For a while now Mario has struggled to maintain a consistent level of quality between his 3D and 2D games. While Super Mario Odyssey received universal critical acclaim and public opinion remains as positive as ever, the 2D adventures have fallen to the wayside, with the New Super Mario Bros. series becoming particularly stale and repetitive.
However, Super Mario Bros. Wonder aims to change that, by giving us a brand new adventure with new gameplay mechanics, new power-ups and a brand new world to explore.

Just finished the game 100%. I really liked it, but I'm actually disappointed! The game starts incredibly strong, with levels that look amazing, new music and a feeling that things will get very wacky, but as you continue playing it just kinda never goes anywhere. Difficulty remains the same for the whole game (except for some of the very few secret levels), very little new music/mechanics are introduced and it just seems a bit monotonous by the last 3rd of the game.
I think it's a solid 8 but still cannot beat SMB3 or World.
Flowers are the best though.
smb3 is not that hard considering the fact that you can skip from world 1 straight to world 8. If you mean beating every world then maybe it’s a different story.

13:40 honestly this mechanic seems to be an idea ripped straight from Death Stranding, of all games. I can't recall any other game doing something similar before that one.
Wonder is definitely the best 2D Mario game in over 2 decades. It makes you wonder what Nintendo was doing all this time with the NSMB games. (I don't think the NSMB games are bad, I just see them as the gaming equivalent of fast food. Even during the difficult sections in those games, I felt my brain turning off.) I'm bing bing wahooing for real. From what I played, there was very little for me to dislike. The only level I didn't enjoy so far was that hippo stage in the special world. To me, it came off as inconsistent and jank.
Also, I agree with the idea that the badges should have been builtin or unlockable moves. It could have given Wonder a metroidvania vibe by making you have to go back to older levels.
I would have fixed the badge issue by recommending specific badges for each level
SMBU didn't deserve that 😢
The only thing i would complain about is how short the game actually is. I felt like i was speed running through all the worlds. Even though i wasn't. But other than that it's a really great game. Just wished it was a bit longer

I tried this game at a friends house and I found it too easy and very much made for kids... I only played the first few levels

Your suggestion is true, it would have been much better.
Elephant Powerup is also nothing like Cappy of Mario Odyssey. It is very limited and boring
I grew up in the 90's and World grew on me as one of my alltime favorites but Wonder gets darn near close.
The singing Piranhas in the second stage are one of my highlights and even though it is no necessity, I really like the online semi coop mode.
Graphics look fresh, the princesses are playable and the new voices are fine too for my taste.
Sure it is expensive but I had a good time with it, doing my second run casually now.

I 100%'ed the game in a week lol, so this game was not worth the $67 I spent on the game.
I agree you with the badge system. It was my only partial negative with the game. Entire time I was wishing we had updated move sets so the final levels could be hard as hell
Boss battles were never interesting or challenging in ANY Mario game.

To be honest, looks stupid and the same as the old super mario bros, gets boring after 30 minuts, is not worth it, just dont buy.
The game was boring, repetitive, childish and did I already mention, BORING? Visually it was stunning tho, but very, VERY underwhelming for a 2D Mario game. Even NSMB DS is more exciting.
"Childish" I don't really feel other than those encouraging "you're almost there" "take a break if you need" or "you did it!" pats on the back from the talking flowers. Definitely made me feel that clearly this a "challenge" meant for the kiddos.
Boring ✅ Short levels ✅ Handicaps out the wazoo ✅ Wonder flowers effects nowhere nearly match the hype ✅ 95% brain dead simple levels and 5% "ok I have to pay attention a bit" levels ✅
Over, over, overrated.
Mario games are some of the most boring games ever made and in 2023 i still don't understand the hype.
