- Many have worries on how to paint carbon fibre bike. In this video you will see how I painted my naked CF bike frame with new custom colours. This guide also includes how I resurfaced my CF frame with 2K epoxy to ensure that any surface removed by the stripping of previous colours are restored before the next coat of paint.
I am not a professional painter, some of the methods I used where improvised and done probably best within my budget and resources. Definitely not anywhere near a professional painter, but I definitely enjoyed the process. I will be extremely grateful if my video helps you to solve some of your painting struggles.

Using epoxy base primers or any paint of this category needs a thorough washing before any sanding.
The reason, the anine blush. Sanding before washing will just push the blush in the scratches done by the sandpaper abrasives.
This is the cause of delamination between the coats.

I wanted to see how the bike looked when it was completed, not just the frame. But I just found the link where you show the whole bike completed, hehehe. Great work all around though! I'm itching to do this to my Roubaix and I'm thinking either Boost Blue from Honda or a cement gray like the Canyon I wanted to originally buy, but just one solid color and the little stripe below the seatpost. Thanks William! For acrylic paint wait at least 24 hours. I suggest u spray on a test piece to try out on the drying time and type of sticker u used. Some stickers will leave residue after removal. Due to the the paint melting the adhesive. If this happens using a zippo fluid might be helpful to remove the residue. Enjoy your DIY!

Typically at least 1 hr wait for paint to reach touch dry condition, it also depends on the weather condition. Thanks for watching!

This bike was really easy to assemble czcams.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

is their a specific type of paint for cf to protect UV rays.
If your cf is not covered by primer or base coat then you need some sort of uv resistant clear coat for protection. Can google to see if it's available at your region.
Hi,i've tried spraying my fishing reel which is made of carbon fibre. I'm not a pro so just bought normal spray and sprayed it on but even after weeks it just won't dry up!!! Redo a few times till i give up. Any tips on what i should do instead? TIA..
Hi, if you're painting in cool climate you might want to consider some sort of baking process to speed up drying. Try to apply in multiple thin coats instead of thick coats and allow each coat to dry before applying the next.

why not apply black decals for the logo after the main coat, then spray the clear coat after it? is that not possible?
Hi 👋, the method you proposed is possible too. It depends on the type of stencil used, i would adopt the method u proposed if i have a cut out stencil.

Where to order the decal logo? Thanks for making this video, it inspire me to do the same.
U can buy from aliexpress. But keep in mind that those stickers are permanent type. U can still use them as stencil like i did but will require a more tedious process of removing the adhesive residue. Can be done using zippo lighter fluid. Is best u order vinyl decal from your local vinyl sticker cutting supplier. Example of preferred vinyl such as oracal they are more temp type can be removed easier after painting. Are you using 2k clear coat for the final finish? How does the finish wear?
Finish is 1k clear coat. I did it on home based diy setup, as 2k (polyurethane) is too harmful, I do not recommend using 2k if is done at home.
In terms of wear, 1k is not as wear resistance as 2k, anyway for 1k any scratch can easily be removed using 2500 grit sand paper and polished to regain the gloss. If the scratch is too deep, then retouch with another coat of clear coat. For 2k retouching might be an issue if a new 2k is spray on top. Cracks might occur when coating is too thick or drying is insufficient especially without an oven. The chances of cracking are extremely high with 2k spray cans.
1k will wash off with degreaser/petrol. Total waste of time to save $15.
You used 2k primer so clearly health risks were negligible

One question Bro. U ARE using spray can paint after masking the selected section with masking tape how to remove their adhesive because i use petrol the whole paint also remove with adhesive 😂
You can use a cotton pad apply some zippo lighter fluid onto it and rub it gently. Caution: apply only on dried paint.

Hi Shah, i used an orbital sander for initial sanding followed by sand paper. Is a tough and lengthy process, be patient.
@@mkwerks Im too scared to use the orbital sander, Im currently doing it all by hand 400-600-800 grit sandpaper
where do you get the brand stickers from?
I did my own cuttings from vinyl sticker print out via laser printer.

Hi Jang, no you cant use paint remover for carbon frame. I used an orbital sander followed by sand paper. Is a tough lengthy process. Be patient if u are going to do it.

Sand paper. Do not recommend chemical on carbon frame.
