    This is a cane I featured in my Millefiori book years ago! I hadn't done many of these canes since then and they just sort of popped up in my mind. I'm glad they did because they've opened up a lot of possibilities. They're very simple to make (especially if you have a clay dedicated food processor! If you don't, well, you'll be chopping clay with your blade) and I love the look of them.
    In this tutorial, you'll learn the basic slab. From that, you'll learn how to make a few simple canes including the Chevron.
    Enjoy!

    How funny! Your Little Oskar is what every mum has in their kitchen in Paris to mix herbs and chop garlic or onions. Parisian kitchens are so tiny, there’s no space for anything else so we also use it to mix dough when making a cake.
    I grew up with my mum using it (it’s called Moulinex Robot in France) and she gave me one when I went to Uni - yes! French students go to the market where food is cheaper and cook from scratch rather than eat Ramen noodles in a paquet. 😂 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Thank you!❤ I have an Oscar but it’s called “Black & Decker”!😊 I have used it for nearly 30 years, and it’s still going strong! Should you ever want to clean yours (you probably have already) I have used “FAST ORANGE-SMOOTH”, which I saw on another person’s channel (sorry do not remember who)! I ordered off Amazon. Just rub some on the inside and all around - let it sit a couple of minutes and wipe out with rag (or whatever you use) and it is pretty amazing for removing bits of clay left behind and also some of the coloring left behind!! I love your work, how you work and how you speak to us through your videos! Thanks again!!❤

I don’t comment much even though I have been watching all your videos and was thrilled that you were making these videos. Your style and the things you make are beautiful and so well done. I learn so much about the process of working with clay when I watch you. It makes me really think about how I go about my working with clay. I love how you take your time to manipulate the clay into doing what you want it to do and this video so illustrated that. It’s almost like going into meditation watching you work. It is so helpful to hear your thoughts and reasons for doing what you are doing as you are doing it. And I, too, love your spontaneous expressions and ideas. Question - how long can you let conditioned clay sit prior to doing something with it like this? And how would you warm up a cane that's been sitting for a while? (If you think you have to.)

    Hello, I have just ventured into the polymer clay fun. I needed something to do with my time, I am both disabled and retired, so I have plenty of it. I have also always been a crafter and a maker but I am not able to do most of the things I used to, (my disability is due to a stroke I had,) and the polymer clay looked like something I could do and I can! My only question is, I never seem to have enough clay in any given color to do a decent sized cane so I am wondering, when you replace a color you have run out of, how much do you buy to have on hand? I already figured out to buy bigger blocks of the white, translucent and black because you use them so much more than colors to mix and wrap for the canes. Your videos have taught me so much! Thank you!

    • @DonnaKatoArt
      @DonnaKatoArt  Před 4 měsíci

      Okay, so the amount of clay is a hard one - some people make huge canes and other make smaller - I tend to work smaller but I also tend to make simpler canes that I can easily re make. As a way to stretch some clay, you should have some translucent clay on hand. This you can add in situations where you just need a bit more than you have.Not too much, you don't want to make the colors translucent, but you can "stretch" the clay with it. Buying big blocks definitely helps. Work off of drawings so you can control your amounts, too. Always monitor your amounts, if it appears you'll run out of packing clay, for example, cut some of the cane you're working on off to reduce the amount you'll need to finish. Make sense? Hugs, D

      @DonnaKatoArt  Před rokem

      You know, with fresh clay, I would condition small-is amounts of many colors and then finely chop and mix them and I think you’d have great canes. Using scrap tends to lead to smaller bits of colors and that’s really what you usually want. I say usually because the almost white with bits of grey features pretty chunky white pieces. Make sense? 😊❤️
