Mt. Takao is located about 50 minutes away from Shinjuku by train, close enough for a day trip of leisurely hiking on the mountain. The Japanese have regarded it as a holy mountain since the Edo period.
The area is famous for its tororo soba, which is made with buckwheat noodles and grated yam.

Hey guys! We took a day trip to Mt Takao. It was a cloudy day, but we managed to eat some amazing soba and hike up a famous mountain! Enjoy!!!
Awesome work guys! Way to work out for your food!
TabiEats thank you just stumbled across you guys a few days ago and subscribed enjoy all of your videos I know you guys asked for suggestions I would like to see more videos like this you guys traveling around Japan exploring parks etc. and maybe you guys could do a segment with Ramune please
I had a real hard time seeing your captions. You had white on very pale background. So I missed a lot of info cause I couldn't see it.
12 Volts I don't think sentaikat is talking about subtitles, they mean the informational captions that don't have any audio. I must admit I found them hard to read too! A thicker stroke around the letters, or a darker background behind the text would help. :)
Bahaha I thought you had to climb up the mountain to get the soba xD Talk about working an appetite
You guys are so cute! Satoshi is so adorable!
I love how Satoshi eats his noodles he scoops it right in.
I was expecting Satoshi to crack open a beer when they got to the top
I really like these day trip videos. They're giving me a lot of good ideas.
Slow and steady wins the race when it comes to hiking. That's how I do it.
I really like when you guys put the traditional music with your videos. It's such a nice vibe.
Another great day trip video up! Thanks guys!
Great video guys! Love how your channel has grown. Reminds me of when I was at Mt. Takao a few years back.
Do an EMT there perhaps?
Good idea Ninten!🍓
Do a collaboration video please haha I love your videos Eric n love Tabi eats put yous together😍
every time i watch a video like this it makes me love japan more and more.
The trips the food the culture...the people love it..
"Naturally we got side-tracked"
This is the story of my life bahahaha!
Breanna Ennis hahaha I was waiting for someone to quote that
I love your hiking and travel videos. Shinichi is me when I have to walk a lot. 😂 glad you guys had fun!
Bribri 09 me too. Hate hiking or lots of walking. How can you enjoy the scenery when your huffing and trying to pay attention to the trail. No thank you. Lol
meow meow ikr 😂
Same! Once it started getting steep, I'd complain the whole way up. And also sit down for an hour at each resting spot!
I really appreciate that you are going out of Tokyo and showing other places with great food. I plan on adding this spot to visit.
Please do more day trips with food videos! ^_^
This video was awesome! Love the music in it and all the editing work you put into it. Thanks for sharing this hike with us!
I love love love tororo!! There's nothing like freshly grated tororo on a nice hot bowl of gohan! I've never had it in a bowl of soba. That looks and sounds amazing!!
You boys are totally in shape and can tackle that mountain hike with no problem. It looks so beautiful and so peaceful! I love how you can get drinks and snacks on the way to the top. That cable car ride down was crazy steep though!!
Thank you for sharing yet another awesome video! Thank you for showing me what to look forward to on our future trip to Japan. ❤️
Wow, that's some luxurious hiking! When we think hiking here in the US, most of the time it is dirt roads and you are on your own once you leave the base of the trail. I have hiked some PA mountains and also nature trails here in FL. The PA mountain trails are VERY steep, all dirt and rock, and difficult to complete but the view is breathtaking when you finish. FL hiking is very humid, hot, and sometimes mushy, with lots of mosquitoes and ticks- and sometimes you need to watch out for alligators! Hiking up a gorgeous mountain with paved roads, food, and vending machines sounds like a dream. ;)
Yes I was surprised the path was paved too at first, but then I realized since a respected temple is up near the top it makes sense =p Here in Washington/Seattle we have plenty of hiking trails but pretty much all of them are dirt and rock, even the trail to the small Shinto shrine we have nearby. I would love love loveeee to go to Tokyo before the year ends, but I think I waited too long and tickets are an arm and a leg again. So sad T___T
Yeah but this is in Tokyo with a popular spot for people to go to. It's a hike but one that all kinds of folks visit for religious reasons.
If you want to really hike in Japan go to Yakushima in Kyushu. Or Mt Yari in Naganoken. Iya Valley in Tokushima. Those were challenging hikes but nothing compares to doing the Kalalau Trail in Kauai.
I did 4 trails when I was in Japan :D overall, the hiking trails very well maintained in Japan. Hong Kong (I did 3 trails there) is OK, in terms of the paths (some are purely dirt + rock paths and some are cement) tho there's a lot of litter from tourists during peak seasons
Looks like it was so pretty! You had me cracking up with "It's surrounded by nature." "... And vending machines."
one of the best things about japan is the fact that you can buy so many kinds of small servings at a fair price so you can enjoy a little of everything. not many countries follow that model
Went there for the Fire Walking Festival this past March and you guys documented it perfectly. A true gem in the greater Tokyo area. You guys brought me right back.
Thank you for sharing with us!! Love your day trips around Tokyo and Japan... Please do more :)
I think this is one of your best videos so far! Love it
Loved it. My favorites are always when you guys go on these outdoors trips with food
That video was so well made, it made me really happy ♥

Wow, I like how there is so much to do along the hiking trail and food as well ☺

I love watching your adventure videos! :D
Another great video...more day trip videos please!!!
I've been to the exact same restaurant and I think I even sat at the same table with my friends. I absolutely recommend visiting mount Takao and having some soba there.
Satoshi and Shinichi! You know how I love all your videos but I really think this was the very best one of all! I loved the music, I loved your explanations and the way you shared everything with us, the food looked delicious, and I enjoyed vicariously the fun that you two were obviously having! So hiking Mount Takao is now on my list of to do things for my next trip to Japan (yes, already saving for it - hopefully winter 2019!) though by the time that comes I might just have to take the cable car UP as well as DOWN! (By the way it's 2:30 in the morning here and I couldn't sleep - so thank you! Your video came at just the right time to make me smile and relax.)
This video was a lot of fun to watch!
When you guys weren't even halfway and you asked Satoshi if you were, your response was hilarious 😂😂😂 "Damn....." sounds like something I'd say too, even after how many hikes I've done back home in Hawaii LOL Great video you guys!
the scenery in Japan looks amazing! i am very jealous.
There is a hiking trail that goes from Mt, Takao to Sagamiko (Lake Sagami), when I was growing up in Hachioji, from Mt. Takao to hike to Sagamiko and go camping.
I love videos from your trips ❤
Yes, this really was one of your best videos. You captured the energy of this trip so well, I wished that I was there. :)
Satoshi-san is soo cute!!~ Love you guys! Keep up the wonderful adventures!

You guys are amazing! I love the sobu noodles 🍝. The hike looked fantastic. I also loved the bending machines along the way of the hike. 💯 x times thank you!!!!
Another reason I would love to go to Japan. Love your videos. 💞💞💞
What an awesome day trip! And that soba-🙋🏾 yes please!
I love your hiking n travel videos. I miss n I love Japan.specially the ramen.
Looks like such a fun day! I wish I could do that some day.
Love watching your trip videos
It reminds me of the hike to Vikingsholm in Lake Tahoe. That one is "only" a mile, but it goes down (and then back up!) 450 feet in elevation. At the bottom of the trail is this house that was built nearly a hundred years ago, and is very pretty! They give tours and tell you about the family who lived there, and there is a pretty beach on Emerald Bay there as well.
We took the hike a few years ago. I had just had my hip surgery a few weeks before, and it was WAY over 100F, but I managed to make it all the way down and all the way back up without totally dying!
This hike - and the soba! is definitely on my bucket list!
What a great excursion! I really love neba neba textures in food, and my whole family adores tororo, especially me. I've never had it paired with shrimp tempura though. Looks so good!
That hike to Mt. Takao, although steep, looks great. What a nice way to get steps in! The senbei and cheese tart looked delicious too. Thanks for showing us around!
Looked like you had fun. Started binge watching your videos last month. Your videos are great. I so would have taken the cable car up and maybe hike down.
Love this video! :) Your travel vids make me seriously wanna visit Japan. In the near future I'm not able to, but would love to plan for it after that. :) Thank you for these vids, it teaches other people who are sorely unaware of all the treasures of Japan. Ah yes, I thought so too, that the cable car ride was kind of like a roller coaster ride, only slower. Fun! :)
Thoroughly enjoy
Wow....looks so delicious... Man, I'm hungry....
Would love to see you guys do this with other mountains and national parks!
Hey Guys! Your day trip looked amazing although i would of been wiped out half way their! Hahahaa I also loved the music in the background. love when you do these traveling videos looking forward to more. xoxoxoxo
Love this video, you two are darling. Thank you for showing how beautiful Japan is.
I love this video! I can’t wait to go to Takao-san. If y’all ever do an updated video I would love to see you eat at Juicchome-Chaya. I wonder if it is self seating or not? Thank you for the wonderful videos!
I could NOT do that hike! Mad respect to you two😫
With everything I have watched about Japan over the years and it has been a lot of hours of Japanese documentaries and things I have never seen one person in a wheelchair. And I just saw my first person with a cane.
Love your videos !
That soba looks sooo good. And I love Yamakurage, kori kori kori....kori
That was such a great video. That song playing when you were going down the cable car at the end - what was it? So cool. One of your best videos.
Thank you.
You should do food tours. Both of you make food look delicious.
This is something I've always wanted to do. Nice to see you leaving from Shinjuku Station (we usually stay in that area) so that's an easy one. Both our soba lunches looked amazing - we love mountain vegetables too and the mountain yam is soooooo good!! I think I will take the cable car up and walk down -- ha ha
I love Takaosan! I cant wait to go back next year and try the soba! OISHI
oh ! good memories, climbed the Mt Takao in january !
by the way i love your videos !
I always enjoy your videos.
I love tororo soba too. Troro's texture is good, say in japanease "thuruthuru and nebaneba". It's so yummy!
Glad you chose the stairs ;) Those tarts looked good too. How many times have you hiked up Fuji?
What a lovely place to go!
Please take us into nature again!
I went to Takao-san in April this Year. It really is a wonderful Place and was a fun hike.
Going to visit again in November, because I read that there will be Yosakoi-Dance on Sundays at the Cablecar Station.
Hopefully it will not be that crowded and of course I'm going to eat Soba !
It would take me multiple days to get up there. Holy sugar. But such gorgeous views and you guys had some delicious foo!
We took the easy way when we were there. We took the cable car up the mountain then got down by foot.
Mojo Jojo good to know that is an option for people with disabilities, thanks
This looks so fun! I'd love to do this when I visit Japan someday. Might have to make sure I come alone though, doubt I'd have many friends left if we went on vacation and I put them through that lol.
Enjoy the out and about vids!!!!!!
