Signs will always have a special place in my heart, it was the first scary movie I watched and it’s what started my love for the genre!
Same!
Discuss why the birthday scene is so effective, please . . 👽
I’m also a fan of The Village. I found it quite clever. From what I’ve heard, the hate towards the film comes from people expecting horror and feeling that it falls more into suspense. Either way, I thought it worked out nicely.
I liked it so much!
The premise for The Village is just plane dumb. Even the Amish arent as detached from reality than the people from The Village.
@@xcidgaf definitely not, but the elders in the community practiced willful ignorance
See my response in the comments - it was read as a political metaphor that sympathized with certain perspectives.
@@xcidgaf the Amish detach from modern society and technology because they believe it moves them away from family and God, many of them still acknowledge they're part of the society(why some of them were demostrating against racial inequality with BLM)...in "The Village", it is society ITSELF they are shunning. Comparing the two is kinda missing the point.
Oh my god I didn't know he wrote Stuart Little 💀Servant has been surprisingly good IMO (I'm not all caught up though). My favorite are Signs & The Village!
I literally screamed 🤣🤣🤣 that was the wildest thing I've heard in a while. Also agree with Servent, only on S1 but it's so unsettling 😬
I enjoy the show too. I bet it has a giant twist by the time this season is over.
this comment made me go check out servant and i finished all of the first season in one night 🫢 currently almost done with season two!!
@@trinity2947 it’s so watchable!! I did the same thing when I started it
The Happening is a great accidental comedy. I swear it never fails to make me laugh because Marky Mark and Zooey are just so … there and so strange. The way they chose to emphasize certain words cracks me up even if it did sort of put me off of tiramisu.
When I watched The Last Airbender movie I almost cried because it was so awful and I was such a fan of the animated show.
It was one of the movies that I independently didn't like it.
I think Roger Deakins cinematography adds so much to The Village. It has a great atmosphere.
That guy is a god
So searched Roger Deakins, mainly because your comment has 19 likes, the cinematographer must be good,
and that would mean a bunch of new movies to watch, but that's not the case, for I've seen many of the films he did, and they are amazing films. that said, I haven't seen The Village. Going to go watch it.
1. Sixth Sense, 2. Signs, 3. Village. These were my Horror movies before I watched horror. Sixth sense was terrifying to me the first few times I watched it, and the color symbolism is cool. I watch Signs often, I know the birthday scene I screamed the first time, and I love the twist. The Village creatures still creep me out. The scene on the porch and in the woods still gives me goosebumps. Such good movies. I watch them whenever they are on TV.
Every time I hear that Shyamalan wrote Stewart Little it's still just as jarring.
I wonder if he tried to add a plot twist where Stewart is actually a tiny person...
I was so anxious for your ranking, always fun videos! A James Wan would be fun as well...
My ranking:
1. Sixth Sense (LOVE)
2. The Village (LOVE)
3. Old (LOVE)
4. Signs (Really liked it)
5. Devil (I really like it despite being VERY CHEESY)
6. Split (don't really like it, it has nice elements and FANTASTIC tense moments, but I think it is a little overhyped and felt it draged a little)
7. Knock at the Cabin (don't really like it)
[haven't watched the rest, but didn't watch them because never felt interested and haven't ended The Visit because it wasn't clicking]
YES to a James Wan rank!!
2:22
That's going to be hilarious to tell her when she's older 🤣
love the list. I actually really enjoyed The Lady in the Water. The one m. night movie I didnt enjoy was The Visit. But, I could see how people could either love or hate both. :)
The Village is my wife's favorite. It falls in the middle for me. We always support him in the theater. I like the idea of supporting am original filmmaker like him.
Good list! Mine is similar - we just have similar thoughts about different movies. Here's my personal list:
1. Sixth Sense 2. The Village 3. Signs 4. Unbreakable 5. Knock at the Cabin 6. Split 7. Lady in the Water 8. Old 9. The Visit 10. Devil 11. Glass 12. After Earth 13. The Happening 14. The Last Air Bender.
Editing to add brief reasons (in case anyone cares)
1. Classic 2. Creative 3. So much fun! 4. I just enjoyed it a lot. 5. I love a good allegory. 6. Problematic but enjoyable. 7. Slow but so beautiful. 8. Too many plot holes, but still enjoyable. 9. Predictable but creative. 10. Alright but I could almost instantly tell how it would end. 11. WTH was this mess? 12. Meh. 13. Dull, overdone, predictable. 14. No. Watched, but still no.
I really liked the Happening too! I also like the Village, and Lady in the Water. I like the cinematography of Split and the actors, but as a person with DID I can see the huge damage it did to people with my disorder, and it would have just taken Shyamalan to say "this is not an accurate portrayal of DID" as so many people asked, and he always refused so now this movie is kind of triggering, and I also see the pattern of psychophobia in his movies, so now I'm conflicted because on one hand, he's a good director and some of his movies are really enjoyable, but on the other hand there's so much harm done to the mental health community in an unapologetic way that it's starting to piss me off (it would be okay if he didn't name disorders but he does, every time - that's a big problem.) I was a huge fan of his growing up, and now I'm constantly disappointed in him and his lack of awareness.
I absolutely loved Lady in the Water! It’s a Korean bedtime story and my grandmother is from Seoul, but never shared any of these things with us. So I was incredibly happy to finally have a story! :)
It’s so interesting how even Shyamalan fan opinions can vary so widely. It’s kind of cool though because he obviously doesn’t care what critics say, he just follows his vision good or bad. I would say my top 3 are Unbreakable, The Village, and Signs and the worst is Old. Really enjoyed hearing your opinions!
I only remember screaming twice in a theatre and one time was at the birthday party scene in signs. Loved seeing your list and it has made me want to re-watch some of his movies and check out others that I had skipped when they first came out.
The Village is one of my favorites from him. I think it was the first of his films I saw, either it or Signs, and I was blown away by it. I think it was panned because it was marketed as a horror film about a village surrounded by these strange creatures, but in reality its more of a dark romantic thriller/drama. If it was marketed better I think it would have been an even bigger success, because it still performed insanely well. (60m budget/257m box office)
I also just loved that the whole film dripped with tension, right up until you learn what's really going on. It also has an insane cast in it, who all did really well. Its not a perfect film, but its memorable and I personally enjoy the big final twist. Its what the director is known for anyways.
Edit: I guess I am one of the few that didn't see the big final twist coming? I sorta guessed the first twist, but not the last one lol
I grew up with the cartoon. It has such a special place in my heart and I genuinely wish I could travel back in time and stop myself from watching his version of The Last Airbender so I can erase it’s existence from my memory completely…
I can just watch your vids for hours.. SO great 🙌🏻
First, Sarah - LOVE the eye makeup! Second, I am also a fan of The Village and did not understand why so many people hated this movie. The one thing I have always heard about is that because of the marketing everyone was expecting it to be more of a horror/creature feature. I don't know. I loved the twist and the world he created. Loved your list - thanks for sharing!
My favorite has been The Village since I saw it in theaters. One of my favorite twist endings of any film, and a great performance from Bryce Dallas Howard.
My favorite of his is Signs. It’s one I can watch again and again. I thought Old was a fun movie.
omg I love your makeup! the green eyeshadow's really cute :)
I've only seen the sixth sense so far, but really, really liked it- I plan on watching the village, knock at the cabin and the visit pretty soon
personally i love the visit. it was my intro to m night
I havent watched unbreakable and the sixth sense and the village since they came out. I think i need a rewatch b4 i can give my opinion. But signs is number 1 for me, i love the cast, its super creepy and i rewatch it every couple of years.
i absolutely loved lady in the water as a kid when it came out, it was so so magical to me, but hearing you talk abt ur thoughts on it has me wanting to rewatch!!!!!
Old's original ending would have been cool to see adapted to screen. The baby's body has grown faster than her mind, so all she can do now is build sandcastles alone.
So sad!!
I recently watched Old and just couldn’t get behind it! For me I thought it was pretty boring and was hard to sit through. The Sixth Sense and Signs will always be some of my favorite movies from him. The Sixth Sense plot twist blew me away when I first watched it 😮
Old was so bad, I couldn't bring myself to finish it.
@@k_bvndicoot I haven't watched the movie, but someone on CZcams reviewing it (making fun of how bad it is) it made me not want to watch it -- "Mid-sized Sedan" ???? really? 🤔
I LOVE The Village - I saw it in theaters when it came out and immediately fell in love with it. It always makes me happy when you mention it, haha
Awesome video keep up amazing work
Great video and ranking!
The Visit is his scariest movie for me 🥺
yay i'm so happy you made this video! M. Night Shyamalan is my one of my favorite directors (which i feel like is kind of a controversial opinion as well lol). But despite the "duds" and disappointments he's made over his career, the best of his movies keep me locked in, shock me, scare me, and move me like nothing else. that's why The Village is my #1 favorite movie. he's far from a perfect filmmaker, but his creative vision, originality, and heart are in a league of their own.
I love your green eyeshadow, so pretty!
Signs is one of my favorite movies of all time and I think it still holds up very well
The Sixth Sense will always be my favourite ❤️
I will never forget the first time I saw the village and the shock of the twist at the end. Loved it
The parallel between The Happening and Bird Box blew my mind and made me rethink The Happening and see it differently! Thanks!
Omg when I tell you I've been WAITING for this video
i haven't watched all the video yet but i had to come to the comments to say your makeup is looks so good!
I agree with your tiers and most of the placements. I would switch Signs to 3rd place as The Sixth Sense, The Village and Signs are my top three. I would put Split in fourth, Unbreakable in fifth and Old in Sixth. That's just me. I like about half of M. Night's films, I would say I'm a fan and I appreciate his work more than most.
Unbreakable such a underrated superhero film 🎥 👍
It still holds up
I love your channel and your opinion on movies. Also your make up is super cute today😍😍
Thank you for saying how ICONIC "Signs" is. For so many reasons.
Hes one of my favorite directors ever. I know he has had 3 or 4 bad movies but when he gets it right, hes one of the best in the world. I really like The Village as well, but I feel people didn't like it much was because of the way it was marketed for its genre. My favs of his are definitely Unbreakable, The Sixth Sense, Split, Glass, Signs and The Village. Knock at the Cabin is good too, but the rest are not so great. If i had to pick a best film for me its probably Unbreakable, he Sixth Sense or Signs. Glass deserves more praise than it gets.
For me as a fellow m night lover, putting signs below Old was a shock to me but i think I’m just biased towards signs cause it was like THE horror alien movie i grew up with, overall great list! Loved it!
I know people have already said this but ~ it’s so sweet and cute hearing miss thang (Fern) in the background 😩❤️ it really is like she’s giving her own thoughts with you 😂
I love The Happening. Some of the acting and dialogue isn't great but I rewatch it and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Much. 😂
I liked The Village, but... The whole time I was watching it the first time when it came out and with that twist I was thinking "I've read this book before".
The acting and the dialogue in Old was bad. And as I've said, I liked The Happening.
Great video as always.
The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs and The Village were M Night in his prime, I even have a box set with these four. I go back and forth whether I prefer Sixth Sense or The Village.
I didn't know m night shyamalan wrote the screenplay for Stuart little!
I used to watch the Village and Signs over and over when I was a kid so those two will always be my faves!
Love your ranking. Absolutely love the village, highly intriguing and the twists are so well done.
My top 3
1. Signs
2. Sixth Sense
3. The Village
5 Best
1. The Sixth Sense
2. Unbreakable
3. Praying with Anger
4. Split
5. Signs
5 Middle of the Road:
1. Wide Awake
2. Glass
3. Knock at the Cabin
4. The Visit
5. Old
5 Worst:
1. The Village
2. The Happening
3. Lady in the Water
4. After Earth
5. The Last Airbender
im like halfway through making a video with this same premise when i saw youve already done it! I agree with Ryan, ATLA bangs, i know it sounds childish but i promise youll love it
After Earth rabbit hole video yes please!
Congrats again on motherhood. So happy for you!
Not counting Airbender and After Earth, I would watch any of them again. I`m always having a great time watching his movies. But my top 5 is:
1. The Village
2. Signs
3. Devil
4. The Happening
5. Knock at the Cabin
My favourite M. Night movies are Signs, Unbreakable, The Village, and The Sixth Sense.
Unpopular opinion, but although I didn't love Lady in the Water, I did enjoy it, and have watched it more than once. I *love* fairy tales, so I was predisposed to like it.
I have the same list
I absolutely love "Servant" and i recommend that you find a way to watch it. I don't think you will be disappointed. Sending love from Sweden 🇸🇪💕
I LOVE Lady In the Water. It battles The Village for my top spot. I love Paul Giamatti’s character arc & seeing him as a sad, sweet & loving person is always so refreshing. Adrian Brody is my favorite in The Village. BDH is perfect in both movies. Third place is Sixth Sense for me. Love your reviews. ❤
you NEED to watch Servant! it’s totally worth the appletv subscription! honestly not an m. night fan but it’s one of the best horror series I’ve ever seen. it reminds me of ari aster’s work because it’s so deeply unsettling.
i just finished season one last night and I’m almost done with season two!! i love it so far
@@trinity2947 I just caught up with season four and I’m continued to be surprised by each and every episode!
Yess the birthday scene in signs!! I can still remember where i was seated the first time i watch it in theaters! 🖤
Yesss! I love your videos. I love M Night. Score!
*I loved The Village. Probably the M. Night movie I've watched the most.*
please do the full video on After Earth because I would love to hear it
Totally agree on the village.
I haven't seen that many of Shyamalan's films (definitely a project for this year!) but of the ones I've seen I THINK my current ranking would be:
- Signs
- The Sixth Sense
- Split
- Knock at the Cabin
- The Visit
- The Village
I'm keen to rewatch some of these though and watch the ones I haven't seen yet and have a full up-to-date ranking :)
I watched the Village without any prior knowledge of it or even any real awareness of the director (it also holds the distinction of the last film I ever rented from a video store), so I had zero expectations going in, picked it up thinking it was some kind of folk horror thing. And I loved it. As I wasn't expecting a twist ending, I was not expecting what happened at all, and its one of the few twist endings in movie history that's genuinely surprised me. So it always holds a special place for me. And the acting was magnificent, but then when you look back at the cast, it's no surprise really.
I. NEED. THAT. SHIRT.
Edit: I liked After Earth, too. 😅
"Babies Love it! Me, not so much..." Lol, I laughed so bad!!
M Night Shyamalan movies I've watched and ranked:
1) UNBREAKABLE (I thought the superhero premise was original)
2) THE SIXTH SENSE
3) SIGNS (if the aliens' weakness was water, why invade a planet mostly covered in water--I thought NOPE was better)
4) DEVIL
5) THE VILLAGE (TV movie of the week, I lost faith in the director and never went to theaters to watch his later films)
6) LADY IN THE WATER (I don't remember the ending other than the weird monkeys and wasn't there supposed to be a twist)
I know nothing about After Earth I would love a video on it, especially since you had it so much. Lolll
I agree with 1st place. Big thumb from Czech Republic. Watching you're video's for 2 year's now. 😁🙋♂️
I love "Lady in The Water". I have seen it so many times. Paul Giamatti is excellent.
Great list!!! I agree with all of your rankings BUT I would’ve put The Visit a little higher… I really liked it. My husband loves The Village so I think I’ve been influenced heavily there haha
Love your list! We have very similar tastes...just a few differences here and there .. and honestly “The Village” is actually my favorite
M. Night movie!
100000% agree on Sixth Sense. I'm not a huge fan of Shyamalan, but I absolutely love that movie.
Congrats on the baby!
Totally agree that The Sixth Sense is his best movie, but Signs is my absolute favorite!! I also love The Village & Unbreakable, along with The Happening & Old! Am planning to go see Knock At The Cabin this week, & then I'll watch your review because I don't want to know the spoilers ahead of time!
Super off topic, but I love the way you've been doing your hair lately. So cute!
My favorites are
1. Sixth Sense
2. Signs
3. Split
4. The Village
5. Knock at the Cabin
6. The Visit
7. Old
Servant is so good I highly recommend Apple TV is worth it just for servant
I only disagreed with you on Lady in the Water and old. Great video
I would love to see a video of the Aftermath of After Earth!
LOVE THE SHIRT ❤❤❤
Idc I LOVE the village. The first time i watched it, i was shocked at the ending I LOVE IT😊
Oh wow! Devil and The Village were really great in my opinion, I had no idea they were M. Night movies! The village is incredible, I remember just being in awe at that ending
Please do a video on After Earth!
I totally agree with Signs and The Village. I did love The Visit though.
I would move up The Happening to the iconic part. Other than that, I agree.
t6s, signs, and katc r def my top 3. i like the religious theme with katc, and cgi stuff gets better over the years which really helped with the found footage and evvvvverything
No controversy at all, those are your fav (and not fav). I too, dont know why ppl hate the village, but its not my second fav lol but, I do like a lot the visit, I really enjoy that one! As I really enjoy this video and Im glad that you still make the time for you and your work, even tho, now u have a baby girl! 💜💜
I love The Village, it's one I goback to time and again. Also Signs and Sixth Sense 😄 Split was my favourtie of the three, before that it was Unbreakable
Sixth Sense and The Village are my two faves of his. I didn't know people hated The Village until much later on. I don't usually admit I like that one these days because of the popular opinion. I was wondering what your thoughts were about Lady in the Water, because I really wasn't a fan of that one. There are a few on here I actually haven't seen yet. This video made for a good reminder that I should!
I feel like anyone who doesn't have The Sixth Sense in their top 3 did not see it when it first came out. It was truly something special that may not be as sharp now but only because its story is so well known and the twists aren't a surprise any longer.
You need to sell those sweatshirts! I loved The Village. Always have.
Omg you should do Anthony Hopkins next !
Where did you get your sweatshirt?? Does anyone have any website recommendations for good horror merch?
Big fan of Lady in the Water. Loved the story and the acting was very engaging and cute. Underrated in my opinion
I went to see this with my mom and siblings me, my brother, and mom loved it. My sister liked it also just not as much as us.
I still remember waking up in the movie theater when the credits were rolling for Lady in the Water. Lol. Unbreakable is my favorite but mostly agree with the rest of your ranking.
