I am not a professional, but here is the interview I recorded with Michael Penn on October 30, 2020 - unedited (I talk too much - sorry). But I think it was good for an amateur.
Thanks so much for posting this interview, it's so heartening for a fan of Michael's to hear his voice again. I think you did a good job in keeping the conversation flowing for the most part, if it weren't for you I wouldn't have known to search for his recent work.
I’m here after a search of Michael Penn/No Myth. I randomly found this song AGAIN and was so glad I did - it brought back memories. I loved No Myth from the 1st listen back in 90’s. I think it’s a crime that there’s not more today from Penn - musical genius. I just wanted to clear up a few things about your belief of Christian conservatives for which I’m one. I follow Christ 1st in my life. Politics and faith aside, I recognize and appreciate great music. I am drawn to certain types of music of varying genres. Something in my brain, ears and soul picks up on sounds, tones and melodies- excuse me as I am musically ignorant. I have never played an instrument and I understand the science of music about as much as quantum physics! I am amazed and envious of those who have those type of brains. There are certain types of music that I can’t tolerate and that’s country, jazz, pop. It’s no judgement-it just sounds like noise in my ears. I just wanted to give you a perspective of someone who does not think like you politically so that you may try to understand that there are people who love the “purity” of music without judgment. I think the great modern day musicians (meaning music I’ve listened to since 60’s) are today’s geniuses = classical musicians. I wish my brain could understand how you do it, but since I can’t, I will just listen and enjoy. The Beatles have nothing on Michael Penn’s No Myth in my opinion. Thank you for the great music!
Thank you so much for conducting and posting this interview. It was well done and nicely informative...neither of which is a given with internet conversations. Cheers.
You did a GREAT job here Spencer! I'm a long time fan of Mr. Penn. I have always felt that just as a skilled blacksmith could forge an entirely unique weapon that a warrior wields into battle, Michael Penn is a wordsmith, forging beautiful and unique lyrics that step up, curl around like a cat, and take you to a place few artists are capable of building. His music has always been his own richly unique blend. I remember trying to decode the album 'Free For All' in high school, with little success. I love that album!!
Oh my goodness. This was so wonderful to see. I just downloaded A Revival the other day. Very happy to hear Michael Penn's voice...in more ways than one...once again.
Thanks for sharing your refreshingly, authentic conversation with Michael. Great job! Looking forward to hearing more of the same type of conversations in the future. BTW, is that a coonhound behind your right shoulder?

Great Song ! - I listened to it 6 times in a row, and I'm absolutely charmed - great work Michael !
When this n that came out it’s still a Awesome song
It pains me to hear one of the absolute masters of the album/LP-form of music say that it's a dead format. I mean, he's right, but it still hurts.
Wow, just stumbled upon this. Great interview! ❤
Thanks. ❤🎶🙏 Love you guys 😘🕊🎵🎸🎹❤
Still love No Myth, nice interview.
Excellent interview. Thanks Spencer!

The arc of progress bends inexorably upward.
I didn't catch what the name of the song is to which they refer?
Great interview and interesting context for the music.
Glad he's still around, and I mostly agree with all he says.
