Great old vans [I had 2 of the LT35 version].... as long as you don't want to go anywhere that involves climbing hills. It would be quicker then to get out and walk. Also a good idea to fit a non-return valve before the fuel filter [or always park facing downhill] as the fuel loves to run back into the tank, when parked up facing uphill. Leading to hard starting.
@michaelmazani not a good idea, watched a video of a large Cummins diesel that dud this on the dyno and several people almost got seriously injured when thar Cummins tossed it cookies 😮😮😮
@@carlbernard4197 I once stopped a running wild 24 liter catapillar turbo diesel by putting my thick wintercoat in the intake ; all you have to do ist do it as fast as you can !

Good job. Just found this vid by occasion. My new personal favourite, iconic with the I6 Patrol pulling it out. Love the patient and smart step by step work of you. The I6 diesel's (more or less all of them I would suggest) are simple and graceful powertrains, plain power and simple technics. Doesn't matter if VW, BMW or Nissan etc. Depends only how the driver treat's it it can last forever. Was concidering to get a LT as a camper in future, too, but I am planning to get a similar truck my father had in my youth. MB NG 1222 (My father had a 1422, but they are not that common, and as ex-firetrucks they are pretty available). I love the sound of the V6 NA, it is has a distinctive sound and also lives forever, the fuel economy is not the best but this is not that important for me, I wouldn't drive that much with it. Move on!
In those years it was a great machine 😀 now put it in a pile, clean it, repair it, and it's a great machine for weekend sleepovers and fishing... Or anything else, I want to ask, won't there be a video about washing it? Otherwise, great video again 😀
14:36 Aaahhh yes, just as I remember it.. My parents had a brown Volvo 245 GL Diesel with this engine in it. On morning startup it would cover the whole street in smoke...memories hahaha
I have an LT35 (facelifted) with the same body and engine as this LT28, brilliant van! Last month I used her to haul back my newly purchased Peugeot J9 (cool van aswell), bearing in mind the LT weighs 1.8 tons dry, the trailer 0.7 tons and the J9 1.7 tons dry, that makes 4.2 tons (+70 litres fuel, and 2 passengers, oh and a spare gearbox for the J9 which weighs about 250 kilos) so more like 4.7 tons, all that with the bone stock 73 hp D24 for 350 kms (one way)! No overheating, didn't skip a beat, only downside was the 1st gear crawl up at least a couple of hills (lol)
I borrowed an old LT some time ago to collect some chipboard apr. 100 km from my place..... some on the LT some more on the trailer..... I inflated all tyres to around 6.5 Bar but stil noticed how the tyres seemed low on pressure (?????!!!?)..... the LT had a bit of a hard time going back home.... on the scale at the neighbour’s place it showed a total weight of 10.700 kilograms.....
