    Wow, my mind was reeealy exagerating. I was imagining that you needed something at least The Witcher 3(For games) or Avengers(For movies) in your portifolio to enter VFS.
    The bad part its that the annuity fee, while not being that expensive for someone who lives in Canada, United States or some country that has Dolar as its currency, for someone in Brazil is almost impossible unless you pay in installments(And good luck finding a bank that will accept to do it). Its the price of a house around here.

      My year was extremely tough physically and mentally. I stayed up for days at a time to finish work and learned a lot. I lived in the lower mainland but I still had to move downtown after 5 teachers told me that I would fail if I didn't. They were right. I lived there with a roommate for the year and them moved away back with my parents

    I got accepted to VFS (Animation Concept Art) in 2018. But however, declined it. I thought about how much I will be in debt after going to VFS which is gonna be a lot. My question is, how did you manage it without parents' help, RESP? I went to student loan they can lend me but then living in VAN City is crazy expensive.

    • @everythinganimation1183
      @everythinganimation1183  Před 4 lety +1

      I didn't. My parents paid for half of all my expenses with the money from my RESPs but they paid out of pocket for the other half and I'm still paying them back 4 years later and since then I have moved to a small town that's way cheaper to live and work in the financial industry. Other people live paycheque to paycheque or live very cheaply until they get a high enough salary to loosen up a bit. I think you did a smart thing honestly but maybe that's just me.

  • @kitec
    @kitec Před 4 lety +1

    I got into the animation and vfx program at vfs in 2005 because I had 26k for tuition. LIke yeah they wanna see skills just so they know you will try and get the most out of the experience, but really as long as you have the tuition money they will take you, for me the screening process is a bit of a joke imho. I worked for about 3 years in the industry at an advertising firm- got laid off a year after the 2008 financial collapse, did freelance for 2 years and got tired of the uncertainty, now I work in marine engineering. My advice to most people is to just learn this stuff online, everything I was taught there back then is offered for free from people on youtube. Or you can get involved community wise with people on CGI forums and other support sites to guide you. I can't even imagine how much VFS charges now for tuition. In the end your work speaks for itself regardless of whether or not it has the VFS logo at the start of your reel. For the amount of financial uncertainty and gig type work a person will probably have to do to stay afloat in these times- and lets be real here, to pay off their student debt- I imagine will be quite difficult. And thats if you even end up lucky enough to work in the industry. 15 years ago when I went they were pumping 30 of us out of that school every 8 months. Remember your classmates are also going to be applying for the same companies as you......as well as the year ahead of you and behind you, and so on. Lets also not forget to mention that a ton of work is outsourced to cheaper studios in places like India and Singapore. So like good luck and all that to potential new students but honestly I wish someone gave me a dose of reality before I decided to go, I treasured my time there and the friendships I made but in the end I feel it was a waste of money. I could have started life financially secure and just traveled lol.

    • @everythinganimation1183
      @everythinganimation1183  Před 5 lety

      It is a lot of money and I have heard that digital design is one of the harder positions to find after graduating. It really is a lot of money to sink into something that you are so unsure of and admit to not having a background in. I would suggest trying to find a graphic design course for beginners on youtube or skillshare (not sponsored sadly) and try to complete that before sinking big money into VFS. Feel free to send me your portfolio (on facebook) and I can try to give you some constructive criticism, though you could post it to the group to see what others would suggest too.
      Also remember, I only did 3D so I don't feel that it would be appropriate for me to answer that. There are a few digital design artists in my facebook group that graduated from VFS and some are working and some are not. Feel free to join even just to ask the question to them there (they are pretty nice people) facebook.com/groups/195253061267330/

      EVERYTHING ANIMATION hey! Thanks for the response. I’m not a complete beginner to design. I’ve freelanced and worked for an ad agency but the course looked like it had a good mix of things I was interested in. But you’re right, the tuition is a bit much (I saw it and I was like whaaaat) and to top that, I believe they don’t help you get a work permit either.
      It’s been a while since I saw this and I still have no clue what I’m going to do, ha.
      I’d really appreciate it if you could give me feedback on my portfolio though. It’s not much (it’s pretty shit) but yeah, it’s less intimidating to show it to one person as compared to a group.
      Also hoping a sponsorship comes your way soon! 😋

      From my limited knowledge of just having a few 2D artist friends; Adding graphical drawings, showing an understanding of anatomy, showing creativity, and especially sending even a basic 2d or 3d animation will all be appropriate. They really just want to see that you have at least a tiny experience in some of the classes that you would be taking in your course.

    • @everythinganimation1183
      @everythinganimation1183  Před 5 lety +2

      You're welcome :) Yeah, it was very hard but I had a great time and grew a lot. I think you could get just as good of an education from Van arts or an online animation school like animation mentor or animschool but VFS was the best for me because I wasn't quite sure I wanted to do animation or modeling or pre-vis and VFS gave me the flexibility to try them all before making up my mind on what I wanted to do. It was also great having a computer with all the programs I would need already downloaded on the computer apposed to an online school where you would have to do that yourself and troubleshoot any problems you come across. Plus, VFS has teachers that can help you with problems and questions right away and are very talented people who have worked in the industry. ALSO ALSO, you get to interact with a lot of people who are in your class, other classes, and who are already working in the industry which not only gives you a support network but also colleagues who may help you with your work or help in finding your first job and subsequent jobs in the future. So, yes, I think it is work the time, effort, and price but that's just for my situation, you'll have to make up your own mind.
