I used to race Motocross back in the late 80s early 90s, there is nothing better than the sound of a balls out 2 stroke in power band. I know the 4 strokes have come a long way, however for me, it'll always be the 2 strokes.

In my 50 years of MX racing, I do believe you are the FIRST “motocrosser” I’ve ever heard refer to a bike being ON THE PIPE as being “IN THE POWERBAND”. That’s usually what the people who have no knobbies left on the rear tire from only riding it on the road and have spray painted the whole thing black say when they’re trying to sell it for 3 times what it’s actually worth… “it’s got a ‘POWERBAND’ in it !!!” You know the type…

For you guys who don't get very good starts, (hole shots). It is actually faster to not use the clutch on the up shift. Just let the gas off a bit, hit the next gear and back on the gas. I bet most modern bikes will still shift with no clutch and leaving the gas on, (which is the fastest way), but I still say that has to be harder on the transmission, and I am in no hurry to rebuild it. You can test the differences on a moist dirt road, where you can see the coasting patches between gears on the ground. The shorter the coasting patch, the longer the time that the wheel is driving forward. I know, I read the opposite in modern MXA. But I actually learned that from 1984 MXA and tested it myself, and I always got great starts. :)

I think jet fuel is so close to regular kerosene its got super low octane rating and will knock like in the intro part early in this video. A bit of retard in the timing and he would be good to go with jetting aswell :)
I have an old kerosene yamaha 20hp outboard and its got bigger jets on the kerosene side and fuel line connectors for each fuel. You warm it up and switch to kerosene when the motor is warmed up. I think its a base 25hp model modified from factory with lowered compression to be able to run both fuels.
What I would love to see him run is Low Lead 100octane flying gasoline :D

thanks to WW2, petroleum spirit (gasoline) was in very short supply here in the UK during the war years and for some time after so people experimented with alternate fuels in spark-ignition engines. one winner was paraffin (now more commonly known as aviation fuel/jet fuel). they would use some form of crude twin-tank arrangement to warm up the engine on gasoline and then switch to paraffin because paraffin won't vapourise properly at lower temperatures. the old boys talked about the engines coking up quite quickly and poor power but it worked. some farm tractor engines were specifically adapted to run on paraffin.
paraffin is a light dry fuel inbetween gasoline and diesel and should work in the bike with some 2T oil in suspension.

normal sports RC is 15% castor oil for lubrication and 5% nitromethane to help wide3n the tuning of the jet needle and 80% methanol to burn with the glow plug non nitro fuel harder to tune s the jet works with narrow band . Higher percent nitro more power and wider tuning band for jet needle. semi synthetic lubrication oil or full sytheis works with as low as 10% lubrication oil and so methanol content is higher and increases powr outputs

If you run a different fuel than the gasoline the bike is jetted for, you need to re-jet the carb. The fuel/air ratio is different for different fuels. Even though it was smoking a lot, that is just an indicator in this case, that there is a lot more oil in that mix. The bike may be running leaner, possibly detonating and may have cracked the porcelain of the spark plug, (or it is not tight), to cause all that mess on the top of the head. For the different fuel/air ratio, for example, Methanol needs almost twice the fuel compared to gas to get the correct fuel/air ratio. I don't know about the kerosene, (jet fuel). You would have to research that to find out what jetting you would need. I don't believe the bike made more power there, (your imagination probably, since you have a lot of that,--lol), but if you can jet it well for that fuel, it might be close to the performance of gas. I would guess, that with kerosene, you may not need as much 2-stroke oil, or possible none at all. Less oil will give you a richer fuel/air ratio also, and it might start burning up all that excess oil that just saturated your silencer packing. I am sorry son. But your channel is a comedy show. But I hope you don't take that as the insult I intended it to be.
Now if you want to play with nitro methane, polly propelin and some other fuel additive chemical soup factors,-------------------------------you still won't learn much.

    • @EarthSurferUSA
      @EarthSurferUSA Před 9 měsíci +2

"Less oil will give you a richer fuel/air ratio also, and it might start burning up all that excess oil that just saturated your silencer packing." Sorry, that was wrong. A richer fuel/air mix (not to be confused with the gas/oil mix), would smoke and goop more. So you probably have a huge amount of oil that is not burning. Would be nice to see what the plug looks like also after running it. That should be the first thing you do (check the plug) to get a good idea of how the engine is running.

    Just fyi
Jet fuel and kerosine are basically the same thing
Early Briggs and Stratton engines sold a kit with dual chamber gas tanks 1/2 was gas to start the engine the other 1/2 was for kerosine to run the engine (I guess kerosine was dirt cheap back then) it also came with a extra thick head gasket to lower the compression ratio to avoid detention

Jet fuel in a Kwakker .. as far as I remember just put gasoline in a triple 380, 400 or above and it was a rocket , Suzuki triples were nice too. GT 750 was especially nice :)

Can you figure out the best mixture/ ratio of regular gas and something else to make it run or sound better?

Used av gas back in the 80's racing 2 stroke road bikes. No issues at all. I think it was like 115 octane or so.

Avgas is high octane petrol for piston engines. I've run race bikes on it before. Unless you're running really high compression ratio it'll go slower because the fuel has a higher flashpoint and won't burn properly in a stock engine. Jet fuel is completely different stuff.

Aviation Gas and Jet fuel / Jet-A1 is very different fuels... Avgas is gasoline while Jet fuel is kerosene, you can run a diesel engine on kerosene perfectly fine if you add 1:200 of 2 stroke oil. I did run a Mazda 626 diesel on kerosene for 2 years.

@@neilpincus855 I was partially sponsored by Cam2 back in the day. A guy drops off a 5 gallon pail of experimental premix and says " don't leave it in the sun"!!@!. I think has nitro in it. It was never commercially available. Between avgas and that oil my Suzuki rg500 ran clean!

Hello from Greece. Try to adjust your carb to give 30% less fuel than normal gas. Diesel, including jet fuel does not burn completely, and it builds up inside and creates more compression than it can take.

JET fuels is same as kerosene, a completely different fuel then Aviation gas which is same as normal gasoline but higher octane...

@@a64738 your missing 100 AV LL is highly processed with ZERO ETHONAL meaning it's pure gas. That is 95% why I run it in every 2 stroke. It's suitable for IAC engines (not cars or anything with a catalyst converter of course) jet fuel is not meant to work in applications like this.
