry here is beyond mad that bts accomplished what they have with zero help from them (korean foreign artists beating the white music execs). it's amazing. we got life goes on w/o radio or industry support to get number 1 on hot100. I don't think ppl realize how ridiculously insane that feat was. BTS showed the industry that they can do what they want, without their help...and that got them SO mad lol We've been blocked by radio for SO long, but bts have proven that radio isn't needed to chart high. I’m 25 years old, I have been a dedicated Army since 2015/16 (officially paid my annual membership since 2016, but discovered them in 2015). I am a university graduate, a practical registered nurse, working full time and doing my Masters part time - I am as I un-hysterical as they come - I have been paying my own bills and taking care of myself for years. But I have every album they ever released, and this is the only group/artist I have ever bothered enough to join an actual fan club and pay membership fees every year! There is other music that I like and listen to - the reason I love BTS and am so dedicated is that I actually love them as people, I love who they are, I love what they believe in, I love what they stand up for - they make me happy, and they give me faith in humanity - something I really need in my work. I watch and rewatch Run BTS, Bon Voyage, In the Soop, interviews - anything really, because I find they heal me and give me comfort. If they needed me to risk my life for them, I would not hesitate - they are genuinely good, decent men. If you can’t love them (talking generally here, not about the content creator), that’s fine - but at least respect them, their artistry, and their humanity - and treat them with dignity. We can all learn from them and try to do better. 💜💜💜
