- The best weapon in chivalry 2 is and always has been the longsword. The longsword has one of the best and highest dmg stab attacks in the game, and stabs are the best attack in medieval slashers. While there are other top weapons in chivalry 2 the longsword will always be my comfort pick.

What do you think is the best weapon in chivalry 2?
I was a messer and longsword dude for a long time, but with all the new players I get waaaaay more damage output with the Dane axe. It’s fast enough that I don’t die to their weird gambles, it’s a beast in those 1vX situations, and it hits like a truck. If I was a duelist I might pick something else, but I’m much more likely to get top of the scoreboard in TO with my ol’ ax buddies
greatsword is love, greatsword is life.
and my main argument here is same as yours for the longsword: it just feels fluent in fight - has the best balance between recovery, release, range, drags and accels
I think messer is stronger for taem objectives due to boosted slash speed.
I love the battleaxe. You do so much dmg versus everyone!

I am level 300 and have been playing this game for so long, specially with the longsword. But I will admit I've never thought about the frequency between light stabs vs heavy stabs, you blown my mind with your ideas in this video.

The longsword and the war axe are the 2 sided coin of the "no real downsides" style of fighting imo. No gimmicks, no bullshit, just good fights

All the weapons have their perks and faults, but I have to agree with Stridah here. I would agree that the longsword is the ultimate weapon if I could only pick one. The simple and most profound reason is the speed. It has the range of a two-handed weapon but about the same speed as a one-handed weapon. And the slightly less damage it does per strike is more than compensated by the ability to land multiple strikes.
I think the best aspect of this weapon is it's handling speed and decent dmg makes it a cornerstone of a good weapon for both new and old players. It's fast and doesn't waste a move (decent moveset for the dmg) which makes it easy to use no matter who you fight against. It only struggles in areas that they are bested at through (if you fight at range, longer weapons win or if you fight against faster weapons you can be overwhelmed), this sword is truly the jack of all trades, master of none in it's full meaning.

I still love the Quarterstaff, even since the Nerf.
Stops basic attacks on contact & the speed you get by being able to hit with both ends is insane.

I love the longsword, I mained it as soon as I picked up the game. Recently though, I've swapped to the greatsword. I'll take more reach for a little less speed any day so I can better implement footwork and dodges. The higher damage potential on the heavies and overheads is nice too but I do miss the stabs with the longsword and find myself using muscle memory feint-to-stabs all the time

I'm with you. Longsword is my go 2 if im wanting to survive and make some kills. When I'm super in the zone I like to pull out mace or morn star cause I can gamble with those successfully when I'm on point
As a new console player I too enjoy the longsword compared to other weapons especially the messer. I just love to stab.
Speaking of being new, I'm trying to break the habit of spamming heavy attacks and feints.
I'm also curious as to what you're pressing to counter overhead feint to alt overhead @4:14 when fighting the man on fire. Alt attack on console is L3 or clicking the left stick but I'm clearly not pressing the right buttons.
I use long sword because it simply feels better than almost any other weapon. I’ve been trying out Halberd lately and it just feels clunky and awkward to me. Plus the range feels really inconsistent compared to long sword.

I can’t stay away from the raider double Dane axe, nothing beats launching an axe at someone’s face when they lower their guard 😅 but the longsword is easily my second choice

I’ve been using the longsword and I think it’s a good balance from my Archer’s secondary and a Greatsword/Dane Axe.
The Longsword is for the most part, is a dedicated sidearm. Mostly because pole arms are more forward heavy and tend to hit their targets with greater impact. Armor is mostly made to stop strikes from swords in general, unless you half sword or Murder stroke your opponent, then it’ll make a difference.

Sometimes I wonder why messer has been called out for nerfs when longsword has been kind of overlooked a long time. I agree that a messer is probably better in teamobjective filled with a lot of new players and fandoms, as the raw dps just comes through far more often, but the further up you go in skill level the utility becomes more important.
I like the longsword even though I don’t main it. But it is also a frustrating weapon to me, bc as you said it makes gambles viable and that can be a frustrating experience on the receiving end. I also think that in a 1v1 long sword beats messer, that’s why I usually switch to my trusty morningstar when playing vs long sword in a 1v1.

I love the long sword! I always get plenty kills with it. Even with the short sword!
It’s not my most fun but after getting to about level 50 it’s by far my most lethal followed by a few of the axes.
Its funny, I love the longsword for 1v1 situations but for 1vx fights I find it to be a bit too weak or something. As someone who loves to spin around like a lunatic I just can't not use the War Axe for 1vx fights. The War Axe will always be my main but the longsword falls nicely into my top 3 weapons.
For real I main the longsword and it just always felt like the best weapon I love using it so much specially perfected argon's sword with the champion tournament armor and the crown I just feels like you're the fucking king hitting everyone

I'm not a big longsword guy. I prefer higher damage weapons like the greatsword, messer, war axe, and battle axe. When I use longsword in FFA I usually get frustrated since it takes more hits to kill someone and people tend to swoop in and steal my kills when I've been working on someone.
I prefer the Messer when it comes to 2H swords, when I'm in a 1vX it helps me pull through being a bit slower than the longsword. I have to apologize though because I'm a dagger enjoyer.

As a noob the long sword is my greatest ally
long sword is King. I normally get top kills unless I am being targeted by players angry at me from killing them in prior games. It kind of boils over after about 3 games then 4th game I am fighting multiple people and some times I get away with killing multiple people as well and make them pay. I love long sword.
Ive been mixing a lot more overheads since that stab drag nerf and the crouch accel is indeed spicy.
Only thing id say is you touched on those look offs you use for a second but that is so important for the stabs on it in hectic fights. Great video 👍

That comparison to real life fighting is pretty accurate. I fight in armored combat and stabs are actually an illegal move because of the lethality of them. Granted the reason is a bit different than you explained for a video game lol but the principal is essentially the same. Longsword is probably the most lethal in chivalry, but in real combat I'd rather come up against a longsword than a pole axe of any variant. Getting hit with an axe fucking hurts even when it's a blunted weapon lol. If stabs were a legal move however it might be comparable.

I try to get guud with th longsword, I land a lot of hits but dont get kills often. Then I use halberd and it almost feels like I'm cheesing the game
