  • They’re the hidden engine to getting you out back through broken waves; to help you power to the shore and catch a wave; and to help you steer, brake and accelerate when riding down the line.
    US bodyboarding legend Jay Reale takes us through the top things to consider when choosing swimfins:
    There are symmetric and asymmetric (left and right-foot biased) fins - there are benefits to each type.
    Drainage hole location determines how effectively you lose sand, shells and rocks when in the ocean.
    Blade length is important - medium length is a good all-rounder between sharper directional change and power when kicking.
    Blade flex also determines the power you get - flexy versus stiff.
    Fin socks cover your foot but add one shoe size to your foot in the summer.
    Fin boots cover your foot and ankle but add at least a couple of shoe sizes in the winter.
    There are foot lubricants to help reduce skin rub if you would rather go without neoprene socks or boots.

    Hi Jay. A question about choosing the right fin for the types of waves ridden. Are there some fin styles/brands work better for hollow, sucky beachbreak waves versus more lined up, point waves? Where I ride, it's often just a couple of kicks right under the lip to get going. I currently use the Da Fin Pro Model, but I have some issues with them. What is your advice?
    BTW, I've bought a few products through your website, and it's been a great experience (Science Launch F4 + leash). Thank you!

    What brand of fins are these with the "T" looking letter on top? I wouldn't mind trying the symmetric Black/ Green ones

    Hi Jay, you said fins help to control the speed? What do you mean?
    To control the direction, ok but the speed, who you doing?
    Thanks

      When you know that you love them and they work for you it's definitely a good idea to have a spare pair. I do the same! - Rob

      If they work for you stick with them. It can be quite a challenge finding a fin that suits and feels comfortable.

    O&E swim fins. Only swim fins to not give me flipper sores. Symetric set. Love them. Foot pocket drain. Just great. Really big deal when getting back into the sport.

    Should I get neoprene socks for dafin fins. Just wondering.

    • @420Jon69
      @420Jon69 Před rokem

      I would get them no matter what kind of fins you get. I would even suggest the booties even in warm water. It does a good job of keeping the sand rocks and shells out

    vipers are too soft now days. my old one finally broke after 15 years. i never thought it would break. i went to look for new vipes and was disappointed. i like um stiff, tight and can go left and right. when i go big i used shoelaces. its not good when they get yanked off your feet and you trying to ride a big bowl hahaa.

    • @BodyboardSchool
      @BodyboardSchool Před 3 lety

      If your feet can handle them, a stiff pair of flippers are great! So much more propulsion!
      Shoes laces are a good call, never great searching the shoreline for a missing flipper, we have all been there :)
