Overall I found this video very well put together, but what you said about sweat shops is very concerning. Sweat shops are modern slavery, if we stop buying fast fashion and invest in fair trade clothing and foods, we actually can help those people without exploit them. I used to think like you. But then I realized those countries do not need us from the rich west to save them by giving them crappy dangerous underpaid work opportunities. Without us supporting those harmful industries, those countries would be able to develop their own industries. You are arguing the same way slave owners used to, that without them the slaves would be even worse off and not be able to care for themselves. So with this theory we should continue to exploit those people to help them and can even feel good about it? I boycott all fast fashion, buy only second hand or fair sustainable fashion, and at the end I still save money because I don't buy products that won't last anymore.

@@mariemai2902 Relative to the kinds of work available to people in countries in which sweatshops are profitable, sweatshop work is not crappy nor does it pay particularly poorly. People in poor countries cannot possibly develop their own industries on the scale of sweatshop work (or to any reasonable scale at all) except in extreme circumstances because of a massive lack of capital funds and insurance. If you're interested in reading more about the kinds of work available to the world's poorest people and the unique challenges that they face, I'd highly recommend Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo's book Poor Economics.
While buying second-hand is great (especially for the environment), sustainable fashion brands tend to be significantly more expensive than fast fashion brands, and the money you spend by forgoing the cheaper product would go much, much further if you donated it to an effective charitable cause like malaria prevention, deworming, or even a direct cash transfer program (or one of Animal Charity Evaluators recommended charities!).
Marie Mai I get what you’re saying about sweatshops, it’s kind of the noblesse oblige concept, the old world idea of “but if I didn’t have a butler, what would he do?”
I don’t think it’s about NOT happening at all, it about the companies participating in capital flight being more responsible to their employees, paying fair wages for the social/cultural context, and ensuring proper safety standards are followed and met.
Her strawmanning of vegans is interesting, seeing this as a non-vegan. She's talking about about ultra-vegans. Which is similar to people talking about Christianity while only recognizing Young Earth Creationists and the hardline literal interpreters. Sure, those people exist and they're worth talking about, but they aren't the majority.
It's like people saying christians believe in a man on a cloud, when literally, in the major church of my country, the confirmation camp priests told us to stop believing in a man on a cloud. People who haven't been to confirmation camp and haven't taken the Christian Ethics course in upper secondary school don't even know what it is that we believe in, but they have their opinion about it.

Jakob Stubbs: I believe God exists because it wouldn’t be logical to believe otherwise in my opinion. If I see a 200 year old building, should I automatically assume that there was no builder simply because I can no longer meet the person who built it or because I didn’t watch them build it myself? Logically I know that a book, car, etc. did not make themselves. So how could I jump to the conclusion that something infinitely more complex than a book or car such as DNA could create itself from nothing- if there is no initial cause such as God. There is so much more evidence for the existence of God than there is for evolution/atheism. So many natural laws that our galaxy runs on that it is absurd to think that it all happened by mistake/chance. Especially knowing the odds of life existing on other planets. Yes, of course we agree to disagree. Thank you for sharing.

I'm Christian and a vegetarian who allows some dairy products and eggs. I commented about having many Christian friends and seminary professors who are now vegans or vegetarians because they want to do their best to benefit the environment. We are supposed to care for our planet and reduce pollution and other ways to help the environment.

@Dance Electric As a pet owner of fish flushing them down the toilet alive is one of the most cruel things you could do. The presence of chlorine in the water kills them slowly, causing suffocation and for them to essentially burn up. The only sort of humane way to put down a suffering fish is to use clove oil. When added to the fish tank in the right amount and period of time it slips the fish into essentially a coma before their organs shut down from the overdose of clove.
Of course none of this shit matters to Sarah Therese, as she doesn't care about suffering or pain like any normal human (vegan or omnivorous) would.

I've been a Christian since I was about 5, which is also the age I started questioning the ethics of meat. Everyone would always say "God made animals so we could eat them" and it just made me feel so uncomfortable even then. It just didn't sound like a God thing to do.
I'm a vegan Christian. I believe that God wouldn't be happy the way we treat our animals today, so I prefer not to contribute to that. If God gave us all the animals, I believe he ment us to take CARE of them, not the opposite...
Then, as a Christian, how do you deal with, lets say, Jesus causing fishing nets of his disciples to be full of the fresh fish, which are then by killed and eaten?
Wlof25, I don’t think that you can really make a comparison from today where plant foods are readily available and cheap because of modern farming practices and advancements to an era 2,000 years ago where you pretty much had to fish out of necessity. People in Jesus’ time certainly didn’t have the numerous options then that people take for granite now. Today, if you live in the United States, the UK or any other industrialized nation for that matter, going Vegan really has never been easier. And with all the health, environmental, and animal rights benefits that come with going Vegan, people should take it upon themselves.

That is why I ask Christian vegans how they deal with that, with central Christian figure being fine with killing animals for food, and some other things.
Wlof25, Jesus could’ve made apples as opposed to fish to be harvested. But an important thing to consider is he infinitely humbled himself by becoming fully man to begin with, correct? It would then stand to reason that he would’ve obtained food according to how a man in his era would have obtained it since he truly did become man and he didn’t see his own divine status to be used to his advantage. He could’ve regularly used his divine status to uphold himself above the community of his time and he very well could’ve used this to reap massive Vegan harvests with his power, but he instead chose to live as a humble person with no earthly possession because he conveying a different message. In other words, his expression of his humility is ultimately more important to the people of his day rather than just taking advantage of his powers to fit Veganism when convenient. As for the second part of the question, why he used a fish as opposed to any other food to replicate is really as much of a mystery as say something like the Trinity or the understanding of God’s essence. But if you were to twist my arm and tell me to venture a guess I would say fish would more than anything else around them during that time and in that region, would be more satiating than other foods. And really, if you were to replicate a fish that is already dead, that would mean that you wouldn’t actually have to kill any other fish besides just that one.

I've watched your videos for a while and this one in particular really points out how understanding and reasonable you are. Probably one of the (if not the) most compassionate vegans on youtube. You do an amazing job of bringing light to the flaws in a person's reasoning without out coming across high and mighty or like they are bad people. And even though I am not Christian I am incredibly impressed with how you handled the religious aspects of her video without demonizing Christianity or undermining her faith. Which I think is the easier way to respond as an atheist. It's more impactful and likely to create change to come from a place of gentleness and reason. I really hope she sees this video.

Totally agree. I may share this with some friends/family members, which isn't something I can do with a lot of other vegan youtube videos because they're often unreasonably rude to those with opposing views. Not sure how you're supposed to get people on your side if you can't have a civil conversation.

Thank you for your measured response. I’m a Christian vegan as well, and the Bible does not say veganism is against Bible standards. It’s true that after the Flood God allowed mankind to consume meat, but He clearly did not agree with the industrialisation and overall inhumane treatment of animals we see today. He doesn’t agree with hunting for sport or mass killing.
Like you said, there is NOTHING in the Bible that says you shouldn’t be vegan, and if anything, the Bible makes it very clear how sacred God considers all life, including that of animals.
I am also a Christian, and I agree with your argument in this video. I also really, really appreciate your well-researched and extremely respectful approach to the whole Christian argument. A lot of people don’t have this perspective, so I really appreciated how you handled it!

@The Truth because killing an animal who has consciousness feels pain, fears and suffers. An unborn child is "killed" in a way where it doesn't feel anything. It never was conscious yet. Human babies aren't really conscious even after birth. Or can you remember purposefully screaming when you where 2 months old because you where hungry? No, you didn't have a clue about anything going on yet. Animals do understand and feel and fear. Also late abortions always have a reason. For example the health of the mother. The mother will for instant die at birth. You, on the other hand, will not die without eating meat. It's all about preventing pain and suffering and in this case killing an animal causes exactly that while stopping the development of an unborn child doesn't.

So actually I am a little conflicted with your response about fast fashion. Since you care so much about the environment, I would urge you to watch "true cost" on Netflix. On one hand, you are right about the the sweatshop workers. On another hand., fast fashion is also a major polluter of Earth. I guess it's not black and white issue since these workers are in a bad situation as you mentioned. But I am transitioning into veganism because of environmental reasons, that means not supporting fast fashion as well to me or if I ever purchase anything from there, wear it out until it's almost unwearable or give it to someone who will wear it so I can offset the environmental impact.

Thanks for agreeing. I guess I just wanted to educate and I hope she watched this documentary. Buying something from fast fashion may not be inherently wrong. Obviously person who buys a new piece of clothing every week and IS vegan is still a lot better for the environment than someone who is not. I guess she was trying to tell that. But if you are wanting to good for the environment, you should be sort of minimalist in terms of how many things you have.

I agree, but I believe being vegan is more important than being zero waste. I also think that buying any clothing, fast fashion or otherwise is negative. There is so much used clothing out there that is almost free and very high quality.

coldstrawberryblood Most of the farming fields available for agriculture are used to produce meat/feed cattle. So if you truly cared about humans, and how climate is likely to affect vulnerable populations all around the globe, you'd at least go vegetarian. That argument makes no sense to me either...

I feel like all the Christian vegans were holding our collective breath when we saw this title. I love this channel and was so ready for UV to come down hard on Christianity but this was awesome and it's some of the same theological reasoning I use when talking to other Christians about veganism! I would have gone for a more historical/cultural argument for Christian vegan/vegetarianism (such as vegetarian religious orders, monasteries, etc) and I also heavily lean on the story of Daniel but UV made a great theological argument and now this is honestly one of my favorite youtube videos of all time! Science! Religion! Vegans! Woo!
How do you deal that central figure of Christianity (Jesus Christ) was not a vegan, nor he talked about veganism. In the matter of fact, he ate fish, probably the lamb during the Passover, caused fishing nets to be full of fish, which are going to be killed and eaten, among other things?
Wlof25 Well it's possible that Jesus was a vegetarian (it doesn't seem likely, but it's possible - I won't go into all of the details but the kind of jewish subset that Jesus came from may not have eaten lamb at passover to avoid meat that may have been sacrificed to pagan idols, also I'm sure you've seen the "Jesus Fish" - there was an acronym around that associated Jesus with fish, so it's possible that at times in the Bible that describes when he fed people fish may have been figurative language for giving himself to them (not all of us interpret the Bible literally.)) Also, Jesus probably also didn't recycle, or drive a low-emissions vehicle either, what I mean by that is humans didn't know what B12 was at the time, so it would have been unhealthy and irresponsible of him to promote a vegan diet unless he also started explaining micronutrients, supplements, etc which weren't a thing then
Wlof25 Thank you for asking though, it is something I think a lot about, but as I mentioned, I think there's a lot of evidence supporting veganism in the Bible. Also, I think there are good people who eat meat or milk or eggs for many reasons and I wouldn't want them to feel like they have to be distanced from God because of it so I've come to terms with it.

Lamb was one of the Passover meals. The Jewish tradition was the mass lamb slaughter so lamb can be eaten during the Passover (Luke 22, and Luke 2:41-42, for example), you also have Jesus eating fish and honey.
Jesus fish is something else. Gospels are mentioning fish, as living thing, which is eaten.
And one thing is a figurative language when Jesus says I will make you fishers of men, and something completely different is narration, retelling.
I mean....Did Jesus fed 5000 people, ate fish, and made fish to be caught into fishing nets, with some figurative language? That is too much of a stretch.
The point I want to make is pretty clear. Veganism is not the focus of the Christianity, it never were. Some sort of veganism (not this modern. atheistic mess of veganism) works with Christianity, but also non veganism works with Christianity.
That is why when I, as a Christian, when talk with Christian vegans, I tend to appeal to the Christian key figure and who's teachings we follow. I was reading comments and many vegan Christians just appeal to some Old Testament random verses to say how Christians should be vegan, or something like that, but that is two edged blade, because you can find there also random verses which completely go hand in hand with non veganism.
@@Wlof25 it can be argued that before the fall, Adam and Eve ate a vegan diet, supplied by the garden. After the fall, when sin entered the world, death entered the world, which means that to survive, our lives became laced with death as a constant reminder of our disobedience. Animal sacrifice for food or sin offering became a way of life that reflected our fallen, bloody state. Death was inevitable. To live, people spilled blood again and again.
Jesus lived as Jews of his time lived. They lived as their ancestors lived. Jesus fed the people what the people of his time ate. He used metaphors and analogies that they, the common people, would understand. Fishing was a primary industry. People understood it. He used it to relate to the people. He also used agricultural terms to illustrate his teachings.
Passover was celebrated as a part of the Old Covenant. The slaughter of lambs was representative of the slaughter of Egyptian children and the symbol of the sparing of Israelite children. Jewish tradition is steeped in symbolism. Regardless, that covenant has passed as Jesus is the New Covenant. We are no longer bound by Torah.
Is there a biblical basis for saying all Christians should be vegan? No. There is no explicit commandment. Nor is there any specific commandment to have beef for dinner or eat lamb kebabs.
However, one could make an argument that since God made animals, declared them good and was pleased with them, that they as his creation (like the planet) have some special meaning to him. One could choose to extrapolate then that his greatest commandment could apply to not only how we treat animals, but also the planet. Matt 2:36-40
Curiosity though: are you vegan?
The problem with your comment about sweatshops in Bangladesh is two-fold: 1) continuing to purchase from companies that use sweatshops sends those companies the message that consumers do not care about who makes their clothes and that it's fine to carry on with business as usual; and 2) continuing to purchase from these companies contributes to incredible environmental damage in developing parts of the world.
Why do you think any companies have shaped up by monitoring their supply chains and/or creating more sustainable garments, etc? It's because of bad press (from Rana Plaza, for example) and the potential for boycotts that companies ditch the sweatshops and create recycled-water-bottle shoes. It's because some consumers have moved away from H&M and toward Everlane. It's because sustainable and ethical fashion has been proven to make money.
People seriously need to consider their clothing purchases also because they have an outsize impact on the environment (much like diet, though not to the same extent). America has a serious problem with over-consumption. We buy more clothes than we need, wear few of them, and throw the rest away, where they eventually end up in the landfill (whether you donate them or not). Combine that with the fact that many of our clothes are now made with plastic (polyester, spandex, elastane), which doesn't always biodegrade, or are just terrible quality, which means that we have to keep producing and purchasing new clothes, and the fashion industry does serious damage to the planet.
In short, I would encourage you to do more research and not suggest to your followers that people continue buying from sweatshops. I also really hope people do a bit more research and consider buying clothes made from natural fabrics (which biodegrade) and also fewer clothes. Though we can't control the trade policies and regulations of the world's governments, that doesn't mean our individual actions don't matter. Collectively, they send a message to companies and politicians that we care about human rights abuses and the environment.

Kelly I was hoping to find a comment addressing the sweatshops. I was really surprised to hear UV essentially state that buying sweatshop-produced clothes isn't so bad. That's just nuts.
Okay, I find her reasoning annoying. She is just listing everything wrong in the world as an excuse to eat meat. She can do everything she mentions and still be vegan. There is nothing and no one stopping her, except herself.
So weird that she tried to make “not following emotions” sound like a Christian thing. From a Christian standpoint, God GAVE you those emotions (empathy) so that you could know how to do good (have a conscience). Why would you want to ignore that? Not only would you feel bad about yourself, you’d also be totally directionless and have no sense of right and wrong.

Vegans value sentience not life. No learned vegan believes that if forced to choose, a human animal life is equal (morally) to a human animal's life. However, when it for pleasure and convenience, then the nonhuman animals interests of not being killed unnecessarily, outweigh those of a human animals desire for the taste of their flesh.

I know, it's not like we can't care about multiple things. Being a vegan is one thing I do, not everything.
It also kinda seems like she really only based that argument on a couple instances of her vegan friends buying clothes that were produced in sweatshops or doing things like that that might be questionable. Vegans are not like a hive mind, it’s not a religion or cult everyone implements it differently and for different reasons. ava maria I’m an Evangelical Christian. I did not see her original video, but from the responses and UV’s commentary, I cannot fathom that she (the anti-Vegan) truly understands the messages of Jesus Christ.
It’s pretty hypocritical of her to be raving about not supporting sweatshops and how we should care for people also while being anti vax because that actually causes a lot of needless harm and death, not only to her and her children, but also (if enough people follow in that philosophy) society as a whole.
I haven't watched the video yet so I don't know how applicable my comment will be, but here's my take on the whole theological side of veganism (in relation to Genesis):
I'm not Christian but I am a prospective convert to Judaism. Both of us follow the first five chapters of the Bible, called the Torah within Judaism.
In Genesis 1:11-13 it says that G-d created seed bearing plants (fruits) and filled the land with vegetation, seeing this as good.
In Genesis 1:20-26 G-d talks about the the birds and water animals which should be fruitful upon the earth. They then talk about land animals and how they should produce upon the Earth, however the names of the animals vary.
In the NIV Christian version of Genesis the animals are referred to as wild animals and livestock.
In the Torah version, which is in Hebrew, it refers to them as beasts and cattle.
It also talks about humans ruling over the animals in both translations BUT says in the Torah and NIV Bible in Genesis 1:29 that G-d has given you every seed bearing fruit and vegetation, and it shall be the *humans'* to eat.
My take from this is that with time and translation the narrative changed to fit the lifestyles of those reading the texts, Christians in this case. Hebrew is the original text of Genesis, making it the most reliable if someone is going to base their beliefs off of it.
Not sure if this made any sense but my point is: Look at the original text of Genesis and it supports veganism.

I’m pretty sure that the King James Version I have says that God has given the fruit trees and grasses to Adam and Eve to eat “as” their meat. Animals are only killed after they fuck up and sin by eating the forbidden fruit. To me, that points to a vegan Eden.

Why I am not Vegan: my cats. I love them, I want them to be happy and healthy and they need meat for that. My male cat also have liver problems and needs a special diet... I wont toy with the health of my animals. I also want to have cats in the future... this is the main problem I see for myself.
Also honey. My grandpa is a beekeeper and I grew up with bees. He is a small beekeeper and I simply don't see a problem with honey (when it comes from small beekeepers). Like... they produce so much?
I am not vegan... I eat mostly vegan and vegetarian at home and try to use as little animal products as possible. But I don't see a point to go completely vegan. I love my pets and I can't see myself having a vegan lifestyle. Sometimes I think I shouldn't even try because I will never be a full vegan and I will make people more angry with trying, do you know what I mean?
Like... vegans will be angry because I am not a vegan and my family will be annoyed because of my eating habbits.

The fact that you eat mainly vegan at home already makes such a big difference for your health, the animals, and the environment!
One thing I'd like to point out is that you can still be vegan and have non-vegan pets. I myself have fish, dogs, and crabs that eat omnivorous and Swayze's cats aren't vegan. Veganism isn't about cutting out every single non-vegan thing in life, because it simply isn't possible in our current world with medications, mislabeling on food, and simple mistakes when purchasing food or cosmetics. In my first 6 months of being vegan I've already accidentally eaten or bought something non-vegan more times than I can count. We all make mistakes but as vegans we accept it and work towards not doing it again.

Hello, I'd really love to see you talk about the fast fashion/ sweat shop topic. My knee-jerk reaction, having taught in a poor industrial region in Cambodia is to reject the industry but I'm well-aware that the issue is a lot more complicated and a large part of me still hopes that this initial, quite brutal industrialization will lead to more wealth and benefits for the population. It'd be quite different from your usual topics but could fit as it is connected to sustainability and environment preservation and seems to need some demystification.
I've made an entire video about why Christians should go vegan! I respond to the common anti-vegan Bible verses that people misinterpret and touch on Eden, how killing animals will be banned in the future, how all animals will be vegan, and even the fact that animals have souls and that heaven is vegan. All backed by Bible verses.
You are on fire with your latest updates! I really enjoyed the video, especially the fact that you are able to meet people where they are, and argue about Christian ethics without being a Christian. Most responses to people who justify eating meat with religion by atheist vegans is “your religion is fake!” Which is not helpful and doesn’t contribute to a productive debate.

Thank you for your straight forward scriptural presentation of arguments against Sarah’s “Biblical reasons to eat meat.” I appreciate your including them, knowing that you are atheists but that you acknowledge your viewers varied religions, experiences, etc.
This is something that I am always falling back on: the heavy Biblical argument for vegan/vegetarianism in the book of Genesis. I present my arguments assuming that the recipient believes in God (an argument for my Christian friends, you might say)
- First, I remind people that when God gave the animals to humans, He did not give them to us to abuse or exploit. Instead they were given as companions to Adam, and he was charged with the responsibility of taking care of them.
- I remind people that Adam and Eve were vegan in the garden of Eden (where God intended for them to live their entire lives.) He told them “you MAY eat from” any tree in the garden except for the one of Knowledge of Good and Evil. They were not told to eat animals there.
It was only after the fall (the sin of man) that man had to eat meat because of his expulsion from the garden and the new difficulties of growing food and working the land.
- And finally, a reminder that many Biblical practices were redeemed by Christ’s death. Including animal sacrifice.
The significance of sacrifice, ultimately paid by Christ, was felt by generations preceding His death, making the necessity of His death, God’s only son, that much more poignant. We recognize the significance of sacrifice because God’s sacrifice is so much more than anything we have ever had to sacrifice.

As a black, Christian, vegetarian I feel like I need to clarify something; the Bible does not condone slavery as we know it in America. Actually, the word 'slave' was mistranslated. What it really should say is 'servant' or 'worker' as the servants had choices whether to stay or go. There's quite a few scriptures instructing people to treat their workers well because we're all God's servants. This is nothing like the deplorable things that white americans tried to say was ok to doing to black people.
Very interesting what you said about buying fast fashion... I never thought about it that way. It’s been a while since I don’t shop this brands, as I believe that change is choosing who you give your money to. Instead I rather spend on more quality sustainable clothing (therefore consuming less as they are more expensive) or shop second hand. I thought doing this can help changing the industry. What can really be done then to change the bad condition that people suffer in this factories? Still supporting these brands that created this business structure seems counterproductive. I understand being vegan but not openly calling yourself that . Because of the overall back lash, stereotypes etc. But saying you dont want to be vegan due to social media is stupid . That is what i believe , you're life does not revolve around social media . There is a whole world outside , the real everyday life. I personally think it is silly to make that a reason to give up. The absolutely refreshing, non-mocking, well-researched position from which UV presented her arguments was such an unexpected surprise, and genuinely came as a relief to me.
Again, having recently discovered UV, and thoroughly enjoying over the past few weeks watching through her backlog of older videos, I have found such enjoyment in listening to UV’s manner of expressing information about veganism (a topic I have had many questions about, and a desire to more thoroughly understand, for some time), nutrition , weight loss, parenting, and all manner of things she has covered over the years. I have been so fully enjoying her intelligence and perspectives on nearly everything she has made videos about thus far.
I watch/listen to a LOT of You Tube throughout my daily activities, while driving and running errands, etc...& I find it difficult to continue watching and learning from those who routinely openly mock my choice to follow Jesus Christ, the Abrahamic Bible and the teachings therein. Even if it isn’t done routinely, so many You Tubers and people not on YT will condescend to those who are followers of Christ, and it grieves my heart so much. Christianity seemingly is the one remaining thing (aside from veganism, apparently, 😂😤) people still feel “safe” to freely criticize about others, applying none of the sensitivity that is expected today towards other belief systems and ways of life. People are called out immediately for being the bigots which they very certainly ARE if they are disrespectful towards anyone who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, for example. However, Christians are held in the seemingly lowest esteem by those with other belief structures (atheists, agnostics, other religions) and are mocked and disrespected seemingly for sport IMO, in social media, regular media (like mainstream TV, movies and music), and on YT, outside of Christian channels. By the way, I do recognize that there is not a direct parallel between Christianity (seen as simply a belief structure to most) and being LGBTQ+ (considered by some to be a “way of life” or sexual orientation one makes a decision to adopt, SLIGHTLY similar to one consciously choosing to follow a specific theological belief structure as fact-and by others as plainly “living life out while loving those persons whom I was born attracted to. Period.”)...those very significant differences aside, I chose the parallel these two things as belief structures held which reflect in a way of life that is unflinching, hopefully that makes sense? Im in NO manner trying to minimize or pigeon-hole any persons. That said....
I honesty pray that UV will see this though since I doubt she will considering how old this video is, therefore I’m addressing my points more so to UV’s usual viewers. I apologize referring to her/you as “UV” but I don’t think she uses her actual name purposely-is that accurate? I, too, feel Sarah is absolutely atrocious at making any reasonable points in her video. She doesn’t seem to understand well that which she is trying to express, as she cannot verbalize her perspectives in an intelligent, fleshed-out manner which includes much supporting evidence or many persuasive arguments. I felt that she was making the most simplistic, “basic” excuses for most of what she said. I say this with full awareness that I am often atrocious at making some of my points when defending my firmly held beliefs and opinions. This is a thing I am constantly trying to improve upon. In my opinion, they just want to eat meat and come up with any excuse they can to eat it. Some of my relatives used the excuse that they started feeling sick without eating it. Even though they had been vegan for a year. And they all magically became sick from it at the same time. It's funny because before that, they would say how healthy it made them feel.
CKT92 could it just be that they weren’t eating a proper diet and were lacking in essential nutrients, maybe that’s why they started feeling better? Like I’m not trying to attack or anything
I think it's different for different people. Some people felt fine and are just using this as an excuse to re-include those foods. Others really did feel poorly, but it's because they weren't eating a balanced, healthy vegan diet. If you switch from a junk food meat-eater diet to a vegan one full of salads, smoothies, whole grains, etc. you might feel great despite it, say, being too low in iron, zinc, etc. on account of not eating many legumes. You might feel great for awhile because you were topped up in those nutrients from your previous diet. After awhile, though, your levels will drop off, and you might not feel so great. A lot of people at this point just assume it's because of veganism and give up, as opposed to looking into how to properly balance their diet while remaining vegan.
I went from vegan to being vegetarian again. I did this mainly because of my mental and physical health. I have a severe eating disorder, categorizing food nearly catapulted me back into anorexia. With vegetarian i can eat mor freely and dont feel so oppressed so eat "the right things". Also i developed severe b12 defficiency even tho i took the right amount of substitutes. I am now metally and physically more healthy. But still i think veganism is a good thing.

It bothers me to NO END when people say "God gave us animals so we could eat them." I am and have grown up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints and members are supposed to follow the council of a "Word of Wisdom" that was written by Joseph Smith, and for SOME REASON, most members think that the Word of Wisdom basically says we're supposed to eat meat, when in fact it says that meat should be eaten only sparingly in times of winter or famine. In this day and age there literally is NO famine for anyone who has access to a grocery store in the United States.
I thought your reasoning regarding the sweatshops was lazy. Just like with animal products harm is caused in those sweatshops and by buying these clothes you are financially supporting that, theres nothing good about it and we don't need to try and justify it to ourselves.
Would moving the production back to counties in Europe or the US with stricter restrictions and protective laws for workers solve that? No, like you said, a lot of families would lose their income and be forced to do other harmful work.
Instead we need to be financially supporting companies that to good for the local communities in those areas as well as pay their workers a fair wage and make sure the working conditions are good and safe.
Saying "oh boycotting them would be bad so we might as well just keeping what we're doing" is just plain lazy imo
I'm more concerned when people turn veganism into a religion. Many atheists become "religious" for causes and ideologies. It's almost as if the human mind is wired to want to follow a dogma and want to be bound to certain standards. I sometimes think roaming ideologies like fashion trends, politics, etc. can make people very fanatical. In many atheist communist countries, people would worship the state and the communist leader.
Veganism is always going to be interpreted in multiple ways, but when vegans take it to a fervor that matches religion, these people really do enact all of the major criticisms usually launched against religions, with closed-minded views, etc.
In some ways, I sometimes wonder if we are meant to have a religion (any religion) or at least a set of stories and myths as a cultural buffer, to prevent humans from getting distracted by every fad that comes by. You need something to bounce ideas off of, in a healthy way. It's an interesting topic, and I liked hearing Swayze Unnatural Vegan's take on this. Wow! I am subscribed to Sarah, (only for a few more minutes) and I enjoy her videos because I find them aesthetically pleasing and I like watching people organize. I often watch her videos before bed and she’ll say something that sounds like a clickbait headline and my husband will roll over and say “did she really just spout that nonsense?”
I hadn’t seen her video that you discuss here, and I’m not impressed with her lack of reasoning or her attacking of others.
I was watching her “what I eat in a day” video that was sponsored by the mushroom drink brand, which sounded like a gimmick to me. In the comments, I saw someone recommend your video on the brand, which is how I got to this video! You present facts and sources, and you reason! I am not a vegan, but my husband and I are discussing reducing our intake of animal products and I’m looking forward to watching your videos! Thanks!

As well as mentioning Gen. 1:29 and Jewish Veg! To me, it seems, throughout the Hebrew Bible, God is very uncomfortable with meat eating.

Thank you for this video, not necessarily for the response to her, but for the information that you provided that taught ME a lot...from the part about grass fed beef to the stuff in the Bible that’s actually supportive of vegetarianism/ veganism.
Another "fun fact" about the animal industy and green house gasses. The more cows are outside, the worse they are for the enviroment. If they are kept inside, the methane from the cows stays inside and can be used for other things, like heat. If they stay outside, the methane cannot be absorbed and instead it goes into the air.
I think you mean manure instead of methane, because methane is a gas that simply will mix and diffuse with the air and will be ventilated (without ventilation cows would probably suffocate at some point in the cowshed) out of the cowshed. Manure in cowsheds can be collected and burned to generate energy. However, if this is not the case could you please share a source, I would be really interested to learn more about the use of methane produced by cows.
@@AJorisM I do mean methane. It can be taken up by the ventilation and used for other things. But yes, manure is also something that will be collected and then used for other things. I now this from my friend, who studies "husdyrvidenskab" (dont really know the translation, but directy it means domestic animal science. Its a BA and masters from the university of Copenhagen.). She learned this from her studies, but also from going to farms and so on. In the filtration system they can collect methane and reuse it for heating. Now they might not do this everywhere, but I tried to find some english sources. I found this from 2011, so it might also be a thing in the US. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4513474/
The link you send me was a system to measure methane emissions. I do not think this has anything to do with (large scale) methane collection except for the use of data collection. I mean do you want to say that you keep cows in giant hoods in Denmark, I highly doubt that.Even if they would, figure 10 shows that as soon ventilation (which eventually will be needed as cows generally suffocate when they lack oxygen) is present the methane concentration drops back to almost 0 ppm. Also based on figue 10, the peak measurement of the methane in this measurement device is almost 1.6 times lower than the flammability limit (0.25%) of methane (at 20 degrees celcius). Which is a good thing else non-ventilated cowsheds would become flammable, but does mean that the concentration of methane still needs to be refined, which does not seem to be cost efficient to me compared to any other source of methane. Maybe send me some Danish papers, with my native language and my experience with other language I may be able to understand it (just like I understand "husdyrvidenskab" easily, "husdyr" is similar to the Dutch 'huisdier' and videnskab is close enough to the German 'Wissenschaft' and Dutch 'wetenschap'.
Cows are meant to be outside to get Vitamin D and sunlight. Also, you emit methane when you fart too.
The intellectual rigour you apply to any topic you cover is what makes you, in my opinion, SO essential as a public figure. CZcams needs you. All of social media needs you. And we are all SO lucky that you choose to do what you do.

I love the highlighting of the the real issue with corporations. It's not a secret conspiracy their job is to get money and they only answer to 2 parties their stockholders and the government (which can be corrupt, misguided, and bias too).
Also, from my understanding of Judaism, we don't sacrifice animals. We can't until the temple is rebuilt at the time of the Messiah.

I say this all the time, but I loveeee seeing a different type of vegan that is not all, low protein, raw, allllll not processed food, completely closed minded to diets that aren’t just like theirs. I’ve been vegetarian then vegan for almost three years and I just loooove your channel.
Since the first Temple in Jerusalem was built animal sacrifice in judaism has only been permitted there. The Romans destroyed the Second Temple in 70 CE, and the until the Third Temple is built (which will probably never happen) animal sacrifice is not something a practicing jew is allowed to do.
Hi! I'm definitely not even close to vegan, but I am trying to be mindful of the quantity and quality of the animal products I do consume (e.g., locally sourced, free range, and plant based about 75% of the time). Due to some unspecified issue with my metabolism, as well as my being Lebanese (lamb and fish are huge staples), I've found it extremely difficult to go completely plant based.
I thought you brought up a good point about the potential environmental harm done even at these "natural, sustainable" farms, as well as the potentially horrible methods in which the animals are killed (discussed in your other videos). Because of Lebanon's proximity to predominantly Muslim countries, there is a huge emphasis on eating halal, even in Christian communities. Although I haven't found a good one in my current city, my family used to regularly eat halal meat from a friend who owned a small shop and cared for all his animals at his family farm. Halal butchers are also ~supposedly~ practicing more humane and sanitary processes--although as with anything this will vary. What are your thoughts on halal meat? I mean relative to other meat processing and production, as I know you're opposed to consuming any animal products at all.

Those morality-themed response videos are my favorite. Honestly watching those kinds of videos from your channel was one of the main things that convinced me to go vegan about a year ago. I understand that they take more effort though and I appreciate it!
I usually don't eat eggs, but my girlfriend has chickens and rabbits in her garden.
They don't sell them and treat them really good.
I think that's the only eggs I will ever eat.

As always, I thought this was a great video. However, I think your analysis of sweatshops was reductionist (which, considering what all you touched on, is understandable). Yes, sweatshops may offer better wages, but the hours are much longer, and the risk of injury is higher, which I feel you glossed over. That being said, it is a complex issue and changing one's consumption may not be the correct response. Would love to see a more in-depth response from you on this topic. Take care!
I really appreciate your respectful approach to this topic; solidly debunking the reasons behind Sarah's anti-vegan stance while not tearing her down because of her religion. (And, in fact, showing how being vegan is more compatible w/ a Christian lifestyle than not being vegan)
