You asked, we answered! This is a short DIY tutorial on Surfboard Art-How To Give Your Board a Cool Custom Spray for all of the fans and subscribers who have been admiring the custom spray paint jobs Craig adds to his boards. The process is straightforward and you can DIY in your backyard at home in about 10 minutes!
See the FULL Tutorial with Images & Descriptions: bit.ly/1VJRmS6
    The process is simple:
    1) Pick up your spray paint colours of choice, a sponge (e.g., car wash sponge) and a plastic bag to protect your hand while you paint
    2) Decide on a pattern for your spray
    3) Apply the spray paint to the sponge and apply to the board evenly
    4) Allow 24 hours for the paint to fully dry
    5) Use a very light grit wet/dry sand paper to smooth the finish
    6) Add a tailpad (if that's your thing) and go!
    7) From CZcams fan, Kalem: 'I would spray the whole board over with a clear acrylic spray paint with a few coats then lightly sand back with 1200 grade sandpaper, stops the paint scratching and fading over time' - Thanks Kalem!

I would spray the whole board over with a clear acrylic spray paint with a few coats then lightly sand back with 1200 grade sandpaper, stops the paint scratching and fading over time.
Did this to my board but with Posca Pens instead and its holding up perfectly and has a natural fiberglass looking finish to it

So after painting and clear coating have you experienced the tail pad not sticking as well or peel up? got a new stick for kitesurfing and wanna give it some personality but afraid that my full deck pads won't stick. Any advice? tnx

  • @siegfriedswanepoel2088

will the spray paint stay on during surf or do you need to put like a sealer above it.

Once you've finished spray painting it like that should you spray like a gloss on top just to seal it?

Yes, was at Freshy on a break here from Bali.
      Craigs board really jumped out.
You can also use a sponge to wash the board down with water then add Posca then sponging it all over whilst still wet. Craigs Spray paint method seems easier maybe so that's good to know.
Ahh Same as Kalem, just saw that. Yeh it's easy. Cept you don't have to bother sanding back if you use White Knight Satin clear here in oz. Gives a decent finish alone.
Its awesome to see people having a crack at the paint more and more.

I thought it was supposed to be a cool paint job. You could train a monkey to do this job. Sorry JMO.
Maybe use some masking tape to add some character. Sorry mate, you screwed up a brand new board.
