comedy writers are cursed. They try to write exaggerated fiction to make dark things funny and then the person they are making fun of turns out to be more disturbing and unintentionally funny.

He's done it before. I think it's part of his interpretation of the character. Lithgow goes to a weird place of spastic insanity to play Rudy. He organically trips over his lines to sound like a lunatic and recovers by turning it around on Sharon. Brilliant. Acting. Genius.
Rudy should give a press conference next to an adult bookstore in Times Square.

I met John Lithgow once. He was walking his dog on the UCLA campus, really early in the morning. I complimented the dog, and he wished me a good morning. It was a really lovely encounter.

John is like a Swiss army knife can do pretty much everything with consummate ease, from comedy to drama. Third rock from the sun had me in stitches and even some controversial characters he played like Red tails to the damn right bad ass characters like in Cliffhanger had me rivetted to the screen. Always admired him and great to see he still has that aura, That MOJO
One of the best A listers of all time and great to see him still on the scene.
He was also the perfect voice for Lord Farquaad in _Shrek_ .
I'd like to add his Winston Churchill in The Crown was top tier. He had me crying on his last appearance.

For decades I've said that John Lithgow's finest performance was in "Twilight Zone: The Movie" and he should have won an Oscar for that role. But...this role may be even greater.

I just saw it for the first time last week.
My favorite of his was *Terms of Endearment* and *RICOCHET!!!* He was the villain in Ricochet and he was Brilliant!!! John Lithgow and Denzel Washington were magic together in that movie.
don't forget about when he played a trans woman in "The World According to Garp" with Robin Williams. fantastic movie, i definitely recommend.
The Twilight Zone movie was my introduction to him. In fact, I stayed seated in the theater to watch for his name in the credits I was so blown away. Totally eclipses the original one with Shatner without the help of the improved special effects.
