    Thx for the knowledge share. I just watched another dudes video where hes doing a rebuild. While the spray paint job is excellent, he failed to inspect the piston rings and during a zoom in of the turbo, the shaft in that turbo was rounded.

    Have you ever heard of a turbo failing due to poor drain even after the drain was fixed?
    I think this has happened to me, even after fixing the drain issue ( ran it like that for a cpl thousand miles ) the turbo is now still smoking. cheers

    What's your opinion on turbo size for a 4.6 2v Ford, only looking to run 10psi, and it needs to be a small single turbo, not looking for high rpm numbers but wanted best sound and low end

    I opened my intake on 2014 ram cummins and it was a mixture of soot and oil alike, while previous times it was just dry soot... Is this leaking oil turbo? And Intercooler pipes are oily from inside.

    I never thought that adding a exhaust brake would push oil out of the turbo and into the intake. Not much in the intercooler tubes but oil is on the intake temp sensor and Manifold Air Pressure sensor. 🤷‍♂️ Would could new seals improve the situation. 2001 Dodge Cummins H O. Stock truck except for exhaust brake.

    Brand New 0 miles Bank 1 F21BI Franken Turbo leaks right out the V-Band Clamp....being told this is a crankcase pressure issue by Doug because Turbos don't leak like that....I had no crankcase pressure issues before installing these and have an upgraded pcv valve and low side OCC.....also I noticed the blades was kinda stuck and wouldn't spin freely when pulled out the box....after a lil pressure from my finger it became free. I don't understand why. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Quick question what would cause oil in the intercooler? I will really appreciate if you can help me out with that.
    Thanks

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  Před měsícem

      Oil in the intercooler is caused by oil leaking past the turbo front piston ring or from the crack case vent valve being bad (commonly called ccv or pcv). Sometimes people block off the crank case vent which is a huge mistake, this causes the crank case to pressurize which won’t allow oil to drain properly from the turbo, which forces it out the front and rear seal of the turbo. If the ccv goes bad, the turbo can suck oil out of the engine into the intercooler, often people use an oil catch can which will avoid this issue.
      Its very common that people use a -10an fitting that is too small (10-12mm) which will not drain fast enough, as a result oil is backed up into the cartridge and forced out the front and rear seals of the turbo. I machine the -10an fittings to 5/8 or about 15.8 mm to fix this problem.

    @VolvoGonzo Před 5 měsíci

    Will you always see visible signs of a leaking turbo? That is can sometimes it leak internally, without any oil on the outer housings

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  Před 5 měsíci

      The compressed air can leak into the crank case through the seals but it’s hard to test that, because a boost leak test pressurizes the system but the air can leak fast the valves, front piston ring, or the crank case vent. The gap between the piston ring and wall of the piston ring groove should be .0025”, if larger than the seal or groove is worn.

    What about if you had over 100 pounds oil pressure journal bearing tubro and you didn’t catch it in time shall you rebuild the tubro j think my tubros smoke when I start the car when it warms up the smoke goes away but the smoke comes back after 10 pounds of boost I got -10 oil drain going to timing chain cover for ea turbo and I change the oil pump to regular pump from a high volume higher pressure my question is do you think I waited too long to fix the oil problem and I were out the seals ?

    I have a Vauxhall astra 1.4 turbo 2011. My turbo was completely shot so I bought a reconditioned unit with like 30days warranty (im an idiot I know) and it has since started smoking from the exhaust but not wailing like my previous turbo did. have changed the pcv system, the solenoid, tested the wastegate actuator, and everything in between, litterally everything in between. Getting code Po299 turbo underboost, it only smokes when I accelerate hard but only around 3k revs and around 60mph and above or going up hills. Does not smoke at low speeds. I have changed the catalyic converter aswell and still have the issue. You reckon my turbo seals are failing? :(

    • @Nemesis-yn5wv
      @Nemesis-yn5wv Před 7 měsíci +1

      Sounds like you may have a boost leak. If that causes vacuum in the intake at times it’ll suck oil out the turbo. Turbo air intakes need to be at atmospheric or boost pressure, vacuum conditions cause leaks.

    • @chriswilson9224

      @@Nemesis-yn5wv Thanks man for responding. It turned out that my PCV valve had gone missing, causing a shit ton of carbon buildup. Had it all cleaned and the underboost vanished.

    i have had 2 s400 borg warner turbos wear the trust bearing .the first one blew oil out the intake side and the 2nd one blew oil out the exhaust side. the 2nd one only had about 45 miles on it. ive put new feed line and discharge oil lines on . new air filters and checked all the piping.i also have made sure the engines vent tube is ciaer and clean. both turbos had the 270 thrust bearing in . i have just rebuilt the 2nd turbo with a 360 thrust bearing and am going to try it. i did see waer on the exhaust side oil piston ring. mine runs 2 of them. any idea what is causing this? i am beginning to think it is bad thrust bearings from borg warner.

    • @Nemesis-yn5wv
      @Nemesis-yn5wv Před 7 měsíci

      Many thing can make a turbo leak. In your case excessive oil pressure or excess blow by could cause that. Also is the oil return line a large enough diameter for the oil flow rate?

    • @turbolabamerica
      @turbolabamerica  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The piston rings can wear out from the movement of the rotating assembly when the thrust bearing goes bad.
