Part 3: • Lil Flip on Signing $2...
Part 1: • Lil Flip: I Have Songs...
    --------
In this clip, Lil Flip opened up about dropping his debut album "Leprechaun" in 1999 at the young age of 18. He went on to explain how his family's entrepreneurial spirit rubbed off on him and led him to hustle his way into dropping music. After speaking about the meaning behind the album's name, Lil Flip detailed his friendship with DJ Screw, who crowned him the freestyle king on St. Patrick's Day. He then spoke about getting the call about DJ Screw's death, which you can hear more about above.

Man, that Album cover🌈🍀 was the reason why people bought the CD especially if you didn't know Lil Flip🍀. It got the consumers attention and curiosity. It even got little kids to tell their parents to buy the album🌈🍀 because it was so colorful and it reminded them of the cereal. That album blew lil Flip🍀 up and made him millions💰 coming in the rap game. After Flip way... later on people started to copy his style and were making their Album Covers more Animated. People didn't understand how he had all the jewelry💍💎, cash $$$, and cars🚗 coming in before signing to a Mojor. 1 word I.N.D.E.P.E.N.D.E.N.T.. Back then cds we’re selling for a dub, he sold 100k copies of that album independently according to Apple Music, y’all do the math. He’s saying he sold more than that, crazy how these record labels rape artists.

I’m not a huge Flip fan but I’ll always turn him on from time to time out of respect for what he’s done. How many acts in the music business, especially back then, can say they sold 100,000 copies of an album 100% on their own? On that merit alone I’ll always keep Flip in my playlist.

One of my favorite Lil Flip songs and still bump to till this very day! The cover was a label move. They opted for that. Not him. They signed him to sell records and potentially be a crossover southern artist. They wanted someone with a universal appeal not STREET (light skin) and they can sell to women (this is before T.I and Ludacris) executives are looking at him like he's tall, he can rap. Only Flip being so young I don't think he understood in the future how that image would play on his moniker.
