    You nailed it Jon regarding Auro 3D. It’s the Auromatic up mixing (particularly with multi channel sources) that make Auro 3D stand out heads and tails above the rest. Great to see it coming on strong. Keep up the great vids as always.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Před rokem +3

      For me adoption rates by brands on each is the most telling as to how well a format is doing. The outlier is standard DTS:x. While it’s adoption has been equal to Atmos, I just don’t see it used that much. My guess is that the licensing isn’t that expensive and that the prior success of DTS has caused brands to feel it was a core requirement. But no one seems to be saying dts:x has any advantage over the other immersive formats as they did in the pre-immersive days. -Jon

      @@ripewave there are certain times I do like using the DTS:X algorithm, but most of the time it dumps too much into the center channel for music upmixing. That’s my biggest complaint with DTS X, and DTS:x pro.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Před 11 měsíci +3

      I agree - dumping too much content to the center channel kills the experience. I am looking for an immersive experience where the stage is wide and surrounds me. Pushing to center is like going back to mono. -Jon

    I've tried everything and although I tend to bias toward DTS-based formats, Auro-3D is the runaway winner for me in terms of upmixing. It never sounds gimmicky, and lets you adjust the effect.

    I’m Auromatic (Auro-3D) all the way. Can’t listen to no other format. I’m very happy to see more adoption. With the recommended speaker configuration for Auro-3D make all the other formats sounds even better their native formats.

    Great video-Would like to see the possibility of some of these formats arriving with firmware updates. Buying a new receiver just for a format is not something most of us can afford if we already have a new receiver.

    • @ripewave
      @ripewave  Před rokem +3

      I agree. Sometimes it is possible, but the brand decides not to provide the update and requires you to purchase a new unit. Very hard for most of us. In other cases, there can be some hardware constraints. For example, DTS:x Pro requires more channels (beyond 7.1.4). There have been cases where the firmware was not designed in a manner that permits certain types of feature additions. -Jon

    Hi great stats thank you!
    My opinion is Dolby Atmos seems to not have but very few worthy titles, the efforts to create correct object sound placement is disappointing. Whether it's budget driven or skill level I'm not sure but it's highly spoken about across many enthusiasts hence why Auro-3d up mix can improve Alot of the titles that lack the experience of correct object management.

      And.. Dolby puts out licenses for items that have NO business having 'atmos' lables.. so its a choice against many levels.
      DTS was always my fav format.. even their intro for DTS way back was coolest. Dolby just seems to be a bully with blanket tactics to corner the market.

    IMAX Enhanced is a big flop as a format, so you can throw that in the trash. Auro3D is very, very limited in its use and mainly overseas on a few tracks. Maybe, if you like it, have it for Auromatic upmixing, but for native Auro3D... good luck with all that. You need Dolby Atmos and DTS: X Pro. With Pro, that cuts down on your choices by a bit. Supposedly, the Monolith HTP-1 is scheduled to get it in early 2024. Then there are newer 9.1.4 and above Denon/Marantz models with it, Trinnov Altitudes, Storm Audio, and maybe a few others.

      @@Linkone7 No i havn't tried it. i do have my layout pretty optimal with 4 in ceiling "atmos" speakers and a 7 channel base. options are good to a point but also muddies up the landscape too. i think its clear Dolby Atmos has won the object based environment and it would be simpler for consumers if most if not all new content was encoded in atmos. everytime a new format is announced it makes it that much harder for consumer-based equipment to be able to do it all.

    • @trauma50disaster1
      @trauma50disaster1 Před 10 měsíci

      @@3184Patrick I find many atmos tracks lacking, where expected object based sounds should occur and they are just not encoded by the engieneers. Others in the industry have conducted interviews you can explore where the sound guys explain the studio does not give them the time or money to do it correctly, which many of us notice in the final product at home.
      When atmos is done right it's great, but often even the great tracks are not the entire movie and we are left wanting yet again. For me, auro3d corrects this through it's intelligent algorithm. I have tested back and forth and find data in my heights that sounds great that is absent in the atmos track.
