Cleaned out my grandma's house after she passed and found a ROOM full of her students work from when she was a teacher in the 1960's...

Love your videos! You comfort my inner child that was bullied at school a lot and didn’t really have a teacher or principal that took it seriously! You just seem like that safe teacher!

I was this kind of teacher. I cared so much more about the kid than the work... of course I could tell how they were doing the work if they understood it, but I got Teacher of the Year many times...it's about the heart... and thank you for caring enough about them to make this video! 💗

I have folders my fifth grade students keep their weekly assignments in. Not the assignments I grade but the ones I check to see who needs extra help. I alternate between two sets of folders so that I have a week to check while they are using the alternate. So I am not grading every Weekend. After multiple times of handing the papers back to pull the same papers out of their folders again and again and again. No matter how many times they are told to take them home, those papers never go home. I now throw the papers away. I periodically save certain assignments to show improvement. Sometimes a student will let me know they want an assignment saved. Otherwise I am not going to save them. ps. To get kinders and first graders to put their names on their papers, find a paper without a name and announce "This is the best paper ever. It does not have a name. I am going to put my name on it and take it home to my mom. I hope she puts it on her refrigerator." When a child claims the paper, pretend that you really want it and since it doesn't have a name you can just put yours. Your mom definitely needs something for her fridge. They always remember after that.

Lol. Fun fact: the brain is kind of programmed to skip negative words like not. So in working memory, "don't forget your folder" becomes "do forget your folder". To counter this, use the opposite angle:
    "Remember your folder!"
Studies have actually shown this to be effective, according to an old teacher in university:)

My kiddos are in their 20s but less work they brought home the better. There was always an overabundance of schoolwork to deal with. I'm sure it hasn't gotten better! I bet your parents are probably cheering! hahaha
