Whilst UNIT are now in Stark tower, remember that in RTD1 they were in Cloudbase, with Captain Jack as Captain Scarlet. The rips-offs were always there, and the more it happens the more obvious it gets that the Emperor has no clothes.

What else do you expect from a hack like Davis? I actually don't mind the borrowing and adaptation of ideas... as long as they are done by people who know what they are doing; and therein lies the problem.

Terrific stream as always. If RTD2 has done anything for me as a die-hard Classic Who fan, it's made me appreciate the RTD1 era more than I used to. I'm currently rewatching Series 2 (most recently Tom MacRae's Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel two-parter) and the difference in quality from what we are spoon-fed now is astounding. And yes Nick, you're making complete sense when you said that you simply sat down and watched Doctor Who one day and enjoyed it for what it was, and picked up the lore as you went along. That you knew instinctively that it was pushing your buttons and wanted to see more. That not everyone will feel the same way, but there'll be some other show that will give them that experience. A quality programme of any stripe is unapologetic in its identity, the product of confidence and clarity in those who make it and know who their viewers are, and one that wants to tell a story rather than push an agenda. While the soap opera of the RTD1 era will never be to my taste, at least I can say that it had that kind of confidence. That much-prized target audience of under-30s clearly picked up on this the first time round, and are just as able, instinctively, to see that it's not there this time around. Like we older folks, they aren't fooled by the rhetoric.

Thanks for your contributions and yes rtds nonsense logic for writing simplistic ill-judged stories now is exposed when you view what he used to do

In 2005 the newly regenerated Doctor can look at his ears for the first time and still appear in the Earth's history in old photographs. In the words of the Doctor: "I'm a time traveler, figure it out."
It has been established and in any case I always assumed, we only see the Doctor's interesting adventures rather than the sightseeing.

42:25 I am starting to suspect that Ncuti's stories were originally pitched to Disney as Tennant's, which would explain why they changed his sexuality (suddenly fancying the historically deeply unsexy Isaac Newton). Thus the post Capaldi newly retraumatized 14th Doctor could be prone to tears and indecision and now I notice the merciless slaughter of the Goblin King matches his merciless slaughter of the Sycorax leader in his first outing after his original regeneration as 10.
And then he got Ncuti green lighted and a supposedly newly chilled Doctor. The poor quality implies a lack of competence/effort/time in attempting to rewrite it for the new casting. It also explains the need for the deeply awful bi-generation to replace Tennant without killing him off (contracted for more episodes?) including making a new TARDIS with an ACME toon hammer. It doesn't help that Gatwa isn't half the actor Tennant is.
Mind you this is academic for me, I haven't watched any of it outside reactions since the goblin musical number started...

RTD's first run was almost entirely made up of ideas, characters and plots other people had created since 1996.
There are stories/ideas from Big Finish, the New Adventures, the 8th Doctor adventures and the the 8th Doctor comics.
He used things from Marc Platt, Rob Shearman, Scott Gray and others.
