    Good job!!!!! Your video will help a lot of aspiring students.Could you please answer few questions of mine . Im curious to know about the opportunities international students have in the field ? Will work permit be an issue?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety +1

      Work permits are hard to get and deal with but you definitely can get them. I know a lot of international people working in the industry and a lot of them have even gotten permanent residence here in BC. Your first job or two or three may be tougher to get as an international student and the work permit will be harder on top of that. The best thing you could do is apply 6-3 months before the end of your schooling because in my experience, that is how long it takes studios to get back to you and with a study permit you will have a few months to get a job before you have to re-apply for a work permit.

      Also, companies can sponsor you so make sure to make lots of friends in the industry and always put out your best work and stay late if you have to. Just make a good impression.

    Hi, very informational video. Few questions though -
    1. How old were you when you started your course at VFS ?
    2. what is the average age group of everyone there ?
    3. Were there a lot of students who came to VFS on a student visa or had a PR ?
    4. why did you choose VFS and not VanArts ?
    Thank you so much.

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety +1

      Urbane Rhythm Hello :)
      I started on my 18th birthday.
      The ages in my class were 17-42. The average was 17-32
      Most of my class was on a student visa. There were only a few from BC. I chose VFS because they have a lot of respect for their 3D program where as Van Arts didn't seem to care about theirs as much. Also, VFS allows you to meet lots of people from the industry and teaches you to be professional. My night mentor at VFS got me my current position as a layout artist at Atomic Cartoons.
      Any more questions? :)

They help you to get one? Wow thats crazy, just a final question, aprox how much does the career costs, i've read that 50,000 cad aprox right?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah about $50000 CAD for international students and around $35000 CAD for Canadian Students. They will help you find a place to live for 200-300 dollars if i remember correctly. Awesome to hear you are trying maya before starting! Good luck!

      a) How did you complete your course at VFS financially? being there so much, is there time for a part time job?
      b) The things you learn, can you only learn them at VFS?
      c) What are the Prerequisites for the 3D animation course you completed?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 8 lety +1

      ja po a) No, there is not time for a job or anything while going to school. Most people in my class had student loans.
      b)No, you can learn them other places, but it is really nice that you get taught the basics of everything. If you are like me, and don't know exactly what stream (VFS,lighting,rigging,pre-vis,modeling,texturing,animation,lighting,roto,compositing,match-move) you wanna specialize in, you get to try them all out.
      c)The prerequisites are a highschool diploma and i believe 72% minimum as an English mark but don't quote me on that :) Also, you will have to submit a portfolio of maximum 10 of your best art pieces for a panel to judge. Just make sure it's your best stuff like drawings and 3D work or VFX work, they are not too judgy. You will have a meeting with a representative which counts for a lot more than your portfolio and all they are really looking for is a love for 3D art or VFX and general enthusiasm

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 5 lety

      VFS is meant to be full time. It is nearly impossible to do both at the same time. Living close to the school is also essential in my opinion. I have some more videos about vfs here bit.ly/2HzS5Uz

  • @myperfectrainbow1

    what did you choose to do? animation, modeling or VFX?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety

      I chose modeling in term 3 (that is the first term where you get to choose though you still have some general classes with everyone) but I really didn't like mudbox and zbrush. In term 4 I switched to the animation stream though I was specifying in Previs and Layout until term 6 where I focused on animation.
      I would not recommend my strategy though I do not regret it at all. Try to find what you want to specify in asap. To do that, try everything.

    brother first of all thanks fo this helpful video
    i just want to know that what is the starting yearly income after you just pass from the vfs and how much it cost with fees rent and eating of one year in there?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety

      Depends on the studio and the position (animation, bootcamper, render wrangler, LRT...). I have seen between 500$/week- to 900$/week. You'll have to do your own budget on how much you spend on food and everything, I can't do that for you. Rent depend on where you live and with how many people. Rent could be $500/month to $5000/month, excluding hydro, internet, etc..
      There are so many variables, it's hard to give a definite answer. Follow my other channel bit.ly/2HzS5Uz as I will be making a video about this in the next few weeks.

    How easy is to get a job once you finish the program?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety +1

      Wellllllll, it isn't as simple as it may seem.
      If you are amazing then you may get a job before graduation (definitely take it if you get that opportunity).
      If you are good or above average then it may take up to a year, but you may have to start out getting people coffee for a bit or doing night shifts (take any opportunity that comes to you in the beginning)
      Apply EVERYWHERE even if they are not hiring immediately or you do not fit their regular criteria! It sometimes takes up to 9 months for a studio to get back to you with a position. Most places won't even reply back. Connections are necessary.
      Getting a job almost 100% relies on you not sucking as a person. Be nice and respectful. Connections will get you 80% of all your jobs. It's okay if you are a bit shy or awkward , most people are, just try to be nice.
      About 75% of students that graduate from VFS (3D program) get a job within a year here.
      My best advice: Make a demoreel, not a film, if you want a job. Make a film if you want to be proud of yourself.
      Hope that helps a bit :P

    whats up man? I'm thinking of getting into the animation industry as I love to draw and write stories and I'm currently learning modeling in Blender. I'm wondering how intense the program really is though? Do you have time for a life at all outside of school. Do you have time for a girlfriend or anything?

  • @praveenkumaryandrapati1199

    one more question bro ......campus placements ......jobs is it avalible ?

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 6 lety

      For about $200 (cad) they will help you find somewhere to live. You Just tell them if you want cheap rent, if you want a roommate, if you need to be super close to the school and they will find you places to look at and set up the meetings.
      There are jobs but there are also a lot of people that want them. Be the best in your steam and make connections with people that can get you jobs and talk with them often.

    • @mrsoizescreative8287
      @mrsoizescreative8287  Před 5 lety

      I have heard of one person working while going to school and still being successful but mostly, you will be shooting yourself in the foot if you try to work while attending 3D at VFS. If it's going to be your career, you will need to dedicate every day to VFS and always be working to make your assignments better, learn more, do better and unless you're godly fast or efficient, you will not have time for a side job. I would suggest that you push back your start date and work until you have the money you need or get a loan. If you want to get threw VFS successfully and get a job after, you will need to really sacrifice for it and put in the hours and hours and hours. Most people that try to work on the side of VFS either produce a lower quality of work, severely fatigue themselves (I know of multiple hospitalizations because of this one and some of them were not even working on the side), or end up quitting because it's too much to handle. Please, if you need more money before you start then push your start date and save up as much as you can before you start then quit and do VFS full time or get a loan and work your butt off so you can get a job soon after VFS and pay it back with the money you make from working in the industry. I probably will make a video with these same sentiments. Sorry for the essay haha, I get so passionate about this stuff.

    • @mrsoizescreative8287

      Usually income in the industry is talked about as 'per week' since some contracts are very short.
      I get $800/week currently. A year ago I was getting $650/week.
      Technically I would be making about 38000 per annul but my current contract was only for 10 months so I'm not getting that much.
