I don't listen to all the songs these groups have but a few that I like. They are all amazing, esp mamamoo the best female vocal.

See the difference, BTS are really big! And one more thing, Time Magazine already said that "BTS ARE ONE OF THE PRINCE'S OF POP" ,so it's not just in Kpop, it's in whole POP industry! Alongside Justine Bieber as the prince of pop!
BTS' rival was EXO starting on 2016. In 2017, it has always been EXO vs BTS (+Wanna One and TWICE). The two groups got the grand prizes in 2017 award shows. In 2018, while BTS is starting to make it BIG internationally, EXO literally went MIA (in terms of releasing music as a group). EXO then made a comeback on November (after 1 year and 3 months?), but started to struggle keeping up because BTS already garnered international audience. And it became harder as EXO started enlisting in the military one by one.
It's always the time. Everyone had their time. Seo Taiji started, H.O.T widened it, TVXQ started to promote outside, to their rival Bigbang, to their rival EXO, to their rival BTS. The real question is, how many years will it take to have a group that can top/rival BTS?

Kinda ironic how Seo Taiji's independent, socially aware and self-made music is the foundation of the now shallow mass-produced idol industry. I'm glad he could see that BTS are one of the few who are branded as idol groups that are actually continuing his legacy.

just like how most of us thought back then that no one can possibly be bigger than Big Bang, SNSD, 2ne1, and Super Junior, time will come that some fresh faces will take over BTS and that thought actually makes me sad. I grew up with the second gen of k-pop and now almost ALL of the groups I know are inactive, disbanded, or flopping. I think I can't handle seeing BTS be outshined by anyone at this point because it's just IMPOSSIBLE. But then again, if you told me at 2010 that one group will destroy SM, YG, and JYP, I will probably laugh at you. Nothing is impossible now. Someone will surely take the reigns from BTS but it's probably for another 20 years

Till date there's not even a single group that can top Big Bang in terms of music. Ya there maybe groups which are popular now but Big Bang ruled the whole industry when they were active and m pretty sure they will rule now too when they make a comeback because Big Bang is not a typical kpop group. I kinda lost it after 4th generation it really gotten to a point to everything is manufactured and there’s a saturated market I feel like and lot of concepts are similar
yah I have a bit similar thought..I still prefer the 3rd generation groups like bts, exo, got7, nct, stray kids, Mamamoo, Gfriend, etc. A few groups from 4th I can stan so far are txt, Enhypen, gidle~
I try not to be too harsh on 4th gen groups just because they’ve only been around for two years or less. They may commercialized now but with time they will most likely find their own styles. I’ve also seen that a lot of groups with unique concepts are kind of buried at the moment. OnlyOneOf debuted with a r&b/dreamy concept while Purple Kiss is debuting with a strong vocal concept. I don’t think the 4th gen is necessarily more produced than the previous generations, I jus think it’s more saturated and thus it’ll take longer for groups to shine through.

As for 4th gen I tried a lot but weirdly can’t seem to appreaciate their music it’s way too similar to one another and I feel are way too focused on making hits and catchy songs rather than actual music

It is definitely true. BTS is much bigger than all kpop groups. You can check the difference in sales, streams, views, awards, and records. BTS are not even considered kpop anymore by many, they are genera of their own. I'm from the 2nd gen, started with SUJU, DBSK and Bigbang + Infinite. Now Exo, Got7, skz and Seventeen are closest to my heart. BTS were too once, they were cool until boy with love came out - but that's just my personal taste. I still respect them and care for them as individuals. BTS gives soo much to their fans and they're amazing people but their fandom is making it hard to stay loyal to BTS. Army can be really mean to each other and everything is about being number one to them. I left that fandom mostly because of the fans.
Aaand I usually prefer more Korean kpop instead of American kpop anyways and BTS is really American in their style nowadays. Which is fine if it's what they want with their group. It's Just not for me ;)
When it comes to fandoms I like chill fandoms so I stick with being a Carat, they're welcoming and sweet. Ahgase, inspirit and monbebe are also nice fandoms to join. :)

BIGBANG is the trendsetter and the idol of idols and not giving them enough credit is like discrediting MICHAEL JACKSON when it comes to pop. People who think that BTS or whatever new group paved the way are probably new to Kpop or have discovered it while BIGBANG was on hiatus or enlisted in the military. If you know any real Kpop fans who've been there before the recent media play you'd know that BIGBANG can never be replaced, discarded or surpassed when it comes to LEGENDARY status. Now I do not hate on any other groups they've done a great job proving themselves but saying that they paved the way is a TRAGIC EXAGERATION. If you think I'm making this up for whoever reads it all you have to do is google everything. so yeah, BIGBANG made all of this possible . So let's just put it this way in KPOP bigbang is beyond Kings, they're GODS so there's no room for comparison .

first of all, that was an unnecessary comment. And 2nd, it's not our problem if you don't care for streaming but thats the only way to show your idol that you love the music and in the end you will only win awards when you have the numbers. Your idols work hard so give them respect and at least try to thank them by giving them things like awards and numbers it's the bare minimum
