    He definitely showed character in this game. Chasing and running his hearts out, and when you look again, he was the only one. Big loss for England, a great player whom had to go through rehabilitation for half of his career.

    Scholes Carrick, and Hargreaves was Sir Alex’s final piece in the midfield puzzle to win the 2008 PL and UCL double. And what a season he had. Free kick vs Arsenal, great performances vs Barcelona in the semis, vs Chelsea in the UCL final + that perfect penalty he took in the 08 final.
    And here at 7:35, Hargreaves breaks up play but how does Gary Neville not see that pass on the right hand side🙆🏻‍♂️

      If Rooney stayed on the pitch I think we would of won 1-0 maybe 2-0. England really missed Rooney when he was sent off.

      owen Hargreaves was the best player he played his heart out! Ran his ass off. He never stopped running forward and he works extremely hard defensively.

    I watched Hargreaes in his early career stop Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo. At Bayern Munich, he was very strong as a defensive midfielder. In this game, he had dual roles moving forward more through the centre as a holding player and defending the left wing against Ronaldo and did so brilliantly. HIs injuries stopped everything otherwise was on his way to be one of the best defensie midfielders

      Yes Hargreaves was excellent in this match great heart and determination great character he ran his ass off. He was all over the pitch. He was driving forward and did a great job defensively.

    United definitely missed his services against Barcelona , in this match he was just keeping some of the world best players at bay , what a grit and determination this man has People are moaning about lack of Roy keane but i think United are missing this type of player more ................and unfortunately hargreaves type of player are now far and few

    Never his biggest fan but I found new respect for him as a player, the problem was Erikksen obsession to get Hargreaves into the team at any cost playing him everywhere but his best position with the exception of this game.

    nice video and nice song choice too. i always liked hargreaves as a player and hate when a player like him with great potential has awful luck with injuries. really good performance by him, such a battler and what tremendous fitness levels! still running his guts out even in extra time

    Making this video was the first time I've seen the game over again since it happened. Back then I was quite young, and didn't fully understand how bad England played. Compared to now, it's embarrassing. A very, very bad Stoke.
    Quite a few good players, at the top of their powers in that side, but played shocking football.
    I made Rooney's game here, he played badly and got sent of because he was frustrated and starved of service.
    Hargreaves was best player on the pitch by a mile.

    I also find it funny how things were not looked at after England lost to Italy at Euro 2012. It was the most one sided 0-0 I have ever seen in my life. England literally couldn't' string 5 passes together. There's only two players of the last 10 years I would say are truly top players - Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves. Sorry Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard etc but you have only ever played in your comfort zone, never had to adapt your game and you are shown up for who you are when playing for England.

    I AM SO SO SO SO SO GLAD YOU HAVE UPLOADED THIS VIDEO.
    It needs showing to the English F.A. It's funny how Owen Hargreaves turned out to be the only player on the pitch would could pass the ball, adapt his game for England. Infact it's not funny at all. It's because he played in the German league, were they play a more diverse game of football and the players can adapt.
    While in the EPL they're taught kick and rush, something that becomes so clear when you watch England at tournaments.

  • @Ernest_Thesiger
    @Ernest_Thesiger Před 7 měsíci

    Hargreaves had a very curious England career.
    Despite clearly being a very good player for Bayern, he was terrible for about the first five years of his international career, in fact his performances in the warm-up games for the 2006 World Cup were probaby two of the worst displays anyone's ever seen from an England player.
    So he went into said World Cup in terrible form and he was a very unpopular player because nobody could understand why Sven kept picking a player who always played so badly.
    Then, to everybody's surprise, he played really well in this game and, all of a sudden, almost everybody loved him and completely forgot about those terrible five years and now most people only remember his England career with fondness.
    In fact, the award-winning football writer Martin Samuel even put him in his "Best England XI of the 21st Century"!

    watching this vid, you dont get that impressed by him. Poor passing, poor first touch and to much easy passes, they go either back to the back 4 or to the sides.
    But his work rate is pretty good, runs much and fights for the team. But people overrate him to much

    • @TheSeaksan
      @TheSeaksan Před 9 lety +8

      He is the most important player in the team. He do all the dirty work and connect the team together. His role is to provide easy passes because he is the defensive midfielder. A good one after Makelele

    The midfield options England could have had in the mid noughties were not just great for the time, but possibly the best collection of midfielders any country has ever had at one point.
    Beckham, Carrick, Scholes, Lampard, Hargreaves, Gerrard, Joe Cole.
    With Ferdinand and Campbell or Terry behind them, Ashley Cole and Gary Neville at full back, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler as forward options and David James in goal. It is an absolute travesty that England didn't win the world cup in either 2002 or 2006.
