  • Today at Alf's Mustang Garage, we continue on our 66 Mustang Fastback 289 conversion by installing the front coil springs and control arms. We also perform the "Shelby Drop" on the upper control arms. The Shelby Drop is not a requirement but just an added benefit to help improve the handling capabilities of the car.

Roller spring perches and a roller idler arm are tremendous improvements to the handling of these cars

It would be a good idea to place an additional shim on the front bolt. This will give you some caster for the alignment shop to start with.

I hated doing these springs on my liincoln. I would never put my hands on that thing while compressing. I might be overly cautious, but I have seen what happens when a spring lets go.

Not with this tool. Safest and easiest way to do it.

@@AlfsMustangGarage I ended up using a compressor for a mercedes, because my buddy worked on them and said it was pretty much the same set up which I found funny, but it worked like it was made for it. I still find it scary when working on springs knowing what kind of power is in one. compressed.

Thank you for posting. I am doing the same thing on a 66 coupe. What brake kit are you using?
