      I had a boyfriend in college who broke up with me 2 months after my dad died from a 2yr battle with cancer (I was 19.) His reasons were that id "changed" and I was "still really sad all the time" despite it being "a while since he died" and the death was "expected." People like that absolutely exist, and I can confidently say they lack basic human empathy

      @@daniellethompson3725while I know humanity is complex, I think trying to push aside grief, especially someone else’s grief, is very inconsiderate no matter when the death was.
      I have a friend who’s mother unexpectedly passed away and unfortunately had to go back to college not long after the funeral. Though he was only gone for a few weeks before he would return, his uncle took it upon himself to go through some of her personal items, taking some and getting rid of others. He didn’t ask my friend or anyone else for permission and claimed it was to help “speed up” the grieving process.

      My grandfather passed away about 8 years ago and though I have moved on from the stages of grief, I still think about him very often. It doesn’t happen often enough but there have been times where I’ve seen some stranger in public or a tv/movie character who reminds me much of my grandfather. Sometimes these encounters bring me joy and comfort and other times they bring me grief and sadness. I’ve cried a couple times because of it. I think it’s a completely normal reaction to have when you meet someone/see something that largely reminds you of passed love ones.

      If I were that guy, even if I somehow had the weird idea that a woman would be exaggerating I would still AT THE VERY LEAST consider how she feels, that she's scared, and that it takes such little effort to walk her to her car
      Now
      It would be insane for me to believe she's exaggerating considering how many woman get called in the street, and harassed,
      And yes I can agree that no
      Not all guys want to demonstrate such behavior but I would never use a situation like that as an example, like I said

    • @maem7462
      @maem7462 Před 8 měsíci +42

      Exactly. We of course know not every man is trying to jump a girl in a parking garage. Based on those guys statements it seems more likely the thing is there have been enough men who have so of course ppl will be cautious. There are only 2 ways to interpret "I bet she's not as stuck up as the girls at the bar" it either means she will get jumped. Or it means at the very least they will try to hit on her. You never know how ppl react to rejection bc maybe they would become violent and dangerous especially without any witnesses. It's way better to be on the safe side than to possible risk a very dangerous situation.

    There is an update on the double date story: OP spoke to Joel and said how he didn’t like how he was used in that sense. Joel actually wounded up apologizing and was like “I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong when I’m going on these dates” to which OP said that he needs to start getting a little more invested, to which Joel agreed on and said he’ll start trying his best. Meanwhile, Sam and OP’s second date went REALLY well. They went on a few more and now they’re official!

    As a female, a single flower on a first date is very impressionable. It’s more than a sweet gesture, he made her feel special. You don’t know how many times she has received flowers at all, could have been the first time any guy brought her flowers. It’s not like he brought her a bouquet. Women carry purses and stuff, a single rose won’t kill us lol. 😂

      @brittaanson3197 Před 8 měsíci +28

      oh man, I must be the only one who finds this embarrassing? I love to receive flowers at home from someone I care about, but a single rose on a first date? I mean, I don't even know the guy, definitely don't feel romantic about him yet, so it feels kind of cheesy and puts too much pressure for romance. What if we don't hit it off and then I have this awkward souvenir? I'd feel self-conscious carrying it around all night like I'd be on display as being on a first date, which would make me feel more self-conscious than just being on a first date normally would. Because obviously it's a first date. If you're out with someone you've been seeing for a long time, they would just bring you flowers at home when they visit. I've only had a guy bring a single flower to a first date once, but while I appreciated that he was trying to be thoughtful and impress me or something, I just didn't actually like it. But maybe that's just a test of whether people are a good match or not. The fact that this girl seemed to love it means that romantic flower-bringing guys should maybe just go for it and see?

    I love that Ian tried to teach an old man that being polite can be dangerous. I was working at a hotel close to christmas and an old man with a santa hat walked by, smiled at me and told me he liked my festive makeup, and I told him I liked his hat since it was festive too and I wanted to be polite and kind and put on a good face for the hotel. He took that as a "greenlight" (as he tells me later, that in his days giving a compliment back in return was the "greenlight") that I would be receptive to flirtation. He also tried to bribe me into letting him into one of the rooms because he's never been inside one before (it's a semi famous hotel). I told him no and closed the door, locked it, and told the security. They escorted him out of the hotel because he didn't have a room and was just wandering the halls. So creepy that all started with a side compliment on his hat 🙃 politeness is not a "greenlight" to get to know someone or put them in uncomfortable situations. Like,,, we're rude if we don't respond to politeness but we're asking for intimacy if we respond in kind???

      THIS! It’s so hard to know if replying to a stranger could turn into a bad situation. So often if you respond, it’s taken to mean they can continue the interaction when really you were just being polite. And if you ignore them, you also risk a bad situation because you’re “stuck up” etc. it’s a lose-lose situation and there’s no good way WE can control it, it relies on our support systems and the other person knowing when to back off

      @@superphantom100Definitely. I use Kind Guy instead of Nice Guy. Niceness is like a custom service smile and voice. It's a painted on mask that is intended to allow one person to do or say stuff to get something out of the other. It's someone thinking mostly or exclusively of themselves and treating everything like a transaction.
      Kindness is sincere and genuine, it means to think of what the other person wants and needs from them and their interactions. Kindness is seeing a person, seeing them as a whole individual not simply a means to satisfy an end goal, and doing things or pursing them because you want to make them happy, enjoy their company, and wish to see them succeed. I use Wade from Elements as an outstanding example of this. Recognizing someone's fire, passion, seeing its beauty, and doing whatever you can to help without the expectation of anything in return. It doesn't mean to be a push over, Wade definitely didn't simply let her walk on him 24/7, because ultimately Kindness listens and then tells people what the need to here even if they might not understand or like it starting off. Niceness is all talk, to say what one believes a person wants to hear to achieve a means to an end.

How can people argue simultaneously that women need protection, it's men's duty to protect women and be allies, etc, but also that women are all independent and don't need no man and can do anything a man can do? I wouldn't want to go out of my way to protect, aka put MY life at risk, for someone who doesn't respect me and my life in the first place. Besides, independent people don’t 100% exist. Everybody needs help in one way or another, and if they’re not getting it, they’re probably struggling with something. no one is saying that men and women dont have differences in strengths and weaknesses and no one (other than those who believe in stereotypical gendered roles) is saying that it is a man's duty to protect women. What they are saying is that men need to realize that the world isnt a safe black and white place and that just because most men can walk somewhere alone without the fear of getting ambushed, that same reality doesnt apply for any woman.
      No one is asking you to put your life on the line. They are asking that if you hear someone talking about an experience that was/is bad for them, dont just dismiss it as them being over reactive or overly sensitive. As they said in the video, most people dont put themselves in the place of their friends/family/loved ones because they themselves have never been in that situation, have never felt the fear of thinking you may be assaulted or killed. Besides, most of the time you wouldnt be risking your life anyways, assaulters target lone people for a reason, 2 or more people increase the odds for their plot to go wrong with either one of them running off, attacking back, calling the cops, or drawing attention of more people.
      Are you saying that if someone in your life, no matter what gender just someone you have a close connection with like family or friend, ever asked you to help them feel safe in what they feel is a bad situation you would tell them "I dont think you respect me and my life enough so im not going to help you, sorry". Honestly that scene in the recent barbie movie has made a lot of my pals recognise it in a way I have never been able to. The fact that there is an underlying vibe of violence to so many ‘compliments’ thrown at women and how men even with them are only feeling admired is so much what women face every day.

It’s kinda like calling yourself a “good guy”; actions speak louder than words. The community in those marginalized or discriminated groups will tell you if you’re an ally. Specific flowers even have meanings, and I have always thought communicating through this “language” would be the most romantic thing a man could do. So essentially: YES. Bring a flower to a date. Dang, as someone who lost their mom almost a year ago, the amount of random things that will just snap you into a memory with the person is insane. I was eating mini tacos the other day and I was remember a trip we had taken 10 years ago and no longer wanted to eat them because it just made me sad missing her. This one is weird lol, but as a kid whenever my mom would take a sip of pop she would subconsciously make a dramatic “ahhh” afterwards. Then I would do it in union with her right afterwards. Again, I did it the other day while at a friend’s house, and suddenly those emotions came up as the fun memory flooded my brain. That husband absolutely has no authority to tell her that something should cause her to feel emotional thinking about her father. How disrespectful can he be? You don’t have to empathize with what she is feeling, but at least understand that she’s going to be dealing with that for years. My friend from the story lost her mom when she was 9 and she said that there are still things that will cause her to get emotional from time to time. That’s just going to happen for as long as you remember them, so basically your whole life.

      I know crazy people exist and Girls get targeted more, but i think men get the worse of it.

    It was only about a week after my mom passed, and my dad took me to get a new computer. And I started getting emotional in the middle of Walmart because my pincode was my mom's birthday. Nobody cared. The cashier actually understood because he had lost his mom too. Nobody was embarrassed. Grief can just randomly hit you due the most random shit. Hell, I bought some bras a couple of months after her passing, and then I got sad because I couldn't show my mom the cute bras I picked out like I used to when she was alive. Random day to day stuff brings up memories that I sometimes force myself to push away because I don't want to get emotional right then. Thankfully nobody around me has ever been like OP, and nobody has ever made me feel bad for feeling my own grief. It's been two years, and I still randomly get emotional about the most simple things that other people just wouldn't get. Facing the world without that loved one by your side is one of the toughest things to deal with. Having random things happen that you think to yourself, "oh, I can't wait to show this to ---oh wait..." It's heartbreaking. It's literally like having your heart ripped out of your chest over and over again at random times. No amount of time gets rid of it. It just gets easier to deal with. You become sort of numb to it. It just becomes another thing to deal with in your day to day life. It doesn't go away, though. Ever. OP should be ashamed of himself. Who cares if the guy didn't look like her father, she thought he had some semblance and that's all that matters. And instead of comforting her and being a good husband, he shits on her and makes her feel like shit for having a normal human moment. Fuck that.

After only a month my MIL had the nerve to tell me I needed to get back to normal and stop crying. My husband stood up for me. 5 months later she passed away. I have to say I was not sad or grieving when she passed. Woman was an absolute nightmare to be around and she was very abusive to my husband growing up.

    I lived next door to a man who bore a striking resemblance to my dad, not in looks but in other ways. They both grew up in the same parts of the city, shared the same pop culture references of their youth, enjoyed the same music and clothing styles, and even had similar mannerisms and speech patterns, and the exact same accent. It's tough to break through for some guys unless you really put it in their face. It finally clicked for me when I was driving through my neighborhood after college. I saw a high school friend going for a walk and I whipped around the corner and hopped out of my car to wave hello and catch up.
      What I was unaware of was the person a few months back who hopped out of his car and started pleasuring himself in front of her. I had no idea that anyone would do that and I was putting my friend in a situation where she had to be prepared for ANYONE to pop out of the car. Learning that helped me understand that every day, any situation can change in an instant you have to be prepared for it.
