My Neurologist diagnosed me with Autoimmune Pernicious Anemia B12 deficiency. I get an injection once a month. I see comments here that some only get a injection every 3 months. If I went that long without an injection, I would end up being hospitalized. You have to ask for the blood test to check for B12 deficency. For some reason, most doctors do not include this with routine blood testing and it should be so.
Yep. I can barely make it one month. I currently do an injection at 3wks. Those doing it every 3 months are from UK and they do not do cyanocobalamin. I believe they receive hydroxocobalamin. Thank you for correctly calling in Autoimmune PA. I have had some doctors tell me that it isn’t an autoimmune disease. So frustrating.
It's a crime that this test is not routine.
@@casey617, those doctors are full of it. When I was first diagnosed, I began researching B12 Deficiency and PA because I knew absolutely nothing about it. According to my research, PA is an autoimmune disease. Sources: Mayo Clinic, The Cleveland Clinic and Johns-Hopkins and to many more to name.
I get 2 injections per month.
If you're getting injections of B12, make sure your doctor is using methylcobalamin, which is the active or coenzyme form of B12. Never use cyanocobalamin.
One more excellent video on this channel. It's worth mentioning that if you are taking B12 supplementation by any form, sublingual, oral or injection, only use methylcobalamin, which is the coenzyme or active form of vitamin B12. Decline any other form of B12.
I had extreme tiredness, poor eating habits, memory loss, breathlessness
I was diagnosed with low foliate and something else, I can't remember lol
Lol I can relate
I have Pernicious Anaemia. It took me years of to-ing and fro-ing to the GP with my symptoms to get a diagnosis. I had pins and needles constantly in my hands and feet. I was exhausted to the point that getting out of bed to go to work was a real challenge. My memory had gone from being amazing to forgetting so many things. The corners of my lips were all cracked and sore and my tongue became so painful I was living on milkshakes and soup. Eating was unbearably painful. I began getting infection after infection. My GP diagnosed me with depression. Then I was told it was all in my head. Next it must be hormonal. It wasn't until I was at the end of my tether when I saw a locum GP at my surgery that anyone considered checking my B12 levels. They were low, surprise! Next came the fight for the correct treatment. My GP stated I only needed the initial loading doses then I'd have another blood test and if that was within normal range I'd not require any further treatment. After the loading doses my B12 levels had risen. Well, obviously! Thankfully I went in armed with the NICE guidelines (im in the UK) which stated the bloods needed to include the Active B12. Also stated that PA requires treatment for life with B12 injections at least every 12 weeks. PA and other B12 deficiencies in general are way more common than we realise and is significantly under diagnosed and it is so simple to test for!
Oh geez. I've had these symptoms for years, going back into my teen years. I've been underweight and deficient in a host of other vitamins though which is what I've always been told (iron deficiency and I need to eat more) but even after infusions the symptoms have never gone away. Might get this checked out, cheers for the wake up call 😅
Your doctor sounds low-key useless tbh and I'm sorry it took so long to work out what was going on. I just had our med-school lecture on B12 deficiency and basically if someone presents with long term tiredness and shortness of breath we should immediately suspect anaemia and that the blood test should include testing for folate, iron and B12 levels (because yes, testing deficiency for these nutrients and testing for anaemia is easy). I'm also shocked that your GP didn't know B12 deficiency treatment is for life. I'm glad you have it sorted and I wish you all the best!
I hate it when doctors say "it's all in your head" when they can't diagnose properly 🙄
@Trina It’s a separate test to regular blood tests and cost around £46. I have B12 deficiency I get a injection every three months. Just keep asking them or go to a different doctor.

The music is very distracting ,

It really is.

Agreed -everything has an annoying musical background - WHY - we only want the information!!!!
@ Owen B it is very distracting. The video is very informative & straight forward. The music we can do without. Great information though.

This is an eye opener for me!!! Wow I have almost every stmptom
Having low stomach acid cause poor absorption of vitamin b12 so it is important to take a digestive enzyme supplement along with it. Try to eliminate gluten from diet as it stops the body absorbing nutrients from foods.
Also stop coffee. It depletes b12 and also makes it hard to absorb vital minerals
Absolutely correct! ✨️
So does Intrinsic Factor Antibodies. Check out Pernicious Anemia Society.
B12 miracle worker. 1500 or 3000 dose. 1500 worked for me. Amazing results. No more arthritic inflammation. No drugs.
Great information! Now I have an idea of why I’ve been in a fog! Thanks!
I was diagnosed as being seriously on the verge of pernicious anemia and had 2 weeks course of B12 injections now i have 1every 3 months,
Thank you for educating sir !from India .
Too much medication is not good but maintaining good B12 is important as oxygen levels improve. Having Vitamin C rich food also aids B12 absorption.

This is so good. I know my body doesn’t do B12 the way it should. I’ve been taking a methylate B12 supplement but I’m not consistent. I need to get this changed. I’m so exhausted having focus and motivation issues. Thanks for this.
Well, I know that vegetarians use a sprinkle version of it on their meals often-times
They used to treat this condition with food high in iron and B12 to counter the problems low B12 cause to the blood cells. If your problem is due to your gut not being able to extract B12 from food, you need to get B12 injected into the muscle. If you ask for this you should start to feel better in about three months. My experience is I feel good for about 6 weeks after a jab and then get another at 8 weeks to stop the decline, but I think lots of people are different and for women the cycle may come in to play.
Can you do a review of MCT oil? it's thought to improve physical/cognitive performance, decrease brain fog, increase energy, improve gut health and even reduce ADHD symptoms!
Thank you Dr. Very helpful information.
Dr. Legrand, thank you, thank you, thank you for this information
I eat right and still take various supplements. I would rather have my body flush it out instead of lack some vitamins that are necessary for the body to function well
I had tinnitus in my ears. I got complete cure of this problem by taking Vitamin B12.

oh wow, this explains a lot.
I like this Dr!
I to , is was like you, had the 6 injections, that didn’t work , then a course of pills for 6 weeks, turned out with my medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol , another box of the same pills turned up in my bag , from the pharmacy , and when my husband turned up in the surgery to ask if l needed another dose, Ohh no was the reply a mistake, beggers belief and I’m still no better.
Excellent 👍
But my doc won’t test for B12 deficiency . Says I don’t need it. Does the same when I ask for Vit D
This makes sooooo much sense! The amount of suffering I have gone through the last two years has been unbelievable! I went from 198 pounds to currently 86 pounds. My life has been hell at 40 years old. We just discovered my critically low B12 and Vit. D I’ve started weekly B12 shots but my counts are barely coming up. Like my body isn’t holding onto it. My Vit. D levels have gone from 3.4 to 5 being on 50,000 iuis a week. But this B12 stuff is zero fun. 😢
I wish you healing and a full recovery. I'm sure it is so beyond frustrating and disheartening, but just know some random stranger out there is rooting for you. ✨️

Anemia is rare in B12 deficiency. Neurological signs and symptoms occur FIRST. These can manifest as pins and needles, numbness, tinnitus, visual obscurations.
B12 is pernious Anemia
I had every symtom, except hallucinations, thank goodness I'm already anemic and my body is killing me worse than ever, I just started taking vitamins B, and D and still anemic I can't retain any strength, I feel like I'm in the 90's I walk 💯 over ,remind me of the way my grammy walked, I can only walk about 20 steps and must stop to take a break ,I'm dizzy ,but I refuse to give up on my body and at 53yrs old, I hopeful have a long way to go!!! I am going to keep taking my vitamins, iron was prescribed to...I had my 🛑 stapled over 35 years ago and SHOW have been taking vitamins that whole time ,I kick myself in the bum for being sooo foolish and not understanding the vital importance of vitamins, expically having had that surgical procedure and 10 yrs after my initial surgery I had a bowel obstruction and went into emergency surgery, still not thinking about vitamins, all my levels came back normal most of the time ,when I had bloodwork done ,little did I know, my dr wasn't checking all my levels ,time for a new dr too ,she's messed up 1to many times ,I will get my 💪 back ,and run some day with my grandchildren ❤ Thank u so much for this video!!

Interesting! But the music is a bad choice. Its distracting and annoying.
I started getting hypopigmentation spots on my chest and shoulders . Nobody talks about this ..
@carolinelaronda4523
Was this because of your Vitamin B12 deficiency or because you were taking a B12 supplement?
I'm confused: Hyper is a prefix derived from the Greek word for "over," and Hypo is a Greek prefix that means "under."
Did you develop excessive pigmentation in the areas you mention (i.e., hyper=over). Or did you experience a lack of pigmentation (i.e., hypo=under) in those areas?
Do you mean hyperpigmentation?
I thought that was due to vitamin C deficiency.. is that from a lack of B12 also??
I love music all the way . Music is my life .i live music sleep music eat music i only can be music notthing else

Why don't you send your video and information to your colleagues and NHS and World Health Organisation. Why is this vital information not known by GP and specialists.
Should i still take this if i have high rbc's?
Thanks for great info. All I knew was that vegetarians had to get B12 because of their diet. And that as long as we carnivorous kept eating meat there was no need to worry about B12.
I take a B complex and had some blood work done , my B12 was 1540........... I read that this shouldnt happen , because we dont store it on our body. But my Dr said its normal , and I have been so tired for a couple mths , sleeping way more hours at night , and napping in the mid morns , I quit the complex and ask her to re test me . Is high B12 normal? If you just take one B complex a day , ?? Why are all the good Drs on youtube , and not in Florida , lol
B complex doesn't have b12 in it. Hope that helps
B12 is stored, that's a little higher than optimal but just avoiding B12 supplements for a while should take it back to normal.
@@sarahhanson7127 Mine does
I’m not a doctor but I’m pretty sure there’s a big differences between having b12 in your blood (blood work) and having it actually available in your cells. ??
See a Naturopathic doctor that studied biochemistry. Alternately a functional medicine doctor. Also make sure the b12 you take is methylated form and not the synthetic form.
Hi! A lot of effects you speak about are also in the multiple sclerosis and I 'm lucky enough to have both... Can I have '''only'' a vitamin b12 deficiency and being diagnose with MS only because the blood work hav'nt been done corectly?

You need to look at your folate deficiency in combination with B12. Both should be taken as (methylated forms)
I don't know if you read your comments or not, but do any of the vitamin B's effect your kidneys? I was drinking a lot of a certain energy drink and my nurse said that the vitamin B's damaged my kidneys. Could this be true?

With all the additives tnat are put in processed foods you would think that they could add B12!

Dr. LeGrand, I deliberately searched for this information but what do I find? I can’t watch this video! Please, when you’re putting these videos together would you just give a seconds thought to your viewers needs? Try sublingual drops, sprays, or tabs. A lot of people have a hard time absorbing b12 when taken orally, so using sublingual b12 (under the tongue) bypasses the stomach and is absorbed by your body. Try sublingual. Happy healing! ✨️
Take methylcobalamin under your tongue and hold it there as long as you can. It's better absorption than injections.

What about the B12 that has Cyanide in the pill? My Rexall B
12 shows in the ingredients “ Cyanocobalamin”?
a vitamin found in foods of animal origin such as liver, fish, and eggs, a deficiency of which can cause pernicious anemia; vitamin B12. It contains a cyanide group bonded to the central cobalt atom of a cobalamin molecule.
I avoid cyanocobalamin as its synthetic and I was severely b12 deficient despite supplementing with that. My biochemist put me on methylcobalamin and all was soon right in the world of me.
Can you take too much B12? I’ve had roux en y surgery and my go says my B12 is too high. Stopping it made my hair fall out, I was tired and my depression went through the roof.
Same here…my b12 is too high according to my GP, and she is demanding I stop the b12. I had Roux en Y surgery 35 years ago, my grandfather died from pernicious anemia, and I take thyroid meds…I feel it is reckless to stop taking b12.
B12 might be high in your blood, but it's not necessarily being absorbed and utilized. There are additional blood work tests to confirm absorption. In other words, even if it's high in your blood, you might still be very deficient in B12. Speak to your Dr on this or find a new Dr.
@@traceytansley1659 Thanks for the info!
Could try taking methylfolate (b9). It may help balance things out. Check with a chemist. Drugpushing doctors arent usually that educated on vitamins and biochemistry. Naturopathic doctors with biochemistry degrees or functional medicine doctors might be more useful.

For someone 12 yrs post bariatric surgery, prone to anemia, suffering neuropathy in my feet, swelling/severe edema in my calves. I want to hulk up my B1 & B12. I found drops that habe methyl, hydroxo and adenoseno carbalamin. Will this be more effective than cheaper cyanocobalamin? I fight neuropathy and want to get off diuretics and gabapentin. So I want the absolute best ass kicking B vitamin supplementation. Are there dangers with using the triple cobalamin drops?
People that had bariatric surgery need B12 injections. B12 is absorbed in the gut and bariatric surgery makes absorption difficult. Oral B12 will not be absorbed and only 1 to 2% of sublingual B12 is absorbed. There are many B12 deficiency groups on FB that can help. Good luck.
I avoid cyanocobalamin. It is synthetic. My biochemist recommended active form methylcobalamin. Nothing cheap is worth it if it keeps causing health issues and requiring further doctors appointments.
Is it ok to take B12 as a supplement despite that you’re not having B12 deficiency?
A lot of people do.
Yes for repairing nerve damage and symptom relief
yes because your body does not naturally make B12
You need to consider a few things, 1. Supplements only supply one chain of the vitamin, whereas foods can provide thousands of them. 2. Getting too much can cause disease as much as deficiency can. 3. Are you in an energy deficit or do you have the energy you need to perform your daily tasks and activities?
I’m on shots weekly and asked could it become too much B12 at some point? I was told we urinate out the B12 we don’t need by my Dr. However I do have a severe B12 deficiency and critically low Vit. D 😩
Sublingual B12 methylcobalamin is the best way to get b12 in your system.
Yup! ✨️
This is what my biochemist Naturopathic doctor advised and it worked for me! Gave me my life back after two decades of suffering that all doctors didnt know was real or how to fix.
@@cornypinkuni9519what symptoms you had..
@@NikolaNacevski-bf6ipvery low energy, weak and exhausted, fatigue wanted to sleep a lot, oxygen hunger(shortness of breath, inflammation pain through body from minor exercise like walking for 20 minutes, occasional anxiety, occasionally low mood (depression). ALL of these resolved very quickly (within 3 days) from taking methycobalamine b12 along with methylfolate b9. A blood test had showed my b12 quite low despite eating b vitamin foods, managing stress, and taking b vitamins but in the wrong form, also rarely drink alcohol so it wasnt that reducing my b vitamins. After my ND saw the blood test, having heard all my other symptoms she put me on active form b vitamins mentioned b12 and b9 in the methylated form that is, and had me obtain a dna test which when it returned, showed 2 copies (one from each parent, in my case) of common gene variant of the mthfr gene (methyl-tetra-hydro-folate reductase) and related gene variants. Within 3 days on the recommended form of b vitamins I felt super well rested and was bouncing out of bed with the energy I had between the ages of 16 and 23. No more debilitating fatigue, had energy again for exercise and housework and career and a social life again. My mood was good no matter what stressors were happening. My blood marker returned to optimal level for b12. My mood stabilized and still feeling amazing over a year later. My performance review at work says I doubled my output, which i attribute to being able to focus better and mental clarity once the symptoms all resolved. Now I'm seeing a fitness coach to gradually get strong again which is much easier now that I have regular stable energy. I learned from the reading I've done since that over one third of people are affected by this gene variant. I also learned that in my case, having 2 copies of that gene variant (one from each parent) meant I had approx 70% less energy than most people. If someone only has one variant copy of the gene and one normal copy of the gene, they might only have 30% less energy or notice the effects more subtly.

PLEASE HELP! I was getting my blood drawn and the tech said my blood looks like “oatmeal”. Enlarged red blood cells, and a high amount of red blood cells. Do I have too many red blood cells?
Large red cells means they are not maturing, a sign of pernicious anemia. As blood cells mature they get smaller and change shape.
Sounds like megaloblastic anemia
Pernicious anemia?
I have SIBO (9 years). I have multiple symptoms of b12 deficiency but my gp has done full blood count and says I have plenty. I told her that because of SIBO I don't get to utilise what's in my blood.... She says that's nonsense. What's your opinion. Please respond
That's right, it should be delivered in the body not to stay in the blood. So blood levels don't say much.
Oof. Change doctors. Also, try sublingual b12 (under the tongue). You have to search specifically for sublingual b12. Because sibo affects the gut, it will be hard to absorb b12, as you said. The sublingual route ensures that your body absorbs it because it doesn't go the oral/stomach route. Happy healing! ✨️

The other place I would consider going is to a functional medicine doctor. Or a geneticist aware of which gene variants impact or impede synthetic b vitamin processing in the body.
Also, consider doing a wheat free experiment and see how it impacts you. Wheat in north america is fortified with synthetic b vitamins that 30-60% of the population cant easily process. Try going one week with zero wheat (not easy it's in vurtually everything processed). Stick with meat veggies and fruit and zero wheat. See how you feel.
@@cornypinkuni9519 are you in UK. If so where did you go??? Most places I used to know of that specialised in "alternative medicine" have all gone.
I've took B12 a year ago for a week and started again a week ago and both times I got severe head aches
Check to see if you were taking cyanocobalamin. Cyano, as in cyanide. Only use the active / coenzyme form called methylcobalamin.
@higherresolution4490 why please? I have both.
●How can we dissolve our shortage?
●What are is a good brand for vitamine B12?
●Which food should we eat?
I have heard about getting B12 shots...?
When is that needed?
I have also heard that the damage caused by a B12 shortage is irreversible...? Is that true??
