  • I took my Honda Nighthawk 450, that I named "Panther", on the highway for the first time on a ride to a doctor's appointment in Toronto. This was also my first time on the highway this season. Highway 401 is one of the busiest highways in North America and I try to avoid it as much as I can. But today, I would be late for my appointment unless I take it. Got cut off by a vehicle because I was in its blind spot.
I also give my condolences to a fallen rider in Toronto. He was involved in a single vehicle accident. He was only 28 and also had a younger passenger who survived but is in hospital. My condolences go out to the surviving family members.
In the end, even though the CB450SC felt a lot more awkward to handle for me, I felt a lot safer on the highway on it compared to my CBR250.

Smart to not chat while you are riding. Voice overs aren't bad, especially when it's your safety we are more concerned with.

they are comfortable on the highway for a "small" bike, I've done a 8 hour round trip to northern Michigan, got great fuel economy 60 mpg and had no problem whatsoever. enjoy and stay safe

You weren't holding in blind spot. Were rear of the bumper til the truck cleared. Next time the car should signal before moving, not never.
For the lowspeed, few main tips. Not sure which you have heard. When getting to low speed, only use rear brake for the final bit. Also try to avoid putting two feet down. I found that getting used to left foot down allows more control of that rear brake for the low speed maneuvering. In addition, an oops I had was during low speed, I would let my knee out a little bit. Keeping knees tucked into the bike helps balance.
Of course last is practice ^.^

MarkusReese I do feather the rear brake when I'm riding slowly through parking lots or when I'm making U-turns. But I was taught to use the front brakes more on the streets so I have to remember to just feather the rear when I'm coasting to a stop. Thank you for your tips, they are always appreciated.

+MarkusReese I agree, but I personally never relied on light signals to determine another driver's intentions because too many people don't use them. It is always better to be cautious to each vehicle in question and observe their movements before proceeding. Assumptions kill in the road.

NINJA NERO Thanks, bro and same to you. I'm not used to it yet that's why I'm always on guard. Do you mind me asking which highway you take?

I have a CB450SC as well. I've found 65 mph seems pretty safe, but I worry some about potholes.
