Why at least one Red Bull F1 driver is getting dropped

  • Five into three just won’t go in the fight to land Red Bull F1 seats in 2025, and within that equation is the inevitable outcome that one current Red Bull driver will be dropped this year.
Both Red Bull’s main team and its second outfit have key roles to play in the F1 silly season that has started unusually early in 2024.
How that shakes out is going to be massively influenced by what Red Bull does. And two recent revelations mean we now know exactly what its choices are - which guarantees disappointment is on the cards for some of the drivers in contention.

DR came to within one tenth of a second to MV's qualifying time on a test run in the RB19 last year, before he joined the sister team as a driver.

Best thing to happen is Lance going to WEC, Yuki replacing him, Ricciardo being very good and replacing Perez who can go to a leading role in a slower team and Lawson plus another junior joing Torro Rosso

I'm still seeing Yuki being part of the Aston/Honda partnership. Lance is simply not getting any better and with his father selling interests in the team to new investors as well as Honda's PU deal something has got to give. Lance should be given his golden watch and a nice seat on Aston's Hyper Car team.

Sainz and perez want multi year deals. Redbull is offering them both only 1yr deals. Lucrative part of sainz's audi deal is that its a multi year deal. Mercedes are looking to send antonelli to williams for a year to find his footing in F1 and also offered sainz a 1yr deal

    1. Max will obviously be safe
    2. Perez will be safe ( if he keeps driving like he is now)
    3. It will probably be both Tsunoda and Danny Ric ( unless Daniel starts showing some serious race pace). RB have never really put any eggs in the Tsunoda basket. Hes been racing pretty well as of late, but I dont think it will be enough

If Liam doesn’t get a seat somewhere after outqualifying Max at one of the world’s hardest circuits then I think Red Bull has some serious explaining to do.

  • @andyelliott3198

I think Red Bull will offer Perez a one year extension and he will either take it, go elsewhere or retire from F1. If Checo does leave then I would choose Tsunoda to partner Verstappen, and have experienced Ricciardo staying at RB alongside Lawson. Daniel has had his time at Red Bull so I think it's time Yuki got the call up, he deserves his shot at the sharp end. I think Sainz will be at Audi alongside Hulkenberg in 2025, Carlos at Aston Martin would be a great move, but that all depends on what Laurence Stroll wants to do with his son Lance.

Red Bull put Nick DeVries, Gasley, Liam, and Riccardo into RB/Alpha Tauri with the intend of moving one of these drivers up to Red Bull Racing. Yet, all was beaten or matched by Yuki, and for some reason, Horner is very high on Riccardo, and ignoring Yuki.

If they can’t pay him what he wants, then it just won’t happen.. also Sainz would put up a stronger fight against Max, and I don’t think Red Bull wants to have a Merc 2016 situation on their hands. If checo can secure enough double podiums to lock up the constructors early in the season, I’ve no doubt they’ll retain him for another year as a solid 2nd driver.

It would be interesting to see what would happen to Lawson if both Yuki and Daniel suddenly started doing well. Scoring points here and there switching between performances and staying close.
Would Helmut Marco just deny Lawson a 2025 seat or kick one of the two drivers out regardless of form.
I guess in this hypothetical it would put more pressure on Lawson to perform if he is given a seat when Yuki and Daniel were doing well.

I feel like the seats wont change at redbull, I think the most likely thing to happen is that sainz will go to the audi works team, yuki will go to reserve for aston martin (when honda goes to AM) lawson and danny will drive the RBs. they have no reason to kick checo either, hes performing exactly or close enough to where he needs to be.
