- I love my Firewire Baked Potato. This 5'5 nugget of a surfboard has brought me no end of joy on smaller days. But, it has seen some wars, been aged by the sun and had all kinds of battle scars. So, I thought why not take this extra time I have on my hands during the Coronavirus #stayathome pandemic and breath so new life into the old girl.
In this video I am going to show you how I paint an old surfboard from start to finish, thank you for watching and please subscribe and drop a comment.
Stay safe n sane during these difficult times and see you for a wave on the other side. - Jak na to + styl
Great job looks really good, gotta love those things that fall right in place, like the fact that it looks so good without painting the deck .
Good idea to do to my Alternator
Thank you...I miss my alternator. Be cool to see how it turns out.
Awesome job dude! It's amazing what a new coat of paint can do. The board is a beaut!
Thanks for watching 🤙😊 yeah i have been surfing it so much more now.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to try priming with magnetic paint then chalkboard paint on the bottom side.
That sounds cool, would love to see the finished result! Happy painting 🤙🤙
Yes , I like it. Going to repair my long boards myself during this Covid thing. Trying to learn on color blending the repairs before I do anything. Thanks. Good job!
M Campbell thank you for watching, good luck with the board ;)
Sweet! The colour way works great with the faded deck!
Thank you 😊
Love it! Just what I was trying to ask you about! And you happened to have a video, so perfect!
Masaki Shinzato stoked i could help matey, its a fun project...there are also some good artists around that paint boards etc.
Came up really good mate. That washed greened was awesome🤙
Thanks mate, appreciated
Had me at, “ haha screw that, here’s a time lapse!!” Nice vid. 😎🤙

Oh hey dude!! Long time! I remember watching that original board review haha 😄
Nice to see you and the board alive and kicking still! 🤙🏽
Those board rule. I’ve had my since 2009-10 or so and still love it in crap surf
That looks SAF!!! That was way easier than I thought it would be. You killed it!!! Great job!!!🤙

Nice vid buddy ...great option for those magic carpet boards that start to yellow ...
Thank you 😊 yeah it is such a mental shift to see it look all shiny again 😂
Dig the music , great vid mate 👍🏼
Thank ya :)
She came out killer! U chose the rt shade green... def leave her as is 🤙🏾
Thank you 😊 i am really happy with it.
And no it looks perfect as it now. That light creamy green goes perfect with the top. Plus the yellow fins match too!
Do a quick review of the board after all these time. I remember you were the first few to upload a review of that board when it first came out
Still one of my favorite boards to ride in smaller or more walled out waves...i think you have a better memory than i do...super appreciated 🙏🙏😊😊🏄🤙
I like how it turned out. I'm thinking about painting a Moonbeam that I just picked up.
Thanks for watching and thank you. It’s super cool to refresh an older board.
Sick job man 🤙
Thank you 🙏
looks great
Thank you 🙏
I have to comment sometime for my ocd gotta make it 100 so here u r
My OCD and ego thank you 😊😜🤙
looks good
Brody Ellis thank you 🙏
Great video, thanks. For what it's worth, I'd leave it as is, without painting the deck: it looks excellent.
Thank you and thanks for watching, i ended up leaving it as it is in the video ;)
Nice job, good timing I’m doing a board right now
Thank you and thanks for watching...are you repainting an old favorite?
Can I have one ☝️ 😊? Thanks for sharing
Haha thanks for watching 😊🙏
Blue Pacific Media your welcome men .
🤙🏄🤙
You scored the best Rapidfire constructed board ever! The deck looks sweet. Mine compressed itself into a soggy messy in 12 months.
I'm planning on painting an Evo...
Thank you for the tips!
Yeah i have had so much luck with firewire boards...my helium seaside is freakin’ indestructible...thanks for watching 😊😊
FST and LFT have served me well. Never had an issue with either. I think my first Evo must be 6 years old by now? I have a couple of FST kite construction boards that are bulletproof!
My Helium Chumlee was awesome and tough until one day a waist high reverse put my heel through the deck, swapped it out for a... Seaside, and it is still mint after 2 years. :)
Gotta have battle scars 😉 proof of life 🤙😜
You should paint the whole board
Thanks for watching, that board is long gone…still think about how it may have looked fully painted though.
Hey brother great video, you inspired to me buy a fixer upper board and paint it myself! Looks like shit now, hopefully it’ll look good when done 😂
Awesome 😎 thanks for watching…hope it turns out killer!
Hi! Quick question, when you used the acrylic water mix do you think it would be possible to use that mix for more intricate designs?
Thanks for watching. I am in no way an expert on painting, but i would say that for more intricate work you would need to use less water so the paint doesn’t run as much.
NICE! Love tge green!
You coulda gone with a pale orange-yellow like the fins! On top - similar technique as the bottom! Just sayin!
Maybe on a future board...thanks for the feedback and for watching the video.
i have a board i just painted and need to clear coat it to surf it. the top of it is foam and the bottom is a plastic. i painted the back of the board and the rails. what clear coat do i use?
Jordan 10102 sounds cool, is it a softtop? I am not sure about the foam on those as they are mailable but as a general rule of thumb i use an acrylic clear coat on acrylic paint.
Hey, congrats for this nice job and having done also a great relaxing video. Was nice to watch. Would you mind giving me the paint product that you have used? I would like to paint a windsurf board.
Thank you and thanks for watching...just a standard acrylic paint, found at pretty much any DIY store...in Japan so brand will be different and I don’t really remember sorry.
Quick question, I picked up a pretty beat shortboard with loads of heal marks. Will they show as much after paint?
Love your work, thanks.
It depends on the colours you use and the pattern you will design on it. Try hiding the heal marks by placing a design on top of it and use a darker colour or multiple to hide the markings 🙂
Hey man! It looks sick! Would you recommend doing more layers of the acrylic paint? Also what brand is the paint?
Loved the vid dude!
Thanks man, stoked you liked it. 🤙🙏 Just grabbed some acrylic paint off the shelf at the DIY store. More layers would make it more opaque, and may lose some of the effect.
@@BluePacificMedia thanks appreciate it!
As is for sure.
Thank you 🙏 more to come.
What grit sandpaper did you use to do the light sanding on the logo???
Not 100% sure but i think it was 400.
What type of paint mixed with Epoxy resin I'm guessing . Awsome cool yes leave it with the yellowing on the board .
Not resin, this was just acrylic paint sealed with clear coat Acrylic spray
Thank you for watching 🤙🙏😊
What was the ratio of water to paint? tried this out and royally screwed it up and im pretty sure its because my ratios were off!
No real science to it, just add more water to make it more translucent...I think mine was a little over 60/40 more water. i did find it was harder with red and yellow than with blue or green.
Did you use acrylic paint
Question sir? Did the paint job endured the waves/water in the last few months? Thanks
Thank you for watching...the paint is perfect, sealed under the clearcoat.
Awesome video can’t wait to start on mine!! And what clear coat spray did you use ?
Thank you, its an acrylic clear coat.
Blue Pacific Media Thankyou so much have a great rest of your evening(:
Nice video man! Did you use water for mixing the paint?
Yes just tap water...thank you for watching 🤙😊
Hey! Does anyone know what kind of paint he is using? And what us the clear coat, is it varnish?
James Humann it’s acrylic paint and acrylic clear coat. Any hardware store will sort you out
@@BluePacificMedia Hey thank you for responding *subscribe*! Board looks awesome by the way.
As is I reckon.
Thanks for watching and letting me know...yep i think i will leave it as is...still have a couple of more boards to paint.
What type of paint was used and what did you mix it with? Looks great
Thank you...Acrylic paint mixed with water...I cover the process pretty thoroughly in the video 😉😆
@@BluePacificMedia Thank you for the clarification.. I was confused whether or not i heard "acrylic" right 😅 I had another question though..
What's the percentage of this mixture? Did you use 1 part acrylic paint & 1 part water? Or did you use more paint & less water, or the opposite? Thanks in advance 🙏🏾
What did you use to fill the dents before sanding?
Thanks for watching…the dings were all repaired when they happened…just standard fiberglass repairs the sanding was mostly to rough up the surface a little so the paint would adhere better.
do you have to sand the clear gloss coat?
Thanks for watching 🙏 I didn’t sand it at all, just took my time and sprayed it evenly...pretty important to do it in a place that is cool and low humidity...and be sure to clean the surface of dust and finger prints etc beforehand.
What paint you are using sir?
Just a basic acrylic
Awesome, what was the product you used to clear coat it?
Thank you 😊 it was acrylic clear coat, just off the shelf at the hardware store.
Blue Pacific Media thank you!!
Tracklist of songs? Nice video!
Thank you, will put it together and post soon.
What’s the clear coat you used
Just a spray acrylic clear coat from hardware store
Whats the name of the song with the lyrics “im tripping on the darkside”?
Thanks for watching...I thought he said "Darkside"too but it is DarkSky_by_AssafAyalon
@@BluePacificMedia ofc ofc, been getting into painting boards just recently and flipping em and man this video was sincerely the most informative and straightforward ive seen. and the fact that you answer all your comments makes the comment section a whole nother place of good information on the subject. Love it brother🤟🏼
@@Untitlednobody that is awesome, would love to see what you create. Stoked I was able to help. 🤙
@@BluePacificMedia ill send u a pic man
Leave it green bottom and the top as it is looks great
christine allen thank you, yes i will be leaving it as is.
What paint did you use
Robert Fioresi acrylic paint water based
Hey man the board looks awesome! Was curious what ratio you mix the paint and water?
Matt Daly i think it was pretty close to 50/50 but don’t quote me on it...just eyed it.
What kind of paint did you use?
Thank you for watching, just an acrylic based art paint
And what kind of spray did you use?
Wouldnt the acrylic paint come off or did you put a finish on it?
The clear coat i sprayed at the end of the video seals the paint.
thanks you gave us some good ideas i have a hypto krypto epoxy that has gone yellow and needs some love ..gunna go for a light grey with black rails both matte have you used a matte coat ?ah this is bo on my girlfriends account -)
Thanks Bo, sounds like a cool AF color scheme. Haven’t used matte but would be very good! Love that look.
So nice! I am too painting boards (you can check them over time on my Instagram @choni_ribeiro). But I’m doing some with Posca pens. Have you ever used them on surfboards, or do you think acrylic paint is better? And should I use the same spray to finish it? Thanks!
Post pens work fine for most folks and yes I think the same clear coat to seal it works fine. Thank you for watching 😁😁
What's the name of the son in the beginning ?
“Travel” by the Hunts...thank you for watching.
