I watched Hargreaes in his early career stop Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo. At Bayern Munich, he was very strong as a defensive midfielder. In this game, he had dual roles moving forward more through the centre as a holding player and defending the left wing against Ronaldo and did so brilliantly. HIs injuries stopped everything otherwise was on his way to be one of the best defensie midfielders

England literally couldn't' string 5 passes together. There's only two players of the last 10 years I would say are truly top players - Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves. Sorry Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard etc but you have only ever played in your comfort zone, never had to adapt your game and you are shown up for who you are when playing for England.
