Untrue and In Rainbows are both deserving candidates for the Top 2 of 2007 but personally, I prefer the former over the latter. Untrue is just one of the best albums ever made and it should be in the top 50 at the very least.

In your honest opinion, what do you believe should be in the best albums list of 2007? It's okay if it doesn't have to be mainstream.

my thoughts on all of these albums/the snippets i’m hearing if i haven’t heart the full album
25: sounds like some pretty good, albeit kinda standard atmospheric black metal.
24: i have honestly not heard much music that sounds like this. should check this one out, since this sounds like something i could possibly enjoy a lot
23: ive heard several albums from molina, this is not one of them. sounds much darker then what im used to from his work, i enjoy it
22: probably the world’s most tragic band ever. listening to this extremely bleak and depressing album, knowing that the people who made it aren’t alive anymore, is such a gut-wrenching feeling. please check this album out if it sounds like something you’d love, it’s incredible.
21: really good album, my only problem is, as shown in the snippet, the vocals can sound a bit goofy sometimes lol
20: i’m a big aphex twin fan, don’t know why i haven’t gotten to this one due to it being one of his most acclaimed projects under one of his aliases
19: haven’t heard this album, doesn’t really seem fully like my thing when it comes to doom metal, though
18: this shit sounds like i’m being shrink wrapped by a sheet of pure noise. and i love it, this shit rocks
17: third fav national album. alligator and sleep well beast are still better imo, as alligator’s take on post-punk revival is a bit better, and sleep well beast has some experimentation that i adore, but boxer is still rlly fantastic
16: surprised i haven’t gotten to this since im a big fan of modern classical stuff. sounds gorgeous
15: this album has some fucking amazing sampling. i do think panda bear is better with AnCo instead of just on his own, but damn, this album is great.
14: if you wanna listen to music that makes you feel nothing but happiness and hope, listen to this album. instant mood booster
13: peak folk metal. i don’t have much more to say outside of that, it’s just some fucking great folk metal
12: until recently, i didn’t know about there being a huge turkish hip hop scene. i wanna check some of it out, just bc a lot of hip hop i listen to is american, and i wanna broaden my horizons when it comes to non-english language hip hop
11: porcupine tree is very hit or miss for me, and ive always felt like this album is a miss imo, never understood the praise for it compared to like, lightbulb sun
10: i have trouble talking about this band due to their associations with some not cool people, and even trying to separate those thoughts, i just don’t fully enjoy this band’s music. whoops
9: if you wanna make me weep immediately, play any song from this album
8: depressive black metal is one of those genres that i have trouble getting into due to a lot of the subject matter being too much for me. that being said, this album is pretty fucking great and i’m glad i checked it out
7: this album is both beautiful and manic as all hell, and i adore it so much. top 3 AnCo album imo
6: this album’s highs are some of the best songs kanye has ever made, but it’s lows are 100% there and those lows are absolute dog water
5: 2 hours of some of the most devastatingly beautiful ambient pieces ever. might be my favorite ambient album ever, not sure
4: haven’t listened to this version of Mf18M before, the original performance of it by steve reich & musicians is one of my favorite classical albums of all time, though, so i’m 100% certain i’d adore this version too
3: when the 2000s indie scene peaked, in my opinion. some of my favorite songs of all time are on this album
2: i don’t think that anything captures the sound of realizing that it fucking sucks to live in an urbanized area
1: my fav radiohead album. don’t think i need to say anything more about this album bc everything about it has already been said lmao

I understand you with depressive Black metal, they are one of those genres that are difficult to hear because of the context, and even more so if you are someone sensitive to those themes (like me), it is a feeling to the most experimental music

    • @mardex47gd31
      @mardex47gd31 Před měsícem +1

heartbreaking or unpleasant due to the context: buyers market, you will never be a dancer - whitehouse, those kinds of albums that touch on strong themes and that are depressing because of how real they are

I really liked the genre variety for the charts of 2007, normally RYM charts tend to be overstocked with metal but this had a nice selection: rap, pop, classical, ambient, noise, folk, even electronic music that isn't IDM for once.

    • @NamelessInternaut

Untrue is one of the best albums ever. In Rainbows is up there for Radiohead's albums too. And God, I love that Panda Bear record. And of course Graduation went crazy
To be honest, though, despite the fact I was starting to go underground at the time, I hadn't heard of more of this list than usual lol. I was into the stuff that didn't quite make this cut like Of Montreal (Hissing Fauna is still in my top 100 albums ever) Justice, Battles, Arcade Fire and M.I.A.

glad For Emma, Forever Ago was in top 10, one of my favorite albums ever, would've loved to see it in top 5 though
also kinda disappointed with Graduation being so high, it's like the weakest of the Kanye trilogy tbh. wasn't even the best rap album of its year in comparison to the Blu album imo

The best songs on Kanye's album are the singles or the most popular, so realistically it is not as interesting or as good as the previous ones.
