    As a New Zealander and an avid ABs supporter, I have to say I'm embarrassed by that episode of "The Breakdown." That is not how we view our rugby.
    The ABs were outplayed by a far superior team on the night; end of story!
    It is now time for us to look at how we control our game under the rules and conditions that everyone else in the RWC are playing under. It doesn't get any fairer than that.
    Well done our Springbok brothers, you gave us lots of lessons to learn from.
    Sorry about our commentators.

      I am a bok supporter and have toured before and encountered many NZ supporters. The best in the world and they know their ruggers better than anyone. They know a spanking when they see one and indeed were gracious in defeat. One sour grapes pundit show does not a true New Zealand supporter make ... more concerning is that SA did no one any favors by waking them up. See you in the final hopefully ... it's the gold standard fixture.

      FYI the commentator Patrick Gower is not a Rugby Pundit, he is a political hack that knows nothing about rugby and was part of the corrupt nz media that took money from the Govt for positive news stories. Jeff Wilson and this show is sponsored by NZ Rugby so are never critical of the ABs. Our independent media outlets, not paid for by NZ Rugby were highly critical--this show is a bit of a joke over here.

    Excellent. Thanks for covering this! I remember their episodes after the Ireland series loss.. some of the most biased pundits I've EVER heard!

    • @MayMcCann
      @MayMcCann Před 8 měsíci

      After the Ireland series they were very complimentary with the exception of Goldie. JK spent his time criticizing the ABs (he tipped Ireland to win before the series), Marshall said he could see it in the stadium that Ireland had it. Isa Nacewa was delighted for Ireland of course.
      It was only Goldie who made excuses for the ABs. His penchant for blaming reffing decisions is getting a bit out of control. He has become that child that calls cheat whenever they lose.

    Funny! Nice one, Tim! I must say, I've seen scores of comments from NZ supporters who downright slated The Breakdown and apologized on behalf of NZ. They also complimented the Springboks on a well-deserved win. SO, I concur. The fans handled it great but the pundits had a mental meltdown.
    Fans at the game said the atmosphere was electric and Twickenham was buzzing. I personally did not get bored watching the game on the telly. Perhaps the pundits are on some combination of speed, cocaine and caffeine that the game bored them to death. Most of the stoppages were from penalties requiring set piece play which points to lack of discipline. TMO's always take time but in my opinion the way the bunker system works is awesome as it does not add time to the TMO or referee decision and every single bunker decision came so quickly when the ref called it on the field that you could easily miss it. In fact, I think the bunker system may well shorten TMO times if used properly.
    So, if the pundits want the game to flow more, they should advocate for teams to maintain stricter discipline in their gameplay. I wonder how many minutes of the 107 minute game were due to infringements or penaltiesand the following set piece preparation versus the actual time taken for TMO decisions. Perhaps The Breakdown could divulge that those stats to us too.
    I hardly ever watch The Breakdown as I find the commentators overbearing and pompous. I get my commentary from Eggchasers, Brenden Nel, The Black Jersey, Alfred Reynolds, Squidge, TAS Analytics, Two Cents, World Rugby, Wildkard and Inside Rugby with Mark Philpott. They are not all balanced, but you go out of your way to keep your comments as fair as you can give them, so thank you for that.

      Surely the bunker system enables the game to FLOW better, allowing the referee to play on while a yellow card incident is reviewed. It doesn’t delay the game at all - these butt-hurt Kiwi pundits are just fishing for something to pin their humiliation on…

    I’m glad that someone finally said something about that episode of The Breakdown, as a Saffa I love watching the breakdown but I felt like the Boks were not given credit at all for their performance and it went on and on and on about the things how the game was ruined. Also saw a lot of people complain about the 7-1 split and I don’t see how that’s a problem because it’s a big risk from our side too, had it not happened worked out for the Boks then no one was gonna complain about it but now that people have seen how well it worked and maybe they see that on a good day no forward pack would be able to stand up to the Springboks then “World Rugby has to do something about it “ that’s just ridiculous. We are probably not gonna use that 7-1 split again but it’s very disappointing seeing these kind of comments from pundits, ex coaches and ex rugby players

      You forgot one thing though, they blame everyone except the all black players themselves, Barrett went off feet to a player not competing for the ball, which is foul play and any good pundit should have asked what is the mitigating factors since the rule says if it is foul play and intentional there are no mitigating factors, which was exactly what Barrett had done. So it should have been straight red. We have seen red cards before for something like this. He went in with the shoulder as well, which means his actions were always illegal.

    • @clearnormality12
      @clearnormality12 Před 8 měsíci

      I have to disagree with that. The bunker should only be used when the on field ref requests it and to confirm groundings etc. We have a lot of issues in the NRL with bunker interference and then 2 days later saying they got the calls wrong which could have changed the game and its the same thing here. I think that's the issue with the bunker IMO.
      The card against Barrett was 100% warranted and this is also when the bunker should be used but not to make calls during a game as it takes the power away from on field referees. Everything looks wrong when slowed down frame by frame.
