1. Go to the beaches.
2. Drive an hour to the mountains for hiking, an hour-and-half for skiing in winter.
3. Drive two hours to the desert (Joshua Tree National Park).
4. Get a boat and go to the Channel Islands, or take the ferry to Catalina Island.
5. Take a drive north along Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Barbara.
6. Check out the incredible ethnic restaurants of LA.
7. Museums (Getty Museum, The Broad, etc.; Huntington Library in spring).
8. Shopping.
9. Amusement parks (not worth the money; spend the money on shopping instead).
10. Chinatown.

Best time to visit Joshua Tree is right after the rainy season in early spring. Not only for the desert flowers, but the blooming Ocotillo patch is unreal. It will look like another planet.

Good job 👍! This is a great list. I will add that right across from #2 is the LA central library, which is the largest in the City with beautiful architecture. Also close to the observatory is Americana, a fancy shopping center. There are other beautiful beaches such as hermosa, Malibu, Long Beach and Huntington.

For people watching Beverly Hills Rodeo drive is lots of fun. Sit and 'bag count'. Try to see who has the most fancy and expensive store bags. Locals tip - Go to Rite Aid on Canon dr., two blocks east of Rodeo for inexpensive great ice cream and treats. Sit on the patio and count the number of high end cars stopping by for their six pack of bud lite. Enjoy LA.

i enjoyed renting a cabin in lake arrowhead, shop at factory outlets, go to TJ for tacos and churros, have mini vacations to puerto vallarta, palm springs, vegas, san diego, san francisco, santa barbara, walks and eating out at 3rd street promenade, the grove, glendale galleria or beside it is americana, so many options.
