  • Formula 1 design legend Adrian Newey could depart Red Bull with speculation rife he wants to leave and potentially make a sensational move to a rival team.

Leaving Red Bull would mark the end of an era that even surpasses Lewis Hamilton’s time and success at Mercedes - and beg the question of where Newey goes next and the seismic impact that could have on F1 if he did join a rival team.

Until now none of that happened and it starts to feel more like targeted media campaign than actual crisis in RB. There likely is conflict between Marko-Horner and "external forces" (Toto most likely) are trying to pour some fuel on on that small sparks expecting it to burst into huge fire.
In the meantime if I was an exec at Mercedes (car brand) I would start considering selling my 1/3 of shares in the team since it's now 3rd fastest Merc powered team on the grid. Toto is clearly incompetent and more focused on his revenge against Horner than on running his own team.
So the most likely cause of this story is that Newey plans his retirement and Toto is afraid that the only battle they can win now is the battle with Williams for the title of worst Merc powered car.

The dynasty was likely to be over in 2026 anyways, it's gonna be tough for RBPT to produce the best engine on the grid on their first try even with Ford's help against the likes of Honda, Mercedes and Ferrari. Even Audi has some serious hybrids pedigree. May as well cash in now while the team is at its prime. Horner in more power would make some ridiculous cash from it, not to mention the ego stroking, even if RBR goes to shit a few years from now, so from his POV it's totally worth it and no one can really stop him since the Thai's don't really give a shit about the RBR team's success.

I don't think he'll stay in F1 if he leaves RBR. What does he have left to prove in F1? What hasn't he already done? He wasn't super enthusiastic about the new-for-2022 regulations and now he's had a hand in the new dominator anyway. I think he'll either retire or go to a series with more design freedom in its regulations.
Or, just work at whichever OEM will let him do the hypercar he seemingly didn't get done his way at Aston Martin and wants to do again (hence RB17). Or maybe he'll do an LMH or a Pikes Peak car or something, that'd be cool.
